  • I got lost even when I played a simplied version. This is an extremely difficult piece.

  • I wanna learn this piece!!! XD

    : >

  • Great performances!!

  • This is yet another great test of pianists who today must all play Petrushka.

Some years ago the test was Gaspard de la Nuit.

What´s next as this is as difficult as things can get.

  • balakirev islamey

  • today is his birthday and i looked at youtube what kind of music he made....

it's okay, but for classic music it's wild, isn't it?

  • what do you mean, for classical music? just because music is classical does not make it any less exciting.

  • Classical? Stravinsky?

I think not. He spanned modernism, post-modernism and futurism. His ballet "The Rite of Spring" incited a riot.

  • Stravinsky was neo-classical. He did span the modernist period, but his music is classic.

  • There is a marked difference between neo-classical and classical.

In fact, there is a marked difference between neo-classical and Stravinsky. Prokofiev was a neo-classicist. Stravinsky never was.

Unless, of course, there is a piece by Stravinsky that I haven't heard.

Which there isn't, by the way. I have every single piece by Stravinsky, on the Decca recording, conducted by the man himself. I've heard them all.

Not a one is neo-classically written.

  • @eoghdes18: One should never claim to have listened to the whole work of a composer. Have your heard his first piano sonata? I don't mean the 1924 one, cause there's an even earlier one, sounding very late-romantic, which was 'forgotten' by Stravinsky himself, since it's style was so different from the one later achieved and reflected a younger and more naïve composer... A bit like Prokofiev's first!

  • sick

  • put up a video of this when u are in julliard

  • "sick" is a good thing.

  • lol

  • Looks like crazy pianist telling his story through the music. I like it a lot indeed!

  • I'd really really like to see it live!

  • so exciting! yes he plays very well this piece which I love very much !

  • wow very nice sound and very nicely balanced!you can hear everything but its not in a noisy way! wow

  • wow its really good!! his improvisations fit perfectly and sound really good!! not good for competitions but really good for entertainment!!

  • anyone had any idea where can i find this piece for both score and also mp3 file type?? i nid to find it for my dear~ as a present = )

  • u wont be able to get an mp3 of this exact rendition but the petrushka is everywhere. its by igor stravinsky. u could probably find it in any music store that sells a lot of music scores but just a warning this is an extremely extremely difficult piece

  • amazing. this is absolutely marverous

  • great performance

  • 最高に上手い感動すた

  • does anyone know where i can find the music for this?

  • very exciting performance!

  • sigh, i wish i could play like that*

  • Amazing play! His strenght and speed really fit this composition! Splendid!

  • Increible, es una de la caciones que mas me gustan por su nivel.

  • Performer is amazing, so is stravinsky. I just love the connosant dissonance is the songs.(btw, what is the official name for that?) I would love for this play to come near where I live.

  • More modern music (or "neoclassical" as Stravinsky called himself) achieves these dissonances by using the tritone as a stable tone. You hear the lydian mode a lot which contains the tritone and gives it a very bright, upbeat, and yet meditative quality. Polychords and polytonality can also give you varying degrees of "consonant dissonance".

  • Thanks, I looked that up. Also I still wish a performance of petrushka would come through my town. I haven't gotten to much into Stravinsky yet, but from what I've seen this is is most innovative work.

  • Buenos Aires. Puros Portenos. Bravo. Never heard of Rivera. Pero Excellentisimo. Gracias for this. Everyone in Yonkers, New York loves it

  • beautiful in both - performance (Riviera) and composition (Stravinsky) :D

    thank you

  • Enhorabuena; gran interpretación, mucho virtuosismo.

  • HE AWARDED ME IN A COMPETITION! Really good!

  • OMG... this is insane x_x

  • Bravo!
