  • @bokchoih He said one man "band" - the joke would have fallen flat had he said "one woman band", cos that's not a thing (don't blame me! I don't make the rules). Everyone knows what a one man band is.

  • @sabreean Hehehe "heaping"

  • And to think I've been wondering why I keep getting Frou Frou and Imogen Heap mixed up when I hear one of them on my iPod. Great heaping DUH.

  • when she preforms live, i prefer her to do stuff like she does in "just for now" over this

  • She is like a relic from another time, when musicians/performers were kooky, flashy, and flamboyant, BUT they also had tremendous talent to back it up; in fact, they had more talent than showiness. The majority of performers today are quite the opposite--all show, all persona, very little talent and almost no originality, certainly none of their own.

I remember when I saw her in her outfit at the Grammys with the leaves in her hair I wanted to smack her; then I heard her music and it all fit.

  • she's a complete artist...

  • Whats the difference between frou frou and imogen heap?

  • @elvisnikki Frou Frou is Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworth. Imogen Heap is her solo work. Frou Frou put out one album. Imogen has put out 3 so far.

  • @nargus87 thanks! (not op)

  • amazing artist!! she does her own music and everything live!

  • this si fucking awesome im gnona fuckin go do a backflip now what th eufck

  • Aww. I love this song :)

  • who is frou frou ?

  • the best part of this is Paul Schaeffer didn't play on it.

  • She's beautiful in every aspect

  • she sounds like she might have a bit of a cold. shes fantastic regardless.

  • i always thought she sounded kind of nervous here, but i still love it. even if she IS nervous, she's still amazing!

  • I'm impressed that she is able to perform her music live, when the best work is in the studio. What a unique talent she is.

  • poor her she seems so nervous i totally understand, great performance nonetheless

  • Fucking love her and this song. <3

  • Oof... I would not be able to do that on tv. GO IMOGEN HEAP! She does sound different though and I think I like it more when she has all the music instead of just the portable stuff..?

  • even if its the same song in the music video and alive... she makes it special :) and different. shes great <3

    thanks for the video :D

  • I think it's great that her songs sound so different live. She's one of the only artists I know who've never lip synced at least one performance.

  • She is beautiful!!

  • everybody talks shit bout this performance and i think it buries the album's version. When she says the first chorus's "its bad enough we get along so we-e-ell" so f k n beautiful, sounds like shes hurt and begging or pleading or something, so awesome

  • i agree with you she sounds so much better live , and she sounds good with out editing her voice.

  • Wow! i'm such a loser...i've never heard imongen heap's music, but someone told me to listen to this and its amazing! im gonna go and listen to more of her songs now :D

  • i really like her..but she had troubles with intonation here :( anyway beautifull song

  • Wow, David letterman is 73.5 " without shoes and, Imogen Heap is nose to nose with him in her bare feet.

  • Thought i was the only one who noticed.

  • 2:48 is incredible

  • I love how Imogen doesn't use backing tracks. She is real!

  • you are the number one of my heart with this song!

  • Imogen Heap's voice is lovely.

  • Yes...this is probably one of Imogen's weaker performances. But this was her first live appearance in the U.S. ever so she have been nervous. Also, this was probably before she started touring full on so she probably wasn't as used to her equipment and stuff like she is now! This is still very good nonetheless. Everyone gets nervous!

  • genius. Just a girl, a keyboard, a laptop, a harpbox (?) and fairy dust magic of DOING IT.

  • the "harpbox" is actually an array mbira.

It confused me for awhile before I realized what it is.

  • @commonalien the 'harpbox' is called an mbira. :)

  • She's beautiiiifuuullll. She's on primetime television, it's definitely nervewracking.

  • I can hear the nerves in her voice. But she's so cute and that set up is rad. I'd be scared to be up there alone, like a solo puppet show.

  • I saw her perform live on Jay Leno and Ellen shortly after this, and all traces of nerves were gone. She was absolutely stunning! her mbira playing was flawless, her voice was solid, there was nothing shaky about her, period. All that, and she was taller than Jay Leno in her bare feet!! :D

  • bet she could kick his ass...

  • I know I would be nervous as hell singing on a national television show.

