  • The original Team Fortress was amazing.

  • the intro is just so awesome!... but after 1:08; there's no longer anything that interesting :(

  • this brings back memories

  • During a panel at A-Kon in Dallas, John Carmack stated that they almost got into legal trouble due to the screaming in this song. Supposedly, there was a stipulation from Trent's record label that he wasn't allowed to use his voice for any of the songs in the game. Rumor is that Trent just claimed it was someone else who did the screaming.

  • I can't believe how great this is for 1996. No Pro-Tools, fruityloops, or anything even that advanced for general consumers.

  • The Quake symbol... Has a Nine Inch Nail.

    :O

  • Quake and Unreal Tournament were what I picked up on FPS's. I started at 5 and i've been in love ever since.

  • @DoctorConspiracy old FPS are way more badass. all old games have more of an evil feeling that you dont find in most new games.

  • @2112mbell

Newer games are tying to adopt the sleeker approach of the C21st.

Darker more 'evil' games will come back into fashion at some point and besides, there's been a few exceptions?

  • *Pissing on disks with halo/call of duty*

  • Quake is legendary game. And Reznor`s music is the best.

  • Descent 2 had an awesome sound track as well.

  • my first voodoo card was by 3dfx a 16 meg add on card that used render to assimulate the effects that changed the game field forever oh yeah i had a blast wi9th doom doom2 and the with the my best friend developing 8 deathmatch lvls for you all too enjoy in doom2 we went bazzerk for Q1 nd Q2

  • i was 7 when quake 1.01 was released, i played it throughout my childhood. a game this atmospheric, mysterious and difficult (to a 9 year old trying to play on nightmare mode) could only ever have been a huge part of my conciousness. i have nothing but respect and admiration for the game to this day. thankyou Lovecraft, Romero, McGee, Carmack and of course, Reznor.

  • This soundtrack is EXACTLY like a schizophrenic patient being tied to a rail cart, eyelids stapled to forehead, accelerating into a pitch-black tunnel.

Treatment begins as the medication kicks in, the cart's headlights turn on, and the patient enters his own subconscious at breakneck speeds, revealing the horrors, the walls, the cells, the atrocities and the fear that limits human perception.

At the end, the cart stops, the patient is cured. But he still hears the screams.

  • @badpeq wat

  • @badpeq Jesus, that is a great way of describing it!

  • rushes to his storage cabnet and eagerly pulls out his quake box which has been sitting there for well over 10 years. opens it up to discover.. no disc in the box..

  • @bendybruce NOOOOOO

  • @badpeq holy shit I found it!!! :O)

  • Rocket jump!

  • goose bumps

  • Industrial music is awesome. :)

  • fuck MW3 and bullshit for retards

  • THe 90s, with UT and Quake, where for elite veteran gamers. Nowadays games are dominated by noobs.

  • @TehScag The truth has been spoken.

  • @TehScag :( It is true

  • f** yeah!

  • this is why my generation is

  • This soundtrack was recorded in the mortuary of a funeral home in New Orleans, aka Nothing Studios. The tracks are, for lack of a better explanation, haunted.

  • who remembers owning a voodoo (II) graphics card :D

  • @reaper7777777 I still own a voodoo <3 don't use it tho lol

  • @reaper7777777

haha man i remember getting the first vodoo that came out. it was literally mindblowing. This game was sooooo addictive. Good memories.

  • @reaper7777777 Is it hackable to support 65536x65536 textures instead of 256x256?

  • @SiPlusTV

Funny I did the math for the recently and discovered 16646655 different combinations

  • I think I'm listening to the first minute... 100th time.

  • @reaper7777777 Actually... I still have one. Sitting right next to my original Gravis Ultrasound card... Those were the days... :)

  • @reaper7777777 I have quake on my cellphone and I'm just amazed. god I love this game.

  • @reaper7777777 True story, I convinced my parents to get a better PC just so that I could play Quake 1 xD I did the very samething when Quake 2 came out. Both times I said I need a better pc to get higher scores In school :P

  • @theGaminggrounds Haha nice one man

  • @TylerSurvivors Thx =) I got great parents ^_^ the best a son could have actually.

  • @reaper7777777 JEA !!!!! :D

  • @reaper7777777 man, I remember having it when playing turok 2 too... what a bunch of good games! miss the previous generation....

