  • i was on the floor in tears when he said " its gunna move"

  • As a rugby enthusiast and avid cricketer (when we play the Aussies!) this is exactly what football is like to those of us who do not give a shit.

  • @Hazza32 Rugby has the same format...

  • ITS GONNA MOVE!

  • He had to walk a long ways

  • "Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I'm afraid it's a lot more important than that!"

Taken from a poster in my college...

    *facepalm armageddon*

  • @HeinrichKonig If you don't understand that quote - which actually referred to American football when it was first spoken by Vince Lombardi but was then appropriated by Bill Shankly,- you don't understand life or death.

  • @kisbie so people get tortured and killed over american football? :P

  • @HeinrichKonig No, but in Argentina in 1978 people got tortured and killed while cheering their team on to win the World Cup.

  • @kisbie So was that law enforcement doing that? if so then my college have REALLY misrepresented that quote XD

  • @HeinrichKonig If you can consider a South American version of the Gestapo 'law enforcement' then yes.

  • @kisbie Ok, lemme get this straight... The quote is meant as a statement of defiance against a tyrannical reigeme, saying "fuck you, we'll cheer whoever we want and you can't bully us into doing otherwise" (in a broard sense)... and they made a poster about it which essentially makes it just seem like it's saying take 'football super-seriously'...

    I repeat: *facepalm armageddon* :P

  • Genius.

  • I am a rabid football fan who cares dearly for the game and I even give a shit about whats happening in Leagues that have nothing to do with the team I support...but this is funny and sums up nicely what ANY sport's presentation is like to someone who dosen't care for it.

    Mitchell is a legend.

  • I did not know Mitchell was that fat?

  • @MrNusecus He used to be - for quite a while. He's lost it though.

  • @MrNusecus He is not that fat. : p

  • @rose21183 I'm a short man -_-"

  • WATCH IT! WATCH THE FOOTBALL! WATCH IT, WATCH IT, IT’S GONNA MOOOVE! WATCH THE FOOTBALL! IT’S FOOTBALL!!!!

  • Lmfao!

  • 1:43 watch it... watch it... IT'S GONNA MOVE!

  • Funniest clip on this show. Watch it, watch it, it`s gonna move!

  • I love football, but i love this even more, pure class

  • @jjcs101 lol, only a footballer would say 'class'

  • @LimeyThunder sorry, were you trying to use 'footballer' as a euphemism for anything? Cause I am, but you say it like theres something wrong with me.

  • @jjcs101 nah theres nothing wrong with it, i like football too , im just saying football people use the word 'class' which proves you like football aswell

  • I wonder how many times David did this spiel from start to finish so they could get all the different angled cuts together.

  • I think they could be showing football

  • David loves the bore that is cricket. go figure!

  • IT'S GONNA MOVE

  • Do you think he likes football?

  • david mitchell deserves a medal for summarising exactly the way football appears to people that actually dont give a shit about it whatsoever! fucking hero!

  • @ThePurpleman21 like anybody gives a fuck.

  • @KopOut constructive criticism, that's what I like to hear! much better than mindless insults.

  • if he says footall and it shows footballs...is there anyway he could say the word "porn"?

  • Watch it watch it its gonna mooovee!!!

  • i like bananas

  • This made my day...epic loooool

  • sounds like hell...

  • I love how I got from the cin review to this

  • try and pause it at exatly 1.06 haha!!

  • @jonnylawdable Haha I got it! What a face.

  • Thats pretty effing sweet

  • this just made me want to watch football

  • ITS GONNA MOVE!

  • "Battle for the North West, when Shrewsbury meet Macclesfield" hhaha

  • I'm thinking of watching the football, any suggestions?

  • This is gread

  • ..lol Does anybody else think he looks a lot like Nick Griffin here?

  • @Dungarth LOL

  • I think it might be nice to share Dave's tweet from a few days ago in the vicinity of this brilliant sketch for those not on twitter:

"I've always felt British and supported Wales in the rugby, England in the cricket and the film on another channel in the football."

  • Watch his eyes bulge out of his skull at 1:05 when he says 'All the football all the time'.

  • Comment removed

  • He's got some weight there.

  • Shrewsbury vs Macclesfield is barely a "north-west battle"

  • i love footy, but this makes me feel so pointless for following

  • This is so bloody brilliant.

  • The sad thing about this is the people who watch it and think "Yeah, that's why I like football!" completely missing the irony that football's just the same thing over and over again, and is all so pointless!

  • @CaptainAndyman

with all due respect as someone who has no interest in football, you're not really in a position to be pointing out what you believe to be the floors in the game. i find it sad that you think you're opinion on football is so accurate that everyone will be dying to hear it, when you're actually questioning other people's individual interests- you know, those which have no bearing on your life. maybe i'm wrong in this case, but that's just the kind of attitude i can't stand.

  • @Theechosen1from1993 First of all, it's flaws, not floors, but then I wouldn't expect decent spelling from a football fan. Secondly, do you think David Mitchell did this sketch to promote football? Everything I said in that comment was the exact point this sketch is trying to make - they're trying to show how ridiculously over-dramatised such a pointless game is!

