@11000corvette They weren't smarter at it. After the oil crisis in the 80s, they changed muscle cars. They have never been the same, like they were in the 60s. The Viper was the rebirth of the muscle car era, but again, nothing like what they used to be. Italians never cared about going cheap, they kept their cars at $300k and still make some of the most luxurious cars in the world.

@Soulscarz all the Z06's I've seen run mid to high 10's on Drag radials, I've seen a ZR1 run the same time with normal street tires. :) Its mostly because the ZR1 doesn't get traction, I was in a 610 horse Z06 this weekend and I spun the tires through 1st and 2nd with barely any force at all hahaha

I don't know why people think a BPU Supra is running near a C6 ZO6. The C6Z with drag radials is a 10 second car at 128 mph with only tires. No BPU Supra is running 10s on straight 93 octane. I am older than most people in those post probably and I went through the entire Supra era in my 20s and remember them quite well.
@xGodlyxTapoutx Grand Nationals are older and still go for that kind of money and forget about touching a GNX for under 75K that has low miles. I had a 87 Grand national that was modded with 52K original and I sold it for $17,500 in less than a week. I agree the Supra is definitely no rice burner.

Supra have problem with weight on front end and it's very light at rear, that's mean bad traction. MR layout is best for 1/4 mile, of course with light-weighted car, and some good drag radials. Also AWD cars have best traction, but it's so expensive.

Because the MK4's are high 13's stock, and if you've actually ever seen one at the track, the turbo's don't tend to be that loud, granted it seems like a pretty cold enviroment. And there are plenty of stock block LS engine's making over 1k hp. Where supra's normaly require a swap on the bottom end, and that's considering inline six's tend to be alot more durable (not just Supra motors).
wrong wrong wrong, stock mk4 supra out of the factory is a 13.4, which isnt high, there is a supra in my garage, i know what they are capable of. wrong on the bottom end idiot, its usually the top end if anything, go look at those 9 or 8 sec supras, they have head upgrades if anything, supras bottom end can handle 1000hp EASILY, its been done, but i have yet to see any other motor do that consecutively and reliably such as the supra does

OK now you just opened the can. MK IV Supras are low 13 second cars. Many drivers have gotten low 13s and very few even got into the high 12s with them (Ryan Woon on a six speed manual). The supra in this video only has an exhaust which is only a 25hp upgrade if that. The fact that you call this car rice truly shows your ignorance and the fact that you say it can only achieve a high 13 in stock form further shows that. Driver skill is part of everything.

Thats funny it says 13mpg city because I get more like 16mpg and I my Supra is modded. As far as times on the magazines I have always seen cars perform better than the magazine specs say. Look at the C6 Z06, its advertised at doing 11.7 and there are good drivers doing low 11s and pro drivers like Ranger doing 10s with drag radials. Like I said I have seen many people get low 13s on Supras. The only production American car faster than it in 1993 was the Dodge Viper.

My every day driver is bone stock, it's ok fast but nothing special, and I've kept up with very lightly modded MK4's, granted they usually tend to pull away pretty good at about 70mph I can only assume that's VVT kicking in hard.
@TiKondaRoga All turbos have lag but production cars have very little lag. A stock supra makes 90% of its torque at 2000 rpms. If you ever see a well built BPU Supra on the track and put it up against a big turbo supra making the same power the Single turbo supra will lose. Another thing to mention is that the Supra was released during the LT1 Camaro and was only around for 1 year in America when the LS1 Camaro came out (1998).

Supras are Heavy cars. If you think its heavy you should see a 3000GT VR4 or some of these new muscle cars. :)

Ok, you looked up the wrong camaro appearantly. GM has the SS hard top weighing in @ 3,306lbs and rated @ 13.2 with 325bhp and 350 ft. lbs....that's GM's listing. You may have looked up the V6 or the convertible, cause both are heavier then the SS. And yes, VVT and Turbo's both have a lag... I see MK4's at my local track all the time, and I've never seen a stock or semi stock one even break into the 13's (keep in mind I live in Arizona where the atmospheric pressure is crap).
@TiKondaRoga VVT is really a feature placed in the car to allow it to straighten out the torque curve. Now if you look at its newest decendant the Lexus IS-F now that is an impressive car for today. It is a 5.0 V8 that does 12.7 stock in the 1/4. The reason I mention the IS-F is because it is one of the concepts from Toyota on how they were going to build the new Supra.
@TiKondaRoga The LT1 has to do with it because that the Camaro that was around for most of the MKIV Supra's lifespan. Everyone keeps comparing the MKIV Supra to the newer Camaro and forget to realize this car was built in America for only a year when the LS1 Camaro came out.
@TiKondaRoga All I am saying about the Supra is that stock for stock its power band is similar to that of the LS1 Camaro. They both make Peak torque at 4 grand and make peak horsepower at 5500 rpms. They are both top end cars with long gears. The VVT is what allows the Supra to achieve such top end.
The only advantage the SS has on the Supra is 30ft lbs of torque. And why are you talking about turbo lag and VVT on the Supra when both cars make peak torque and hp at the same time? Where did you get your facts from?

@11000corvette They weren't smarter at it. After the oil crisis in the 80s, they changed muscle cars. They have never been the same, like they were in the 60s. The Viper was the rebirth of the muscle car era, but again, nothing like what they used to be. Italians never cared about going cheap, they kept their cars at $300k and still make some of the most luxurious cars in the world.