  • @reaper7777777 Still got mine. I'm thinking of building anohter Retro rig (One I have isnt too well ATM lol)

  • "Evil smile with grinding teeth, with blood lust in eyes"

  • @sjcobra84 thats doom

  • @ackar18 They both give me those feelings. Hur Hur Hur

  • Best game ever, wish they would make a new one as good as this one was

  • carmack & reznor are the best! thank u boys, u re waste my time for future. i love u

  • When I first played Quake, I always had the Warcraft 2 disc in my CD drive. So instead of playing this...it played one of the War2 tracks. Which actually worked surprisingly well, considering the menu demo level had a heavy medieval theme.

  • is it me or dose the modern warfare series rip of the intro of this song and use it for the us army start up music.i don't know but something tells my that modern warfare has been coping this classic fps, and i cold not blame them because this song is kick ass.On top of that thair are even some missions that look like quake in modern warfare.

  • @Minecraftpluse Actually, it reminded me of Battlefield 3's "soundtrack" from the trailer.

  • @bgpivoter what? BF3? boy u crazy!

  • @shadow5041 hans zimmer did work in the bf3 sound track

  • @shadow5041 Why does mentioning a modern shitty game automatically makes me a "crazy boy" as in some retarded Xbox kid? All I wanted to say is that it sounds like someone ripped off the main riff of this soundtrack and made that annoying-ass ear-raping piece of shit sound that plays in the end of every BF3 trailer.

  • 1337th like :<

  • NIN FTW

  • This music is burned into my brain

  • I don't remember there being a soundtrack to Quake. This is awesome!

  • those were the times!

  • Omg, fight people I'll get you candy. :)

  • Since today you can finally buy it officially in German stores :D Great day :)

  • I feel like the only major popular titles were from 1992-2001 Wolfenstein doom 1 and 2 Quake 1 and 2 and 3 Duke Nukem 3D Half-Life Unreal tournament System Shock 1 and 2 Deus Ex Goldeneye 007 Perfect Dark Serious Sam TFE Halo: Combat Evolved (I know Halo 2 and 3 were great, but obviously this one was the best)
  • @roboguy75 Don't forget Painkiller. But that was 2004.

  • @badpeq I guess I could extend it to 2007, so I could include it, along with half-life 2, portal, tf2, halo 2, halo 3, bioshock, call of duty 4, and a few others

  • @roboguy75 GOD NO! you're stretching into the era of "fastfood" shooters, franchising sequels for military fanboys!

The good old days of ultra-shooters and killfests were the golden age. Good times.

  • i still play this on my N64...

  • forgot 1998 (unreal) that was a master piece too =)

  • 0:00-1:08 - awesomeness.

    1:08-5:07 - wasted CD space.

  • @SiPlusTV According to John Romero, Trent didn't spend a lot of time making the soundtrack to the game. I suppose that's why it's so heavy on looping/ambient stuff.

  • @chromeblack It's why it's so good, it's meant to be ambient. It's a personal thing but I've never understood wanting to listen to music while playing this time of game. I want to get immersed in a game, listening to music takes that away. I'd rather have this (Quake) type of background sound to bring in the atmosphere while I play, like the Amnesia game does. Especially for shooters when I'm listening for enemies on my 5.1 sound. I'd play some MP3s if I wanted music.

  • One of the few games where I left the background sound/music on. Every other game I turn it off so I can hear the enemies over some stupid music, but his was so atmospheric and blended in with the game it sounded more like the sounds of the world I was in.

  • Not only did this game spawn the best multiplayer experience of my life (QWTF), it also inspired my favorite game of all time, Half-Life 1.

  • 1:08 - Best part

  • Quake 1 has always scared the shit out of me....

  • just EPIC.

    nice game and legend..

  • 1995 and1996=Golden age of FPS!

  • @MrMedia34 1997-goldeneye 007 1998-Half-life and System Shock 2, 2000- Deus Ex, etc.

  • @MrMedia34 What about 1997-2000? Counter-Strike 1.0-1.5 and HALF-LIFE :D

  • @somethinggoeshere1 Don't forget Blood, UT, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark and Q3A. :3

Really, the late nineties seem to have been kind to all genres. On the fighting side, we got the Last Blade, Street Fighter III, Garou: Mark of the Wolves...

  • @Lioyd1rving What about strategy? Age of Empires II :3

  • @MrMedia34 What about 1998's Half-Life? D:

  • @MrMedia34 1994 to 1999 (Doom, Quake, Unreal tournament and Half life)

  • @jarkanciofan one fucking good game after another

  • @jarkanciofan How could you forget about the Duke Nukem 3D??????????????????

