The entire country cares. The Rose Bowl is almost considered a compensation bowl in the NCAA.

For a team that goes to the National Championship every year, probably.
But Cal has never been to a BCS bowl. Plus, the Rose Bowl is more traditional than these newfangled bowls like the Tostitos Bowl and what-not. More prestige ftw!
