HP dv2 is better in terms of computational performance. But mini 12 is fanless, last twice longer and much cheaper. Both of them are good. They are just different. dv2 is closer to laptop, mini 12 is closer to netbook.
how much memory does your mini 12 have? 1gb or 2gb?
where can i download the correct version of ubuntu that will be supported on the mini 12. i dunno if they have changed the chip but mine is gma 500 and struggles with ubuntu
I am currently using Jaunty (9.04, i386). UNR works fine, too. The thing you have to do is to add repository to the synaptics and get the polusbo graphic driver. I can't add any URL here so just google "PPA for Ubuntu Mobile Team" then find the lines that begin with deb, go to synaptic and add them. Reload the database then search for poulsbo driver. There is a extensive thread in Ubuntu forum for installing Ubuntu on Dell mini 12. You should take a look and if you find any problem, ask them.
I installed the poulsbo driver but it still seems to lag. is there anything else i can do to improve performance? I have looked all over the dell and ubuntu threads
If it came with XP, you can dual boot your mini 12 (XP and Ubuntu co-exist). You can use USB memory to install Ubuntu using unetbootin, or use CD using external CD drive. Then install poulsbo driver to fix the resolution. 9.04 works great if you don't need 3D acceleration. If you want to use Compiz, you have to use 8.10 instead.
hi, maybe these are a stupid questions, but: does Ubunto comes with some Office-like software? Is it compatible with office? What other kind of software comes with it? :) I'm thinking of buying one for college...
Ubuntu comes with openoffice, an almost excact copy of microsoft office and its comatible with it. It comes with a lot of software and there are free ubuntu replica's for almost every thinkable program.
Please, please tell me what music is playing! It's been in my head for days! Please!

The only substantial upgrade you can do is to get a fast solid state drive like Mtron. It is expensive (>$200)but you can feel the difference.

I bought a mini 12 with windows xp. I'm thinking about replacing it with ubuntu, I got the cd for installation but I'm not sure if it's compatible.

is it big? i mean its size..act, i would like to get one of DELL's models but i still confuse..hoho

Much bigger than those 10 inch netbooks. Much more useful (and easy on my eyes).
If you buy Dell mini 12, get one with ubuntu, then install 9.04 Jaunty, then add PPA Ubuntu Mobile repo then install poulsbo video driver.