  • @jarkanciofan No Duke Nukem? :(

  • @jarkanciofan you forgot Rise of the Triad and Blake Stone

  • @MrMedia34 That would be the whole of the 90's. Wolf 3D - Unreal Tournament.

  • @MrMedia34 more like diamond age

  • @MrMedia34 and we're still retexturing

  • @MrMedia34 1991-1999 golden age of fps

  • @ackar18 Sure was

  • @MrMedia34 Half Life wasn't released till 1998

  • @MrMedia34 Personally I think it should extent to 1998 - I liked Half Life a lot too. Actually, I like it more than Quake.

But Quake was great, it was revolutionary (first fully 3D graphics engine), and it had a better soundtrack. Trent Reznor KICKS. ASS.

  • this is how i started listening to nin at the tender age of 11

  • I feel sorry for all those gamers that never had the chance to play Quake when it 1st came out and for about 12 months afterwards. The best Id game ever.

  • Wow, this brings back memories :) I remember finally getting a Pentium computer with a floating point processor capable of running Quake... and the game launching for the fist time, playing the demo with this AWESOME song, playing from the CD... I almost crapped my pants in excitement :)

  • I never did really like this theme. It is still very nice work none the less.

  • creepiest part is when the screaming finally fades away and all you get is the creepy ambient noises...

  • i miss the cthulu atmosphere behind the first few quake games

  • remember being kid playing this like duke

  • I have never played quake I have tried to to do it so long now :(

  • @Barderaker

Check my response :), theres plenty of ppl still playing Quake1 (Quakeworld)

  • @mektashari I am still trying to find the game but it's really hard these days xD

  • @Barderaker I believe you can get it through steam. But I'd personally just get it through ebay, been meaning to buy it for a long time and counting, now. ;)

  • @AdrianGrave I didn't think off that thanks for the help :)

  • This track was always the most boss to frag fuckin zombies to!

  • I used to play this game when i was little, i had almost forgotten how this sounded

  • This years marks 15 years of Quake, I wonder what they'll do for the 20th year in 2016.

  • those scrams from 0:54 really sound like somebody is dying by getting impaled or something omg hectic

  • @baraka4100 Thats Trent Reznor's Job.

  • @WindKun he is a freaking genuis

  • Kool. Trent's done a lot of side stuff.

  • I can't believe I never played Quake1!! :( NIN soundtrack!!! ID used to be so badass... Now I wouldn't be surprised if they get Justin Bieber for Doom4... actually that would be pretty scary.

  • The screaming in the background just freezes your blood ice-cold. Excellent !

  • I didnt have a pc when Quake I and II came out but I bought the games for when I would but the main reason was so I could listen to the soundtracks cos they blew me away and still do. ID, get Trent on Doom 4 for the love of all that is unholy and dripping with filth! ID plus Trent = GOLD :D

  • Thumbs up if you remember buying the quake demo cd, then popping an floppy disk in the A: drive with a hack to unlock it to full version because it was on the cd anyways =) now thats old skool.

  • Trent Reznor. 9 Inch Nails i wanna say?

  • Dubstep, a genre of music almost 15 years too late to rip off Trent Reznor.

  • I love playing this music while playing quakelive

  • John camarck is a demigod

  • 18 haters are gona taste the wrath of my super nail gun

  • remake Quake!

  • @baydood510 How about no.

  • @Metal404Head

    Actually...

    yes.

Its ID`s next project once DooM 4 is finished either this year or early next. A true Quake reboot (not the idiotic strog storyline in Q2&4) according to carmack when speaking to eurogamer & Quakecon this year.

  • @locutus12 Unless it's a cut for cut reboot with nothing changed, then no.

  • @locutus12 had goosebumps when was reading "quake reboot" in your post. Its not about a game, a franchise, hekk, quake was a childhood toy for many of us. Q1 was one of the first games using CD audio for improved immersion, remember playing a ripped version first, then tried with original copy, it was... exceptional feeling in an age when the devs started to change from midi to CD audio. I just hope ID wont follow the trends and wont make a native console version then port it to PC.

  • Comment removed

  • @baydood510 after doom 4 its supposedly next in line for an outing using ID`s TECH5 engine according to carmack himself. Expect it around 2013/2014 unless they are already laying the ground work.

