  • Okay she sounds NOTHING like Patti.....Patti has immense false-vibrato issues. Angel's belt resonance is directly in her mask and Patti's is a bit farther back.

  • @QuartanAidan I don't care where her resonance is. Her mask, her ear or her toe. I love her, just adore her. Patti too. But Angel, oh my goodness.

  • What the hell was that at 0:40? Close your eyes and listen to it. Is that you Patti Lupone? LOL.

How can anyone watch that part without laughing?

  • @JSchnabbs try to sing it and tell me if you find it funny.

  • @lexellcassini Only if you promise to watch it.

  • @JSchnabbs I did as you ordered. I didn't laugh. In fact, I loved it.

  • She really sounds like Patti Lupone at the high notes to me

  • Oh Angel, I pledge my everlasting devotion to you. I might be your biggest fan out here. You are so talented and so huggable! There, I've said it again.

  • I have the Company vocal book released after the revival and AHP is in this key. It's to my understanding that that's considered the definitive version now but I could be wrong.

I think both Angel and Pamela take on very different interpretations and I love them both equally. This is my favorite song from Company by far. <3

  • I realize this isn't necessarily canon, but I love it in the lower key. (:

  • WRONG KEY!!!! Guesss she couldnt do it in the original key like Pamela Myers

  • @Marktheho could you?

  • @Marktheho Was the original key higher? Lower? Pam Myers is a treasure. I love her, and I really like this young lady, Ms.Desai

  • Loejyrrab: Ms. Desai is appearing as Pasiphae in the world premier of Marina Carr's "Phaedra Backwards" at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ from Oct. 18 through Nov. 6, 2011. It's not a musical ;) My young son is playing the kid minotaur.

  • @hinhin2 Just saw it on Sunday - it's an incredible show! Congrats to you and your son!

  • @hinhin2 Nice to see the update on the very talented Ms. Desai. What a cutie.

  • Goodness i can't get enough of this, my music teacher once showed my class this video in 7th grade, and i still love it ever since

  • Anyone know what this lovely young lady is doing these days?

  • 7 people can't afford transportation.

  • Too bad this is in a lower key than the original, it is really tough to sing though due to the amount of support needed with notes and lyrics that go by pretty quickly

  • She is scrumptous. She is also a cutie pie and she is a wonderful singer/actress.

  • LOVE her as Marta!!!

  • I love how at 2:53 ish the intruments in the background play the Bobby Babby theme.

  • I love this piece. And this actress is fabulous!

  • THIS. WOMAN. IS. AMAZING.

  • I'm playing her in my local theatre company's production of this show, it excites me!=]

  • I like how you put this together. Awesome. Thank you!

  • She's the stewardess on The Event (NBC). I recognized her immediately. Angel Desai is awesome.

  • This whole cast was phenomenal! I love this girl as Marta. Her vocal range is incredible, and she makes the song so exciting!

  • it's a shame that 5 people missed the like button.

  • i had a girl in my drama class sing this song it was so good

  • omg. i was soooo excited when i saw her on The Event on NBC as the flight attendant. I was like MARTA!!!

  • ahahahahha she's amazing and i love that wierd mix voice she has after she sings the verse with the battered barks

  • i love how the instruments sing "people, people, people pee"

  • does she do it on purpose that her voice is kind of shreiky?

  • I love this cast of Company :)

  • This is brilliant her voice is so wonderful, an amazing performance

  • Personally I Prefer The Original, Pamela Meyers, Absolute Amazing.

  • Some of Sondheim's most difficult and challenging writing and this cast does a marvelous job!

  • I love this song. Angel is great.

  • "Well how 'bout thaaaaaaaat"

  • this song is amazing, it got me into a highschool for performing acts.

    Thank Angel Desai :)

  • That lady knowed how to wear a collar... uh what was I about to say? I mean great song. *grins* Johan.

  • So New York--greatest city in the world.

  • I love her version but I hate that it's transposed! I'm playing Marta in an upcoming production and I like Angel's singing, but I can't follow this one because it's in a different key...

