Actually, All Networks & Stations in the US MUST convert to HD/Digital by Feb 17th 2009 by order of the FCC., because they're fazing out ALL analog broadcasts
Wrong... HD is different than digital. Cable networks like CNBC are exempt. Broadcast stations just need to have a digital signal, they do not need HD. You can have a digital signal without an HD channel.
But Channel 7 Melbourne have now gone back to there 2005 intro/music with the Fly Over the City which is 100 times better to what they had. The music is slightly different.
Yes, I have the Mission on My Ipod too, The Mission by John Williams, Channel 7 Australia and NBC. By Far the Drums and strings do sound top class and the tecno of the 2000 till 2003 of Channel 7 was great too! The one they have now is not bad, but channel 7
Wow, it's been a long time since I watched the NBC nightly news, because I jumped this evening when I heard the "Tom Brokaw" after "John Chancellor". Yeah, I mean, Tom Brokaw hasn't been the anchor in years, but I never made the connection that his name would be at the beginning of the NNN opening.
Yeah I couldn't agree more with you. This sounds like a Roman fanfare with medieval trumpets. The Channel Seven news intro makes you want to watch it rather than put you to sleep like this one.
My Australian friends, NBC hasn't changed its version of the "Mission" because Nightly News has been the #1 network newscast for a decades & Americans identify that theme with that show. Plus, Nightly News is not one of several national/local news bulletins. Nightly News is a once-a-day, half-hour "flagship" national/world newscast for NBC, shown on all its stations. It's version is meant to also differentiate it from local news shows--whose themes are faster & more modern.
The other one sounds kind of weird to me. Like dance club owners took it and messed with it or something. I like this one better because its more serious lol. Just my opinion tho
I suppose it's cos American news needs to be full of grandeur because because of its population that it mostly generates its own news, and what isn't national is concerning the Iraq war and only major global events. Australian news gets heaps from America and globally already, and local news, so I guess it has to sound more 'hip' and 'cool' whereas America relies on prestige and grandeur to get its audiences and ratings. Just a guess though, could be wrong.
Or it could be the fact that this version of "The Mission" has always been used on the news, and to change it would feel weird? Idk, who knows. But that version is just the version the American indentify. Even if they dont know the name of the song, thell go: Oh hey! Thats the song from the news!
But if you listen to the original composition of The Mission by John Williams it's much more orchestral and symphonic. The NBC news theme is more brassy than the original version, and the Australian Seven News version is faster and with more string and drums...So both News themes depart from the original composition.
The Mission is still great, I've got it on my iPod lol!
Seven News in Australia uses the same theme music as NBC News. The Seven News music is much faster paced though and sounds more modern and upbeat. I reckon it sounds better than the NBC version! The NBC version is far too slow.
he was fired because NBC news couln't financially justify having some one on his pay to just read 2 news bulletins a week, casue he wasnt really a correspondent anymore. Thats why lester Holt got it cause he does more and probably didnt get a raise

I wonder if all the other news channels will go hd. CNN is and it is great that it will. Must cost a lot, though. Great video.
