  • Extraordinary! Simply breathtaking. I'm literally weeping as I'm listening to this masterpiece. Josh's voice is so haunting which makes this song even more special. I am a South African and I can tell you that he has trully captured the feeling behind this song.

  • Of course, the tragedy is that "Weeping" is still of relevance to Palestine.

"He built a wall of steel and flame

And men with guns to keep it tame..."

"It wasn't roaring, it was weeping."

Tragically, for the inhabitants of Gaza it isn't "over anyhow" and it does still "matter now". "Weeping" is such a powerful song about oppression that is has to be sung with sincerity.

  • @carolinebza I'm glad I'm not alone in finding Josh Groban's rendering a bit facile. It's not his fault, I suppose; he's just a pop star. But the song has so much to say and Bright Blue and the Drakies do say it. I got roundly abused for my original comment so it's good to know I'm not alone!

  • one amazing singer i get the tingles when i listen to this song well any song he sings he is brilliant. amazing live and he is so dam hottttt x

  • so wanna see him live in oct gotta find someone to come with me. none of my mates have any taste?

  • Valeu cada segundo!

    Josh é fenomenal!

  • I think Josh sings this with as much emotion as anyone could he has an unbelievable voice

  • vaughnotofthedead. Agree absolutely. Josh Groban's rendering is just "pop" and robs the song of its very strong emotion. The original Bright Blue recording, with Dan Heymann, who wrote it, on keyboard, has hugely more meaning. This is true, also, of the recording by the Drakensberg Boys' Choir. They certainly didn't live through those times (but are a choir of black and white kids, so it might mean a lot to them) but they, too, knock spots off Groban, probably because they mean what they sing.

  • @splashydash & vaughn, have to agree. He's a great romantic singer but for saffers, none of the meaning and heartache comes through.

Yutube URL of Bright Blue version with some wonderful photographs is watch?v=l678doHQ04U

The SSQ version with Vusi is also fantastic.

Right now, straight after Black Tuesday, this song has become so full of meaning again - are we really just going to chuck everything away?

  • @splashydash: Josh means every word of that song. Please try and listen to him as he sings, he is being genuine! But @ the end of the day we all have our opinions but again try and listen to him without any biase towards him.

  • Josh has the voice, the looks, the chick, and now it turns out he also has the moves. What can this guy not do.

  • fave!!

  • Just gonna say that I love Josh but long messages are not gonna be read in this forum.

  • I personally just love EVERYTHING about Josh Groban! He has a great voice, is great looking and is just HOT!!!

  • I think that Josh belts too hard when singing live. His voice loses the great "silky" quality that it has during his album recordings.

  • What a voice...no matter what's he's singing about! Angelic, sensual, masculine, calming...PERFECTION!!

  • Right on, ForeverInLuvRA!

  • hhhhmm....

  • This really doesn't do the song justice, and frankly, this guy cannot possibly understand what he is singing about. I guess you had to live through those times in SA to know what it means. Check out the (original) Bright Blue version, it brings me to tears.

  • @vaughnofthedead Why doesn't he do it justice? Is the song too lively for the mood it's supposed to set? Blame the producers. Is Josh Groban's overly-vibratoed style not right for it? Well, that's kinda the point of him "making it his own". Or perhaps he can't relate to what people went through in that time period? Well of course not. Even I can't, and my father is from South Africa. That doesn't mean he shouldn't be able to spread the message of this song.

  • @vaughnofthedead Plus, if not for Josh Groban bringing the song to a younger audience (i.e., me), then I would never have found the original song and listened to it, nor would I have looked up the meaning of the words on the Internet.

  • how much did it cost to get these kind of tickets????

  • I love the one done by vusi mathasela from South Africa

  • The Soweto Gospel Choir does this song beautifully too...complete with the beautiful South African beat and cadence.

  • Dangg...I Just Love Dis Song

    He is Freshh Nicca

  • Josh groban is my favorite singer...

    I love his songs too...

  • OMG....Josh I love your voice, it's so deep, emotional, masculine, strong and angelic....You are an amazing singer..Keep up your excellent job and you deserved to be admired coz you are so adorable !!!

I love you Josh forever !!!

    ( kisses from Philippines )

  • Dan Heymann composed the song.

  • no he did not...idiot

  • Yes he did you numbskull, try googleing it before you broadcast your ineptitude to the world!

  • Josh said he, 'found this song' in South Africa. Not that he wrote it.

  • I adore this song!

    xx

  • I love this song. One of my favorite Josh Groban songs, hands down, along with Lullaby. I must admit though, it looks like Josh is wearing girl pants, heh.

  • nah Joshie's wearing regular guy pants.

  • He is mangling this song. It was is really about protesting racist fascism in South Africa. Get the origianl by Bright Blue.

  • The original is hands down better.

  • If someone has a copy of the original could you please post it. Thanks

  • I really want to see him live. He's so freakin' awsome. I love him. I have all of his cds. I can't believe this twenty six year old can sing!! This is my favorite song. What did he say in the beginning??

  • This and Lullaby are my two favorite songs on his Awake album--though the entire thing is lovely. Great performance!

  • This is my favorite song that he sings on his AWAKE album. I'm trying to find when he tours again so I can go and see him. I adore his voice. I usually stand like that while I'm in chorus. How he stands in the begining. Its an awsome song.

  • this song is so amazing! I saw him live in Oslo and he was just as incredible there as in this clip:) Go Josh, and come back to Norway soon! Wee that he's half Norwegian :D

  • I'm seeing Josh TONGHT in Herhshey,Pa...i'm SO excited!

  • I love this song to bits...and because Josh is singing it, it's 10x better!!!

  • I was there!!!

  • WAUW!! Great song, heard Josh sing this song in Amsterdam on the 21th of mei.

  • great song!!

  • i lyk this song, a comedian called mike cash sang it when i watched him nd since then av liked it

  • have the internet release of Awake and i am the offical keeper of the impure Josh thoughts on the FOJG boards. and yes he has a cute butt

  • LOVE IT!

  • I had to buy the whole Cd once I heard the songs posted. Thank you, I am a huge fan also and by the way he does have a cute rear!!

  • He always sounds great!

  • what is the message behind this song anyway?

  • Dan Haymann (Bright Blue)the original song writer wrote the song for the people of South Africa (Africa)during P. W. Botha's reign of terror. Apartheid (racism) How the world journalists looked on and how he lied. The roar is the cry of the people of Africa they are weeping.

  • I love this song. Josh has an amazing voice

  • I love this song. But then again, there really isn't a song by Josh that I don't like... x) Gosh, he has a nice butt! :D And I'm not saying that's the only thing that's looking good, but I just had to point that out. :P (like you guys didn't already know... ;D)

  • lol. well i guess i never saw that in him. /thiugh i did find other things out!! ;)

  • One of my favorite Josh songs. I adore him.

  • You must have been really close!!Thanks for sharing

  • I really like the message behind this song.

  • what is the messagE? I couldn't find one

  • I'm assuming you mean what the message of the song is. It is an anti apartheid song written by a white soldier in the 1980's who had been conscripted into the white armed forces to, inter alia, police and quell black uprisings in South Africa. The man he speaks about is the late PW Botha, the white president of South Africa at the time. It is a very poignant song for the vast majority of South Africans.

  • thanks for the info. when i first heard this song i thought it was a groban original. and now you're explanation makes sense: only south africa can produce a song with so much pain, and hope =)

  • me too!

  • Love it!