Btw is it possible to watch her performance on Ellen online? I can't find it anywhere.

  • When I watched this video two years ago, I thought she performed perfectly, I never even took into consideration how "nervous" she was.

Now I see people noting her shakiness and such and I look at it now, her performance is actually tainted with these remarks. Hm.. how the effect of people's opinions can impact one's own is kind of ridiculous.

I can list a lot of factors to why she performed this way but that should be obvious. She's got guts and talent like no other.

  • wow! that is a song in the mac os x leopard ad, and she uses a macbook pro! hehe! LOL!

  • It's lovely. Because she is nervous. That makes her a live person. Someone who just emerged off her bedroom and communicates her feelings raw.

  • OMG, alot of you will probably put thumbs downs on this, but believe me, i love imogen heap! but in here she sound terrible. =[ in her vid it sound alot better. this is the first song she sing that sound really bad...

  • I absolutely LOVE her outfit!

i especially like her hair and that butterfly on her cheeck =]

  • I just love Imogen Heap. She's so unique, nothing like anything else. She's so beautiful in so many ways.

  • Obviously she's going to be a little bit freaked, nervous, she's performing in front of millions of people. You can't judge her by this performance. Take a look at her Goodnight & Go, when it's not live, i find it, like.. amazing.

  • She starts out a little shaky, but she gets a little better. HEr album cover resembles Regina Spektor's new cover, but don't flip out, I think that they're completely different.

  • i's adorable the way she dances

  • hey her voice just reminded me of tori amos! hehe good ole imogen

  • her voice is nothing like tori amos

  • haha ur a loser.

  • Hey, it's a compliment to make comparisons; but I'm going to give hollandhoney the slighter edge as Imogen's voice is too unique to relate to any other! But yeah, Tori Amos and Imogen Heap have been compared lots of times as they are both successful musicians, so I give you kudos on that note.

  • she has a very unique style

  • 0:18, gah I can feel the nervousity! Argh!

  • "we'd be good, we great!!!!" that part kinda sucked:[

    the rest was awesome

  • she said wed be good wed be great...

    hoe is that sucky?

  • The singing. She was obviously nervous. Go listen to more recent live stuff and she's amazing. Hell, she's amazing in this performance.

  • she is so unique.

    and so talented.

    i love her.

    true talent.

  • good! She is talented

  • she is amazing .

  • Talented...

  • I looked it up.......the instrument to her left that she turns to play is called an "Array Mbira", and you pluck little metal prongs to produce a pretty 'ping' bell-like tone........my GOD, do you guys realize how many things she's trying to keep track of??..........a SPECTACULAR performance.........

  • wow shes so talented

  • skipping beats-AH!

  • She is nervous.

  • She is the most unique female musician I have ever seen. It's remarkable how she writes, composes and performs all of her songs herself. Multi-talented, pretty, charming, intelligent...she's got it all.

  • i do not like david letterman at all. he interrupts way too much......

  • Imogen heap is a GENIUS!! She is extremely talented and it's so amazing the way in which she can sing so beautifully..LOVE YA IMOGEN

  • yeah.. she's the love of my life.

  • i love you imogen marry me!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • u think shes gd live? :-S

  • God i love loop machines.

  • She really is relly brilliant. She does ALL her own programming and whatnot. It's too bad Frou Frou didn't work out. But what do I know, being from NJ.

  • She also re-mortgaged her flat to produce Speak For Yourself.

And Frou Frou was also wonderful. Who knows, maybe there will be a Frou Frou reunion someday.

  • there are rumours, so we can only pray! I REALLY love Frou Frou, and I can guarantee it would do well.

  • Weren't the rumours proven false?

  • Such an amazing artist. She's so unique in her tastes, vocal abilities, and choice of instrumentation. This is a most unique individual right here. I wish people would get over their addictions to mainstream garbage and just give her a chance. Wonderful, just wonderful. And I too am an American.

  • WELL SAID!!

  • She sounds ****GREAT**** when singing live, unlike many other synth artists.

A sign of a true talent that she is.

The dumbass American public have no clue who she is (I am an American, to be fair)

  • LOL, I'm american and I know exactly who she is.

But your right the general public prolly has no idea who she is.