@Soulscarz all the Z06's I've seen run mid to high 10's on Drag radials, I've seen a ZR1 run the same time with normal street tires. :) Its mostly because the ZR1 doesn't get traction, I was in a 610 horse Z06 this weekend and I spun the tires through 1st and 2nd with barely any force at all hahaha

I don't know why people think a BPU Supra is running near a C6 ZO6. The C6Z with drag radials is a 10 second car at 128 mph with only tires. No BPU Supra is running 10s on straight 93 octane. I am older than most people in those post probably and I went through the entire Supra era in my 20s and remember them quite well.

For the power their making they should be faster. And don't go and link me to video of John Woon or what ever his name is. He barely ran a 8.99 sec ET but with a trap of 164 he should have went 7.8. Supra have problem with weight on front end and it's very light at rear, that's mean bad traction. MR layout is best for 1/4 mile, of course with light-weighted car, and some good drag radials. Also AWD cars have best traction, but it's so expensive.

Because the MK4's are high 13's stock, and if you've actually ever seen one at the track, the turbo's don't tend to be that loud, granted it seems like a pretty cold enviroment. And there are plenty of stock block LS engine's making over 1k hp. Where supra's normaly require a swap on the bottom end, and that's considering inline six's tend to be alot more durable (not just Supra motors).

wrong wrong wrong, stock mk4 supra out of the factory is a 13.4, which isnt high, there is a supra in my garage, i know what they are capable of. wrong on the bottom end idiot, its usually the top end if anything, go look at those 9 or 8 sec supras, they have head upgrades if anything, supras bottom end can handle 1000hp EASILY, its been done, but i have yet to see any other motor do that consecutively and reliably such as the supra does

mkiv.supras,org Say's it's 13.8 @ 162kph/100mph, with 320bhp. Keep in mind HP is only achieved after the turbos spool and VVT is engaged. Thus 13.8 makes perfect sense. I'll use an SS camaro as a comparison: 325bhp with far more tq then a supra, also a couple hundred lbs. lighter then a supra, and like I pointed out the camaro doesn't have to wait to achieve it's HP... And it runs low 13's...Oh and I was speaking of the LS1 camaro's Or 4th Generation. Guess I should have mentioned that.

OK now you just opened the can. MK IV Supras are low 13 second cars. Many drivers have gotten low 13s and very few even got into the high 12s with them (Ryan Woon on a six speed manual). The supra in this video only has an exhaust which is only a 25hp upgrade if that. The fact that you call this car rice truly shows your ignorance and the fact that you say it can only achieve a high 13 in stock form further shows that. Driver skill is part of everything.

Thats funny it says 13mpg city because I get more like 16mpg and I my Supra is modded. As far as times on the magazines I have always seen cars perform better than the magazine specs say. Look at the C6 Z06, its advertised at doing 11.7 and there are good drivers doing low 11s and pro drivers like Ranger doing 10s with drag radials. Like I said I have seen many people get low 13s on Supras. The only production American car faster than it in 1993 was the Dodge Viper.

@TiKondaRoga All turbos have lag but production cars have very little lag. A stock supra makes 90% of its torque at 2000 rpms. If you ever see a well built BPU Supra on the track and put it up against a big turbo supra making the same power the Single turbo supra will lose. Another thing to mention is that the Supra was released during the LT1 Camaro and was only around for 1 year in America when the LS1 Camaro came out (1998).

When I meant fastest car in its price range I was referring to fastest new car in its price range. If I referred that to the example I just put it would make the fastest NEW car that I can get today for under $25,000 a Cobalt SS.
Supras are Heavy cars. If you think its heavy you should see a 3000GT VR4 or some of these new muscle cars. :)

the only new american V8 sports-/musclecar which is actually great for its price is the chevy vette C6 Z06 [505Hp&640Nm TQ @ 1420Kg] for just around 60.000€
I was damn disappointed when I saw the new challenger ... a 2ton fatass with 425Hp - even a N/A civic with just 300Hp can kill the srt8 chally :S

what are you talking about? If you are talking about cars that were as fast in that price range, remember I am referring to 1993. out of all of the cars you listed the only one that did 13s of the same year model was the Corvette (ZR-1, the LT1 Corvette did low 14s stock)

As I compared it to an SS camaro: more hp, alot more torque, and less weight, is rated @13.3 in the 1/4. So hows does a heavier car with less power and power lag (turbo's and VVT) run the same time? Please explain this...

Ok, you looked up the wrong camaro appearantly. GM has the SS hard top weighing in @ 3,306lbs and rated @ 13.2 with 325bhp and 350 ft. lbs....that's GM's listing. You may have looked up the V6 or the convertible, cause both are heavier then the SS. And yes, VVT and Turbo's both have a lag... I see MK4's at my local track all the time, and I've never seen a stock or semi stock one even break into the 13's (keep in mind I live in Arizona where the atmospheric pressure is crap).

@TiKondaRoga VVT is really a feature placed in the car to allow it to straighten out the torque curve. Now if you look at its newest decendant the Lexus IS-F now that is an impressive car for today. It is a 5.0 V8 that does 12.7 stock in the 1/4. The reason I mention the IS-F is because it is one of the concepts from Toyota on how they were going to build the new Supra.

@TiKondaRoga The LT1 has to do with it because that the Camaro that was around for most of the MKIV Supra's lifespan. Everyone keeps comparing the MKIV Supra to the newer Camaro and forget to realize this car was built in America for only a year when the LS1 Camaro came out.

@TiKondaRoga All I am saying about the Supra is that stock for stock its power band is similar to that of the LS1 Camaro. They both make Peak torque at 4 grand and make peak horsepower at 5500 rpms. They are both top end cars with long gears. The VVT is what allows the Supra to achieve such top end.
