I personally enjoyed both games equally in different ways, they both have their pros and cons, and they're both different from each other. I really don't understand why this game gets such a bad rep, this game is incredible.

You haven't played the ToS games? Well, to put it bluntly, yes, God yes, play the first one. For fuck's sake, play the first one!
The second one? ONLY play it if you DIDN'T think Kingdom Hearts had the stupidest concept of a video game ever. ToS2/DotNW was a glorified fan fiction, and if you ask me, terrible. (But then again I also hate around 95% of JRPGs, so...)

Then again, I always didn't like sequels as much as the original for example like Tales of Destiny and Tales of Destiny 2. Why has the Tales series been following Square-Enix lately? ToD2 had the guy with a Sora-esque outfit, TotW:RM had the guy who looked suspiciously like Sephiroth (this coming from someone who hates FF7) and one of the games had an FF-ish opening sequence.
@DrolKeegEht ...Hmm, well they have always been rivals because both are top in the RPG series. Think about it, FF has started to put gameplay that is real time in the newer games. This has happened to Tales Of as well but I gotta say that Tales Of games are still going to win in this compitition.
@Hanzo365 the Tales series is really fun and awesome, especially since there are a lot of main titles that you can try (although most of them are Japan only).
@TylightDark Symphonia, Vesperia and Abyss. Vesperia is highly regarded as the best tales game aside from Symphonia now adays, with Symphonia Vesperia and Abyss being Tales' best games according to most fans.
Indeed you should play both, Tales of Symphonia 2 it's far epic when you have played ToS 1. People say that ToS 1 is much better than the sequel but i dissagree , i really loved this game, it's in my top 5 RpGs I ever played in my 22 years of life...
@Hanzo365 yes, YES. After beating the first ToS game, I was hooked to the entire Tales of the World series. The game is pure epic, but the series is even better! What are you waiting for?! Just buy it!

It's been active time at most with the exception of Dissidia, technically.
The Active Time Battle System is still MNC (Menu Navigation "Combat"), it just tries to pretend it isn't.

Symphonia and Abyss are said to be the best. I, personally, started with Dawn of the New World.