  • Never played quake, but this is pretty badass

  • You got the Quad Damage!

  • You know you are retro, when you play quake without a mouse. (keyboard only)

  • A fitting song for an evil invasion. Methinks.

  • YOU PICKED UP THE NAILS.

  • why did they change quake from horror to action, i liked the 1st one the best then they started wrecking it

  • @baraka4100 I know that feel brah. From taking on demons in complex maps with your heart racing and running out of ammo, to LOL I FRAG U NOOB.

  • @Metal404Head YEAH!!

  • @baraka4100 It's too bad. There's just something about feeling slightly scared out of your mind taking on these strange monsters. You know your going to die, fall into a pit of lava, get nailed by an ogre, but you just keep pressing on. not giving a single fuck.

Then you complete all four episodes just to find that all the runes you gathered ARENT FUCKING THERE.

    All of my rage.

  • @baraka4100 Romero left, he was the one obsessed with the occult

  • @baraka4100 basically every game series did that cuz they didnt have much of an audiance, realy the only people were more horror based or "demented players", as some would say, so they switched it up to make it better, Gears of War, did it, Halo toned the scariness of the Flood down.. so yea

  • i meant to put better iin quotes, so "better"

  • @baraka4100 They used Quake for the second game because the name they were going to use was already copyrighted, and they couldn't find another suitable title.

  • @baraka4100

Quake 1 was horror when you think about it. Maybe not nowadays that we take the mouse for granted, and run mode is always on. But back then we looked at this stuff differently. Hell listen to any other song in quake 1, they're all horror

  • SO FUCKIN SCARY......ITS AWESOME

  • I have a Nine-Inch-Nailgun and I'm not afraid to use it!

  • Mua haha

  • Quake 4 Used this song as the main menu theme :)

  • fuckk yeahhhh

  • I didn´t know this information *-*. I have played only Quake II but I thought that this games was without music .Incredible!!!!!!!!

  • I love this so much, what good memories. Damn I want my life back in 1996 :(

Now its small children and family and no Quake... ;( Damn, I want to go back,

so much... so much... it was the best times ever...

  • No matter how dark any artist's creation is i can always find NIИ work 1 level deeper

  • Thumbs up if you saw the NIN logo on the nail gun ammo packs.

  • @locutus12 Oh my god!

    That's what that was?

  • @locutus12 hell yeah

  • @locutus12 i did =D

  • @locutus12 ive seen them in Doom as well but i cant remember where. it might have been during when i was playing a mod but im not sure anymore

  • @weewoozesty E4M1 in Ultimate Doom, their logo is on the floor and ceiling of one of the rooms, you can see it by pushing a secret switch.

  • @RyanfaeScotland lol i went back onto my doom game and found it thx for reminding me

    but there was another place.......

in the second one i cant remember it lol. i still have a old computer put away and is old school kept with windows 95 and dos for those old games. quake. Command and Conquer, Wolfenstein, Ultima. all the good DOS games that these ones can play in 32 and stuff but are shit at it. the original doom sountrack is awesome compared to Zdoom and all those shitty ports now

  • @weewoozesty I had the same until I decided to turn the old computer into a linux Minecraft server. Waste of time though, turns out you can't run a Minecraft server with 256 Meg Ram lol who knew!!

  • @RyanfaeScotland i promised never to update that computer....... if it dies... i will preserve its harddrive or anything else like that or just keep its backup disks and floppies so that i can restore it to my backup old computer....... but i also have a modern computer... the thing is a fuckin powerhouse for gaming

its called a YOYOtech Fi7epower 1610v. lol the thing cost more than my car but damn it is fast it uses its own operating system called Express Gate which boots from cold in 5 seconds

  • @weewoozesty You guys do realize that there is this wonderful program called dosbox right? Lets you play all your old games on modern hardware. Also there are multiple Virtual Machine programs that let you run actual copies of 3.1, 95, 98, XP, Vista, etc. on your current machine. There's absolutely no reason to hang on to those old machines. Let them die.

  • i hate it when famous artists dont get awwards beccause their music is frowned upon

    masterwork deserved master awards

  • Wow, just when I think I'd seen all the interviews and heard all his songs, I find not one, but 2 more albums by Trent Reznor.

  • nine inch penises

    nuff said.

  • @LemonVX Good one LemonVX!

  • @TheAndiePerson

    ty i guess :D

  • @LemonVX LOL

  • He made a pretty awesome song for Doom 3 also.