  • angel desai is a true talent. i played the character of larry in college, and this was one demanding soundtrack!

  • I like her singing! Not sure why others don't, she puts some edge and personality into it. This is better than other versions I've heard.

  • when she starts going into the higher notes i get this weird picture of Patti LuPone...idk y though

  • @CardboardCreative You think exactly how I did when I first heard this!! Wow Yes I'm not the only one lol. She sounds great this is my favorite version :)

  • I don't like how she says "And they walk together"

But god, such a hard song. It's like 4 minutes of death

  • agreed and agreed. she redeems herself with the rest of the song and whole show though

  • Agreed! I sang this for a Broadway revue show back in high school and I needed my inhaler afterward. Cruel, cruel Mr. Sondheim...

  • i love this soo much!!

  • Sondheim is very difficult, personally I give her kudos :P :)

  • I love this interpretation of the song... vocals aren't awesome though

  • pretty cool song, she has a nice voice, but i found when she went higher it was a little off

  • Yeah, for the most part it's okay but then when she has to hit certain high notes it actually makes me wanna cover my ears from how off strained it is. Not dissing her though, she put the effort into the part she was given.

  • It sounds like she's saying upholstered BALLS instead of upholstered WALLS. Listen closely.......

  • itsactually 'postered walls'.

  • it's upholstered...

  • actually ur wrong its postered, sondheims talking about walls on the street with posters and graffiti with crued remarks on them..

  • B-E-A-UTIFULLLLL!!!

  • Singing Sondheim is a challenge. Understanding what he wrote is just as much a challenge. And as far as I'm concerned this vocally pretty good. But I don't actually feel that it's understood. Probably another director who gave the vocalist the wrong instructions. But then again; who am I? Vocally this is pretty good.

  • i cant really say i loved her vocals for this one. at all. sorry.

  • I'm actually singing this tomorrow in my Musical Theatre class. Love it so much! I like her and this key waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy better than the original. Hopefully my director can play it in this key.

  • my friend && I have to sing this in drama class soon omigosh i sounds complicatedd

  • This is BEAUTIFUL

  • This performance gives me tingles!

  • I love her as Marta, personally.

  • wow... she sounds like she loves it, shes not spazzing over it because thats not her marta but she really sounds like she loves

  • yea, makes her interpretation a bit frightening which makes me love it even more. provides such a great contrast to robert and everyone else

  • Isn't Marta supposed to hate the city? The song seems to be more negative than positive to me...

  • NO NO NO! Marta is IN LOVE with NYC... she basically represents the city in this musical.

  • I think that's the purpose. I was just thinking that, the song actually sounds pretty crazy, sad, and happy... New York's positives are its negatives, in a way. Everyone knows

  • i really loved her in this part, and yeah they did lower the key because she is a belter. Its just a sign of the times because a voice like pamela myers (which i love) now just doesn't translate to todays audiences as a free spirit. i think theyre both great.

  • Cool/jazzy rendition here but LaChanze's version from the 1995 revival sounds better and is truer to the original.

  • I actually think she does sound like LuPone.

  • OMG thsi sounds way much muhc much better than the CD.

  • I LOVE this version, she is my absolute favorite!

  • she's great

  • Yes, she's amazing in this.

  • AMAZING! Anyone feel she sounds a bit like Lupone?! i thought so, Angel is fabulous!

  • I don't think she sounds like LuPone. Her diction, while not perfect, is much better than LuPone's. I do agree that she's fabulous. I don't know if I like her or Pam Myers better.

  • Angel does a nice job, but Pam Myers' version is untouchable. To try to beat it would be like trying to rewrite Shakespeare.

  • She is some thin'

  • also nice editing job in the middle. You are awsome

  • Aw, shucks. Thanks.

I updated the description to describe why I edited the video - and where.

  • I can't believe I just wrote "the description to describe..." Sorry. You get the idea.

  • This is the first song I fell in love with from Company. I can't believe I got to see this live. Thanks for posting