  • @CaptainAndyman

it looks like my pre-judgement which i reserved was correct! you actually took your point as far to claim football fans are orthographically incompetent! and the best thing about it is you probably looked at that one error i made, which i could have corrected if i'd have noticed it, and thought "jackpot!" so you could make your ludicrously ignorant point. and you've also missed the point of the sketch. it's a satire of the media's promotion of football not football itself.

  • @CaptainAndyman

do me and yourself a favour here and don't bother replying. this chain has gone as far as it can go and the only way to start it again would be for the conversation to go around in circles. and you're the one coming across worse here so just stop commenting before you dig yourself into a deeper hole.

  • @Theechosen1from1993 How am I coming off worse? I'm agreeing with the actual video that these comments are about, and agreeing with the brilliant David Mitchell, who has made this sketch to make fun of football! He's not a fan! But you didn't want me to reply, so feel free not to reply to this comment. I doubt you know many more words anyway.

  • @CaptainAndyman

oh no i was wrong that last statement clearly shows you're the bigger man xD

  • @Theechosen1from1993 All I'm doing is agreeing with the clip and pointing out how sad it is that there are fools who will watch this and think it's trying to make football look good, when the point of this sketch is to make football look ridiculous and show how it's advertised to look so dramatic when really every game is just the same thing over and over and over again.

  • @CaptainAndyman Like how a game of chess is just 2 sets of pieces taking each other with an inevitable check mate. Yeah all games of chess are just the same thing over and over with no strategy, skill or depth.

  • @darkwhitty Well, to someone watching, yes! Sure, play football or chess or whatever, it is fun for the players, but watching people play a game is just watching slightly different combinations of the same stuff over and over again.

  • @CaptainAndyman So you admit that a lack of understanding of the game and not considering the importance of the win would make it appear to be boring as a spectator?

  • @darkwhitty I admit that games or sports of any kind are only enjoyable through experience/playing them and that watching someone else play when you're not playing yourself is about as interesting as watching paint dry.

  • @CaptainAndyman You may as well say that about anything! Films, gameshows, etc. Each to their own I guess.

  • @247custard I think it's more because the football hooligans of the U.K feel like they're part of the team, when really they are just poor sods who managed to gather enough money to buy a ticket to a game. When you watch someone playing chess, darts, hockey, even cricket to some extent (for most countries), people aren't like "WE WON! IN YOUR FACE BITCHES!" and then start a riot on the ground, it's more like "Our team won, in your face". The obsession with football is so big, it's pathetic.

  • @SelasSolaris bit harsh, but yeah i live in the UK and its basically become like a religion. i dont much care for the game personally.

  • I think he's talking about Rugby.

  • Welcome to football hell.

  • Still don't get why footballs so appealing....my boyfriends been trying to explain for months..

  • @ShatteredxSpiritx rewatch the video and it answers your question

  • Comment removed

  • WATCH THE FOOTBALL EVERY FUCKING DAY FOOTBALL FOOTBALL LETS TALK ABOUT FOOTBALL ITS ALWAYS DIFFERENT I SWEAR

  • O.M.G!

  • *sigh* You just don't understand football, Mitchell

  • this is basically why i think sports are great :]

  • I hate saying that something's accurate when that's the sodding point of it, but this truly is what Sky Sports is.

  • It's that time of year again :-(

Can't they at least wait until some time in September?

  • Watch the football..watch the football..IT'S GONNA MOVE!

  • EVERY KICK OF IT MASSIVELY IMPORTANT TO SOMEONE PRESUMABLY!

    Seriously, though, fuck Sky.

  • this is a excellent parody of the "Sky Hysteria Channel" and their right to show every single game of football in the country. Would it appear to any American sports channel

  • Haha! Clearly a spot on parody of "Sky Hysteria Channel" in general, could equally apply to any of the OTT US sports channels as well.

I love M&W, craming in a comedy sketch almost every twisted thought and rant I have ever had and bring it to life so perfectly.

This again, has driven me nuts for decades. NO - ITS NOT A FUCKING CLASH OF TITANS - ITS A GAME OF FUCKING FOOTBALL!

Mitchell needs Webb to call him a twat occasionally, but both of them should go into schools to teach kids REALITY!

  • I love football, but this video is one of my favourite things

  • Every kick of it massively mattering to someone presumably!

  • This is basically what Sky Sports do when they promote ridiculous gimmicks like 'Grand Slam Sunday'.

  • 0:37 the f word in the background. haha, nice touch :D

  • I like the bit about football

  • @voorface its pronounced soccer... yeah

  • hilarious!

  • I hate televised sports. All of it.

  • This is the best sketch they have done...

  • He's lost SOOOO much weight now looking back at this!

  • this sums up everything wrong with this country and the huge emphasis we put on football.

  • @alphaspecie224 Boo-hoo, go eat a falafel or something

  • @alphaspecie224 oh come on!! that is a crazy statement! to say it sums up EVERYTHING that is wrong with the country! I dont think football is everything that is wrong, thats just silly! when your at home watching tv, and football is on, and you dont want to watch it... just change the channel! its not that hard!