  • i really do like this live. I love when she puts the "omph" in the line "flicking through the TV." the lalala part is great too.

  • wow performing live is quite a chore for her. well she's awesome so she can pull it off =D

  • Imogen; you make my day!

  • I LOVE HER! she's so awesome! <3

  • Aww! She really does seem quite nervous...I loooove her. =\

  • she shud hav ppl helping her wit da keys shes doing all by herself.

  • aww...why did she have to pick this song ...poor her...god she's hot to be so nervouse on tv... :'(, she r so good!

  • she's does it all solo! that's why she's so neat =3

  • got* :D

  • Wow, that was really nice! She does everything herself? Wow. Hehe.

  • She seems so nervous compaired to all of her other live stuff. ><

  • I know!! I saw her live in la, she was soooo much better!!! ^o^ (*she's good here too; but she's INCREDIBLE live!! ^O^*)

  • wow...that honestly wasnt too good

  • i love her music..its so

  • her dancing is cute :P

  • i love her voice!!

  • she needs a new look and ensemble, i know it's unique but i for one am not ready for it.

  • she's using a finger/baby piano.

    which is really creative !

  • this is awesome.

sure she's not doing much but that's because she has a bit going on.

  • She isn't particularly awesome live, I've noticed. Her breathing is a bit distracting towards the beginning and she lacks a lot of the harmony and rhythm that makes the recorded version so appealing. It also seems like she's trying a bit too hard to be entertaining or something with all the hand motions and dancing... But she definetely gets a lot better as she goes on.

  • she's really good for doing that by herself, she doesn't have a silent muffler to kind of break down the long breathes inbetween, but she's got a pretty good hang of it... especially for playing the piano at the same time and effects o0

  • I get to see her live tomorrow night, in Birmingham, uk. Can't wait :D

  • she's awesome

  • awwwwwwwww <3

  • How dare you say shes not great live I think she's perfect doing it all alone I mean you wouldn't want all the drama from those tacky band members!!

  • I realy think she needs more people in her band. She has no background, just voice. But still, Go Imogen Heap!

  • That's her thing, she can manage a band w/o the other people. So...she doesn't really need them then, ya know?

  • personaly thats one thing i love about it :) just wonted go give a different opinion

  • Love the song, but she's not that great live.

  • yes yes I agree.. The first time I watched this on tv I was like "dude.. that sucked" lol

  • It's her debut on network television. I'm guessing that she was probably incredibly nervous. She's a little shaky at the start, but in the second half she's fabulous.

  • personaly i think a bit live sound, live singing to it and seaing her work whit it makes it sound better and (looks good to)then the normal video cd version. :) Just wonted to give a different opinion

  • this is freakin awesome

  • i love her!

  • So Lovely. <3

  • can anyone tell me what instrument that is on her left?? thank you

  • It's a mbira. I believe someone made hers for her. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mbira

  • a harp!?

  • The instrument is called an mbira.

  • i love imogen heap! the most unique voice i've heard. i love it.

  • I wish she did Hide & Seek, that song sounds so amazing live...

And is it just me or does she sound a bit nervous through about the first half of the song?

  • Nah, I think she sounds nervous too. It is her first appearance on network television. I'd be nervous too.

I used to have a vid of her doing H&S on Carson Daly, but it got scratched cause of copyright infringement.

  • bummer that it got scratched. I'll have to find it somehow :\

  • She's a bit shaky, could be nerves.

  • Wow she is incredibly talented.. What a voice..

  • I really like the song but i dont really like it when shes says "Cute-A" it just kinda ruins the flow of the song a little.. i guess how to describe it ...sorry if that offends anyone... Great song though!!<3

  • heh, kinda replying to you on this a bit late :\

I know what you mean by the "cute-a" thing. But it's really hard to have a flowing song and have words that end in such distinct consenents. Not only does it make it sound staccato and "un-flowing" it's just plain hard to do sometimes, especially when your as winded as Imogen, switching to different instruments and such XP

  • my goodness! she's multi talented isnt she!! love her songs, it feels different

  • Imogen Heap is great!!! :D

  • indeed!

    she's awesome!

  • This is amazing!

Imogen Heap never fails to surprise me.

    =)
