I enjoy seeing the noter used as well, to see and hear the traditional side as well as some of the more intricate things people do. I'm a wee beginner on the Dulcimer but the noter gave me the idea to use a bottle neck slide on it. One night I was picking out Steve Howe's lap steel parts in the middle of 'The Gates of Delerium' - kind of eerie on the dulcimer!
It is a noter. A stick really... You press down on the 1st string and slide to the fret. You can take a wooden chop stick and cut it in two... it works fine.
Me too man, this is the instrument with the sound i have searched for a long time :). really its not the same to hear a guitar, this instrument sounds amazing :D. Just dont know how to get one of these live in denmark tough :(.
It is a wooden dowl made especially for the dulcimer that I got in a folk instrument shop many years ago. However, I have met some great dulcimer players who use a plain wooden match stick.
I wanted to thank you for the sweet reminder of my past. I was raised in Knox. tN and lived close to thesmokies. I miss that sweet melody of the harpsacord. I haven't heard one played in years. Your video mae me very happy and a bit nostalgic. Thanks for the blast from the past. I know that the old saying you can never go home again is true but I always hope tha tsome day I will return to the smokies and hear that instrumet again.
great, like the noter...i started off using a noter but then changed...but after watching a bunch of Jean Ritchie video's I am using the noter more and more.....
I love it! Dave Para and Cathy Barton do an old-timey version of this tune with a different melody and changes, plus it's faster like your version. It's a great energy for this song - full of jubilation, as it should be. Nice job!
THANKS GREAT ED

@morroti There's a company in UK called The Really Useful Music Company who do cheap Appalachian dulcimers and can probably post to Europe.

beautiful.
may i suggest another tune that I have tried on the mt. dulcimer, a hymn that sounds beautiful.
The hymn is "On Jordan's Stormy Banks".

Nice job; what is the object you are using to slide on the string/s?

I hope it never gets struck the wrong way and light up the dulcimer's lacquer! But it worked for Hendrix... LOL
