Why don't they make cartoons like this anymore? What happened to good ole hand animation? Its said that a movie from 1999 with a 30 million dollar budget....is better then 2012 movies with 150 million dollar budgets...
@tthomaselli2 It actually fits in with the novels. In the original stories, Tarzan had an incredible talent for language retention as well as an ability to copy any sound he heard. Its why he could pick up English so easily despite never having heard another human being in his life, as well as his ability to actually understand his ape family.
True.; I think it's because the 1999 Disney version of 'Tarzan' was the only one I ever really saw & I never picked that up/saw anything like that/etc. in any of the other versions because I never saw 'em.
@tthomaselli2 In the novels, he eventually ended up learning English, the Great Ape language, ancient Mayan, French, Spanish, German, basically every modern spoken language, as well as a few dead ones.
I miss the old Disney movies. where there were actually some intense moments, moments that actually got you thinking. But that was when I was a child, yet our children, our future, are watching horrible excuses for.... matter to say the least. Whatever happened to Aladdin, Quasimodo, and most certainly Tarzan? Looks like they've been replaced with... I haven't seen any Disney movies recently, not really worth anyone time. R.I.P Disney.
@Avidonna ohh, well ecuse me, would you like to see him get back up the last 10sec of the movie with just some bruises and scrapes? because that's how disney make their movies today. I mean, Disney was well known for making children even adults cry in some sad moments. now that never happens. what is wrong with you Disneyfucks?
@khfanboy666 Which is kind of why I liked Aladdin and Mulan. In both situations, the heroes are outmatched in some way, and have to resort to their wits to defeat the villain.
Jafar was clearly a powerful sorcerer, and compared to the younger and more physically fit Al, he was able to gain the upper hand.
Meanwhile you've got a petite young woman vs. a huge brawny man, a hun no less, who is seriously pissed off and aiming to kill her with a sword.
@NicholasGeschke it works this way cause tarzans challenge came from his growing up in the jungle, clayton is just there to show how tarzans work has paid off he is a stronger and yet still more civilised man than a "real man", hes beaten leopards and all other creatures, hes trained himself so well that a man with a gun isnt really a challenge, clayton used his feeling for jane against him as a way to win but in the jungle, in battle, tarzan is supreme.
also i thought most of the time when i was a kid i though that his machettie went into his back but then i saw it on disney channel and noticed that the sowrd whatever got stabd into the ground and clayton was hung way up in the trees now i notice one of the most terrefying things disney shows us on camera the shadow!
@NintendoMaster098 Also could be a good way of evening out the fight. Having a gun against a guy with bare hands is pretty unfair, and I imagine that (from his attempts to warn Clayton) that Tarzan did not want to kill the guy. He's not a sadistic scumbag.
@MusicallyRetardedKid What I'm saying is that Clayton is a coward because he is using a gun when Tarzan has only his hands. I mean obviously you are going to use a gun if you have one and the enemy has one. However it is harder to kill a man if you look him straight in the eye than it is if you're sniping from a long distance.
With his shotgun he had the advantage. Increased range and he's obviously at the very least a fair marksman. But then he decided to follow Tarzan into the trees. His turf, giving Tarzan the oportunity to use his greater knowledge of the forest to conceal himself until he could attack and disarm Clayton. Futhermore Clayton underestimated him and obviously thought of him as just another animal to prey upon. Clayton fought brutally but Tarzan fought smart
Well, Tarzan ran up into the trees, where it's crowded and dense, so Clayton wouldn't have been able to aim as well. So, he decided to climb up after him.
@pinheadman665 But Tarzan would have barely been able to do anything to Clayton up there without giving away his position. No. Clayton was much better off on the ground.
@pinheadman665 Clayton would have still had the advantage. Remember how lost and vulnerable Tarzan was on that steel ship? Following him into the trees was just not a smart descision on Claytons part.
Look at my previous comment again. That's pretty much my belief for why Clayton went up after Tarzan. If he didn't, then Tarzan would have come back and repeated the strategy he had used earlier to free the gorillas.
disney used to be so awsome. no in todays society where our freakin parents try to over protect us disney had to dial it back so much. i prefer this kind of stuff. so much better. but at leas they still keep theri family values and a really escent story line through and through. and the songs. always epic.
@RebirthOfPhoneix Disney films always have brutal deaths, but its mostly offscreen the rest is left to the imagination - this is proof that disney is fucked-up.
Clayton is voiced by none other than Brian Blessed.
Their fight is meant to be symbolic of Tarzan's humanity, and Clayton's uncontrolled rage. He keeps cutting the vines even when Tarzan tries to warn him not to.
From above, the wicked receive their just rewards.
So for some reason in all 16 years of my life I have never noticed the Clayton shadow until I read an article on cracked and I had to look up the scene for myself. I always watched the knife as it fell down instead of looking behind Tarzan! WOW I'm dumb! lol
Clayton was the classic British, aristocratic villain. That accent, that appearance and that death scene. Easily one of the most memorable Disney villains out there.
No wonder he was the very first Disney Villain Sora faced in Kingdom Hearts.
I wish their fight was longer, and why is that a guy that can lift up a jaguar and put a gorilla in a chokehold has trouble dealing with some slightly tough human?
@pic74 If you want to be technical, Clayton did shoot him in the arm. Even a graze like that is extremely painful and can limit even the strongest of us.
Not to mention, for a guy his size - Clayton is pretty nimble.
Though - I agree with you there. Fight should have been longer. Could add a few more punches and grappling.
yeah....this used to freak me out when i was little. i actually had a pretty good understanding of death at a young age -_-
but now i'm left wondering.... did the just LEAVE his hanging corpse there? if they did that's just sick! even if he was evil he still deserves a proper burial.
did you spot his shadow when the lighting flashed? did you see the silhouette of Clayton's dead body? 'Cause i did, and I'm never gonna get to sleep to night.
Is it just me, or is there too much lightning in this scene
