There was another ship that left behind; not even salvaged after the attack. The USS Utah, a former pre-dreadnaught battleship, had been relagated to being an anti-aircraft testing platform. Sailors aboard just prior to 0800, notice several planes flying in formation toward Ford Island near where the Utah was and saw explosions from bombs dropped by the planes near the seaplanes. The Utah was hit and capsized within minutes of the first attack. 56 officers and men died onboard.

first of all Airzona was hit by a bomb that penetrated into and set off the forward magazines, second the death toll was so high because most of the crew were still below decks when the magazines exploded the result was the crew suffered one of three fates
1. Killed outright in the explosion
2. Blown overboard and burned to death in the fire
3. Were trapped below in the wreckage and sufficated or drowned since the fire made resuce impossible for two days after the attack

An additional 77 casualties were interred within her after having been recovered from the harbor.

There was another ship that left behind; not even salvaged after the attack. The USS Utah, a former pre-dreadnaught battleship, had been relagated to being an anti-aircraft testing platform. Sailors aboard just prior to 0800, notice several planes flying in formation toward Ford Island near where the Utah was and saw explosions from bombs dropped by the planes near the seaplanes. The Utah was hit and capsized within minutes of the first attack. 56 officers and men died onboard.

The pilots did not get lost; however, Pearl Harbor was concealed by clouds so all bombs missed their targets landing in the mouth of the harbor or up in the hills nearby. The result was a few shattered windows and the growing suspicion the Japanese were planing an invasion. A failure with a profound psychological effect on the US.

first of all Airzona was hit by a bomb that penetrated into and set off the forward magazines, second the death toll was so high because most of the crew were still below decks when the magazines exploded the result was the crew suffered one of three fates
1. Killed outright in the explosion
2. Blown overboard and burned to death in the fire
3. Were trapped below in the wreckage and sufficated or drowned since the fire made resuce impossible for two days after the attack

In very early morning, when the water was completely still, and as the sun rose, you could stand on Ford over-looking the USS Arizona and see directly into her starboard side and down the full length of her. The aerial bomb, a converted armor piercing naval rifle shell, dropped from 10,000 feet, penetrated her decks just aft and starboard of the number two turret and entered a powder magazine where it exploded a few seconds later. The heat from the resulting fires was so intense that her super structure mains for another 64 frames, melted. 1,102 men were incinerated and fires spread to just ahead of her number three turret abraft. An additional 77 casualties were interred within her after having been recovered from the harbor.

I met a retiree that was taking chared bodies off the Arizona,one froze in death on a mast ladder.

Second off The USS Arizona wasn't torpedoed it was hit by a High Altitude Bomber. The bomb penetrated the Deck armor & went straight through to the forward magazine, were it then detonated.
