Many Viet Nam vets always considered Leaveing on a jet plane a signature song for them and that the song was talking to them but I believe Mary had no interest in the problems of Viet Nam vets or the sacrifice they were making. I love her music and she was a fabulous entertainer alond with Peter and Paul.
Mary Travers was my hero. A Kentucky girl who passed on a significant musical career in 60's contemporary music for the chance to join Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey. The 3 first began singing in 1961 at the Bitter End coffee house in the Village and always stood tall in the belief that issues of peace & civil rights were noble causes. I saw Mary in the Spring of 1973 at The Troubadour in West Hollywood and she was wonderful. For all you were and all you stood for, here's to you Mary ~ R.I.P.
Judy Collins has aged so gracefully and beautifully. She sounds as wonderful as the first albums I bought of hers years ago. This is a wonderful tribute to Mary Travers. This is a lovely video and I appreciate you posting it. Thank you.
What ever I wanted to say has already been said, so Ditto Ditto Ditto. I cry as I write this. I saw Judy in concert a month ago, and the voice of an angel is still here. Another Agel will always be in my heart.
Thank You for posting this and the other videos. I'm living in a cave, and didn't Know that Mary Traver's had died. Thank you for letting all of us see this tribute. My heart is breaking now for what happend a year ago.
@Paralipa - I think very little notice WAS made of the passing of Mary Travers. And that is a real pity. Perhaps people in New York City were more aware, but not in the USA generally, or around the world. I think it was barely acknowledged in the media about her death, or pending death either. She and we deserved more about it. Mary -- we loved you!
@eplafan Yes. There were a number of actors, recording artists and politicians there.
Peter announced at one point that the plants that were onstage should be taken home. There was a snicker in the audience and he said he was serious because it went along with Mary's nature. As soon as he said that, Whoopi jumped out of her seat, walked up to the stage and grabed a plant.
It was pretty funny and it'd be nice to see if PBS ever did something with the footage of the event.
I don't know where you can see it. Sorry. PBS was there filming everything because I understand they were considering airing or releasing the footage. I don't know what they decided to do, if anything.
I've just reached out to a friend for info on the footage and will update with the answer I get.

Crystal clear beautiful voice of an angel, Judy has an incredible presence all the way around, "amazing Judy".

This is a stunning performance. Judy's voice sounds as powerful as ever; I've never heard another singer hit those high notes quite like that.
RIP
Mary

I love this hymn and I especially love to hear Judy Collins sing it.
I had it played last year at my sister's cremation (the version with the RAF choir).
This version shows that her voice is as good as ever, it has lost none of it's quality.
