I hear allot of bullshit coming from those ignorant piston engine wackos who never worked on rotary engines.After removing the spark plugs, I've turned the flywheel by hand which can't be done with piston engines because of too much frictional restrictions from valve train, crankshaft, camshaft and other moving parts, which equates to LOSS power and reliability!

rx8 fuel consumption can compete with any sporty car out there (15-20 mpg), oil consumption is very limited and who the hell gives a damn about emissions?

I would say I know my way around a typical internal combustion engine well enough, but there is one thing I do not get about those rotary engines...... they are dead simple, with very few moving parts and no camshaft, yet, all of the "race prepped" rotaries have a nasty thumping idle similar to a V8 with a .600 lift cam..... what gives?