  • mattering to someone presumedly

  • please its football not soccer

  • @azianberry I know people in the UK dont like football being called 'soccer', I dont like it myself but in other countries like Ireland, USA, and Australia they play their own version of football, which they refer to as 'football'! so when talking about soccer it has to be referred to as soccer to differenciate! in England the only version of football really played is soccer so they can just refer to it as football without any confusion!

  • this actually makes me want to watch soccer. I never watch soccer

  • i love football but i love this more

  • So much hyperbole, so many camera angles! I think I just prolapsed something...

  • This should just be the official Sky Sports promo. Sums it all up really!

  • 2400th thumb up :)

  • @joe89nufc Good for you.

  • Football is what happens when a species that has evolved to have a high percentage of warriors finds that there isn't a need for them. Just as well really.

  • @chrisofnottingham Yes, except you'd hope that in the time when warriors were needed, most of them didn't just stand around the field of battle waving scarves at the few men doing the actual fighting =P

  • perfect

  • The maddened look in his eyes gets me every time. :D

  • Sh!t stadium!

  • "It will never be officially decided who has won the football."

This could very well be the funniest phrase and the most philosophically enlightening all in one sentence.

  • David's comments on football - 'I just wish it would stop'. ;)

  • Watching football eh? .... It's not exactly Brain surgery is it?

  • @Aeton brain surgery? not excactly rocket science, is it?

  • @Aeton True, but analyzing a game might be harder than you expect it to be. ;)

  • @Aeton watching football whilst doing brain surgery eh? ....... not exactly rocket science is it?

  • @Aeton It's certainly not rocket science.

  • @Aeton

Making brain surgery comments on Mitchell and Webb videos? ....Not exactly Rocket science is it?

  • @Aeton Leaving comments eh? .... It's not exactly Rocket science is it?

  • I will never again be able to watch one of those cheesy OTT football adds without lmao

  • I will never again be able to watch one of those cheesy OTT football adds again without lmao :)

  • 51 people never saw the football :L

  • I think I started hyperventilating watching this. "Watch it all here, all the time, forever, it will never stop! The football is officially going on forever! There is still everything to play for, and FOREVER to play it in! Watch it, watch the footbal, its going to MOVE!!!"

  • Comment removed

  • This actually makes me want to watch football.

  • These guys are fucking geniuses.

  • @ChequeWriter Yes, yes they are. This should advertise on sky sports, I don't watch football but if anything was going to persuade me, this is the clip right here :)

  • fantastic !!!!! supercharged energetic rant!

  • My favourite part was when he was ranting about football

  • *insert quote here*

  • I love how he actually rips idiotic things like football shows and does it well

  • "Massively mattering to someone, presumably!" That line is so true!

  • @Sloth1898 Hear hear!

  • WATCH THIS FOOTBALL! IT'S GOING TO MOVE!

  • pretty fat!

  • @fatsamjazz yeah lol i forgot how fat he used to be looking back on he has lost a lot of weight

  • @colashanacogh yeah! he's a right fatty!

  • for anyone whos wondering, ireland sometimes calls it soccer because of gaelic football. still tho football is more common

  • I like the part where he says 'football'.

  • oooooooooooooooooo gosh, what to do with these guys, davd mitchel is such a comic legend. Loooove these sketches

  • sky sports execs pls watch this and hang your heads in shame.

  • Lol, he does have a point :/

  • Shout out to my hometeam Shrewsbury!

  • @ekmad West Mids, baby!

  • "watch it, watch it its gonna moooove!" bloody brilliant

  • Can't turn on any Sky channel without it degrading to this every ad break.

  • I haven't rofled so hard

  • hahahahahahahh good 1 :D

  • Filmed at lofts road and doesn't mention qpr once lol

  • That is just incredible! lol

  • He says football 17 times! haha classic sketch

  • WATCH ITS GOING TO MOVE!!

  • "Looking forward to March - every football team will be playing football several times and in various combinations!"

  • exactly like the football ads on tv..

  • sweet, fukin footy loosers!!

  • @robertmoody889 *losers.

  • the giants of Charlton play host to the titans of Ipswich, making them both seem normal size...

  • As a huge footbal fan, this sketch opened my eyes to the fact that nobody ever actually wins the football. It seems obvious, but it's not something you ever think about when you're spending hundreds of pounds per year on tickets.

The sad reality is; the football ends when you die, but not before then. So you're chasing a victory that will never happen.

  • @kriminalcollective Sounds a lot like chasing the dragon. ;)

  • this is why channel 4 should pick up football

  • GOAL FLASH!

    Preston 1 Notts Foreset 0 (Cater 35)

  • You have to admit, every weekend, football is the same old shit.

  • lol so sky sports

  • Was this shot at Loftus Road?

  • @Jonnnnnnnnnnnnnnno I was wondering that too, but I found out that it is shot at Loftus Road :)

  • I think they got this idea from an episode of the Simpsons from years ago - where they also alluded to football going on forever...I'd love to know...

  • simply epic.

  • Probably the funniest thing ive ever seen

  • Very true lol it neeeevvvveeeer eeeeennnndddssssss
