  • just left message about dieolds email is kickmusic16@yahoo.com

  • what size dieold do i use for different size panels i would like to build 240watt panels.

  • @singblues1 The diode needs to be a little bigger in amps than what the cell is rated at. A 240 watt panel at 18 volts will need around a 15 amp diode. Mark

  • the sylgar that you pourd on the first one did not cove the cell on the backs. does it take some time for it to expand when you showed the second panel it looked like all the cells were fully coverd i wasnt sure if it was because you had used more sylgard or it just took mor time to get to that poin?

  • @bananaknapper Hello. I just used one sylgard and it takes time for it to move around. I also help spread it with a small paint brush. Mark

  • Where do I get the cheapest solar wafers?

  • @ladyelizabeth1100 I buy my cells off ebay.

  • I have 37+3 solar cells to make 120 watts, they are 5x5. how many sylgard do i need to put on the back. i'm new too making these solar panels. can you help me please.?

  • Thanks mark, Then I will go with 50 6x6 that I already buy, you think that is Ok?? With 2 Sylgard. My fríes do you think that is posible to see a video to see junction conection?? Thank a lot from Dominican Republic and Thanks again for helpping.

  • @vichalas hello 50 6x6 will need 3 sylgard. I will be making a new video soon showing how to connect to batteries, charge contriller and inverter. Mark

  • Thanks Mark, Then I will go with ;

  • Hi my friend

Thanks to answer, what you think is better for me make panel of 100 watt or 200 watt with tempered glass and How much of SYLGARD 184 do I have to use for square foot.

  • @vichalas I would go with a 72-3x6 cell panel "120 watt" and use 2 sylgard. Mark

  • I saw around otrer You Tube video and see that there are some malicious information about rupture of sows because of temperature change on the tempered glass and remenber the solar sows are paste in the glass, they say that when the glass expands and dilates the bristles do the same and to be rigid break, what you can say with relation to that. I'm undecided on the method to used for the construction of my panels they are 8 of 200 watt each.

I appreciate any advice. I live in Dom. Rep.

    Thanks

  • @vichalas Hello,The cells will break with plexi glass but not with tempered glass. Mark

  • @vichalas hey amigo. yo soy dominicano and i got tons of tempered glass. queres hacer business? holler back.

  • best diy pv pannel on youtube *****

  • I have 3 new HD videos and a web site.

  • You are awesome. Thank you for your help. I almost went off and did it completely wrong until I saw your videos. You are doing the world a great service. God bless you.

  • @MPaulHolmes You are to kind. God bless. Mark

  • Hello Mark , its very interesting source of electricity, how much is the total cost of one plate of solar panel?

in one regular house how? many plate they will need?

here in the philippines electric bills is almost kill us.

  • @JULIAROSS8530 Hello,One panel this size is 63 watts. Mark

  • @JULIAROSS8530

hello mark i want to purchase your aluminium frames and i want to know one thing with waht material you cover the back side of panel. can i use fiber and one thing more my previous panel reduces output in extreme sun i think temperature rizes what should i do to keep panel at normal temperature

  • This is a good video but I don't like to glue the cell directly to the glass like this. I would rather glue each single cell to a piece of board by dropping couple drops of glue in the middle of the back of cell. Why? Because it makes easier to replace cell if it broken without messing with other cell.

  • @nguyenvlan Hi if you do not encapsulate the cell itself will not last. You must not let oxygen get to the cell it will shorten the life.

  • also lately i have been using old storm window glass for my panels(single glass type)depending on the size of the glass is how i use the 3x3/3x4/3x6 etc.. cells.works well and cuts down on the cost

  • @joeshanethatsmyname Hello,I have made a few with the glass from old sliding glass doors.they work good for 108 -3x6 cells. Mark

  • used your idea with the sylgard...works great ,few bubbles to work with once poured,I cracked a few cells(3x6 but in theory they were paralled) so no harm no foul my panel so what:).the ?I wanna ask is have you tried to use a vibra-sand(Example ...black&decker makes a sander called a mouse) i was thinking about using a towel or another non-abrasive item to see if i could work the bubbles out (from the glass side)..also found that if garage wasn't hot enough i use the car trunk in direct sun.

  • @joeshanethatsmyname Hello I do vibrate my table now. I will soon hava new video out showing that. Mark

  • After building a solar frame or frames. How do u wire them into your home to start producing solar power? Do u have video of that?

  • Just an Idea, but why not spray it on the back of your panels. I think you could do more panels faster and save on the sealant. But like I said just an idea tell me what you think, and if you do it let me know how it turns out.

  • @kd8fki I still think pouring it and spreading with a paint brush is easyest. Mark

  • What about spraying this on the back of your panels? Seems like it would go a little further if it were sprayed on and you could do more faster. Just an idea.

