santacruz are good quality but the giant maestro suspension system is in many ways superior than the rest of there product line up in terms of ride quality. they don't quite have the market experience as some of the other bicycle companies that have been round for longer like giant and specialized. they do make great bikes though. santacruz don't seem as popular as they used to be now amongst many riders
You can still do well on a cheaper bikes if you have the skills. Look at some of the retro downhill bikes, those bikes are still capable in the right hands. Example, Giantatx1 or Cannondale Super V ...people like Myles Rockwell rode them. They only had 6 inches of travel...would you say you are as good a rider as him even now with todays technology and bikes having 8, 9, 10 inches? ..I doubt it.
agreed biking is so expensive, if your a kid and mommy and daddy wont buy a new bike for you you drop your whole bank acount on a bike sucks, they need to make the bikes cheaper and make it more possible for more people totally agree with 1982FMJ
v10 is awesome but the asking price is just rediculous. mountain bikes have a limit on price for the amouont of materials used in the manafacturing. its getting near the price motorcross bikes. there taking the mick with the price of the v10. mountain biking is supposed to be about the enjoyment of the sport and not bikes that are hard to afford. we should lower the cost of mountain biking to encourage more people to enjoy it
@1982FMJ you fail to realize that the market is run mainly by small companies or sections of companies. The v10 that your ranting over is the result of years of research, both by the professionals they hire to engineer them, but the manufacturing processes, advertisement, and racing teams. The price for a single design program, like autodesk, will run you over $4000 USD. Motorcross bikes rely on relatively similar suspension and geometry standards, where as the mountain bike world isn't.
@1982FMJ Or you can just try to buy a lower end brand used on ebay or craigslist for under $1000. Nobody is saying you HAVE TO buy a santa cruz V10, or specialized demo, or trek session. These bikes are the ducati's and ferrari's of mountain bikes... you gotta pay to play buddy.
according to syndicates mechanic doug hatfield, peat and minnar are using a 9.5" shock this year to give the shock an easier life. check it on freecaster

V10 is Awesome.... giants system is good, but the V10 is legendary, perhaps not worth the asking price, but the REAL legend is Steve Peat :)

@thechezanator3 v10 is still relatively simple engineering. alot of it is marketing hype about the years of research. V10 is still just a bike
1982FMJ 1 year ago
@thechezanator3 word on the street is the v10 was designed by peaty with a crayon when he was 6. no shit