  • my house is 1500 sq ft. how many solar panel's would i need and how much money would it take to buy them

  • @hmrld Hello, I am not sure it depend's on how much power you use. First thing you want to do is heat your water then go with photovoltic. You can start with a 1000 watts of panel's with a grid tie inverter. I have both of these system's and I save around $80 to $100 a month. Mark

  • how do i get the sylgard 184 for my solar glass panels

  • @jeremiah848 Hello you can buy the sylgard on ebay

  • Hello,Thank's, We use 1/4" tempered glass so I think it will hold up as good as a car wind shield. Mark

  • This is the best explanation and most professional I've seen. Curious how well that glass hold up to hail.

  • what would you suggest to cover the back of the solar panel?

  • @cddavisful You can use tedlar while the sylgard is still wet. Mark

  • Good Videos. How much power do one of those solar panels yield? What is the apporx cost for a single small cell (4rows of 9?)

  • @smazz104 Hello ,around 63 watt's.You can buy cell's now for around $1 each on ebay.

  • have you ever thought of trying fiberglass resin instead of the slygard??? the resin is cheaper but would it work?

  • @birdcoupleinflorida Hello Fiberglass turn's yellow and will crack the cell's in the hot and cold thermal cycle. Mark

  • Hello search solar frame on ebay and when you find my listing you can click on my other item's. Mark

  • Can you tell me where on ebay do you sell the frame and glass? I looked and can't find it.

  • Can you list all the products needed to make one of these solar panels.

  • @sk8punk353 Hello You will need frame ,glass,solar cell's,tabbing wire,buss wire,sylgard 184 and a diode . Mark

  • Hi I now sell the glass and the frame and glass on ebay. Mark

  • Great works, thanks for sharing video.

  • Yes one container is enough for 36 3" x 6" cell's. The sylgard will slowly spread over the entire area and I help spread it on back with a small paint brush. Mark

  • Is one container of Sylgard sufficient to cover the entire panel? Your video showed it covered only the gaps and not the whole panel. Your second panel is entirely covered with sylgard and therefore well protected. I don't really want to spend money on a second container unnecessarily as it is so expensive. Thanks for making the video.

  • The "glue " is called sylgard 184 and you can buy it on ebay. Mark

  • Mark,

what kind of glue did u use ?

  • How did you remove the bubbles? wouldn't there be air trapped between the cells and glass?

  • Yes there is some small air bubbles that get traped, but it does not effect the life of the cell. Mark

  • It may take a few day's for the sylgard to set up in the winter. If you can heat it up it will set faster.. Mark

  • Hi, great video full of info that i needed, I am about 90% done with my DIY 36 cell panel i made from wood, I need to know what gauge wire to use to run out of my panel I need to know this before i silicon my plexi on, I had planned on using 14 gauge wire because i have a bunch of it, do you think that will be ok? thanks! I will be posting a vid of my panel soon. thanks again and great info here!

  • Yes 14 gauge will be fine for a short run.

  • good job mate!! I might try one of your frames soon! Cheers!

  • congratulation for these very interesting and full of information video.

since i'm building a very lightweight PV panel for solar vehicale , i have a question about encapsulation.

my cells will be directly glued to roof of the fiberglass body , so can i use slygard as water and dust protection on the top (and not back) of the cells (no glass used to save weight) or is it better to use regular EVA sheet?

    thanks a lot

    thierry (from south France)

  • Hi, you will need glass or plexi for protection, sylgard alone will not last. Mark

  • @markp0177

thanks so much for your answer , and what about using only EVA sheet front and back? will it be enough as a protection?

    thierry

  • Mark, looks like a very strong frame I just ordered one from Ebay. Thanks and I will let you know how it turns out.

    Bob Gittle

  • Hi it will produce around 20 volt's in sun or shade. The amp's is what goes up and down from sun to shade, voltage stay's about the same. Mark

  • That is an excellent method. Far better than others I have seen. It looks sturdy and long lasting.

I think I have seen your frames on Ebay.

I especially like your custom work table with fitted window and tools such as weights.

All makes for a quick, clean, and consistent project .Must really reduce mistakes and increase quality.

    Well done. Really great.

I'm studying and collecting materials for my first panel right now. Your videos a a big help.

    5 ***** Thanks!

  • I make custom frames to fit your glass. I sell this frame and other size's on ebay. Mark

  • what material did you use to crate that liquid?

Once you finished pouring the liquid, do you cover the back to protect it?

  • The liquid is call sylgard 184 you can find it on ebay.I still sell the frame kit on ebay.I no longer sell the glass due to the cost of packaging. Mark
