If I recall, this was version two? The first version you had your ukes hanging on the wall. I think that was at your old house before moving to Sint Nik??
I feel sad when I see the Hunt 3K. IMO The Martin 3K truly is possibly the finest ukulele ever made. It's a shame you don't have one now. This is the only missing link in your collection.
And the D5K had yet to arrive? Perhaps you should make a public video on the D5k? Educate the masses.
So very nice -- If you ever need some respite (looking after all those ukes must be a burden sometimes) I'd be happy to look after one or two of them for you for a little while -- just let me know.
Amazing collection Mr. Wininboy! My favorites are 3M and 3K. Have You ever had change to try those Dreadnought 3´s by Ditson? I would like to own one of those.. Thanks for this great video! ***** from Igor
Nah, the dreadnaught ukes just have one or two millimetres extra at the waist, that's all. The rest is completely and utterly identical to regular Martin ukuleles, so it's kinda hard to notice the difference, indeed.
Wowsers! they're gorgeous! i've got 2 Martins and i don't play anything else since i got them. Hooked is right! What strings do you use for them? Thank you for posting this Mister. You're still my ukulele hero by the way :)
Although I'm quite the snob when it comes to ukes, I use any string I can get my hands on. In these parts, that would be regular Martin for D tuning. I recently tried the Worths, which are really good, but I wore them out quite quickly and they started buzzing. Now I use the new Martin strings, which are a bit thicker and create more tension when tuned to D, but they sound real nice. I have bought a couple sets, so those'll be ones I'm using these next few years.
Watching this video it suddenly occurred to me that you may have provided an answer to life's most important question. You make it clear that we were put here on this planet to accumulate as many old Martin ukes as possible. This is our purpose! Yes!
;)
Seriously though...
Amazing collection of wonderful old ukuleles. Those ukes are lucky to have someone who cherishes them as you do. And I love that Johnny Marvin/Aileen Stanley duet. Goosebumps.
Als ze maar mogen meespelen, dan zijn ze er als de kippen bij, maar zodra hun vader meer naar zijn ukuleles begint te kijken dan erop te spelen, zijn ze weg.
Yes, Fred, I remember this video well.

@BeareTube I have owned 3 different 3K's, but I did not manage to hang on to any of them. Do you happen to have a spare 3K somewhere? ;)

It'd make me very happy if you'd come and try 'em all out!
And show me a few tips and tunes while you're here, of course.

thanks very much for the offer! (it'll just take me a few years to rise the fare). All the best.

I can never get tired of looking and watching soprano Martin ukuleles. One day, you will show especially for me, in real ! Ok ?

Anytime, Krouk!
Anytime.
Always welcome to try them all out.

Too much ukuleles for one person! Think of Victrola how she could be happy with just ONE of them ... just one!
jolieuke 2 years ago
And you are absolutely right, Victrola. What's more, you'd get a lot of great music out of these, I know!
Fortunately, there's more than enough old Martin ukes around for everyone to enjoy.
Yoohoohoo!!

Thanks, Igor! Collecting these old things can be addictive, no?
And yes, Ditsons are my favourite too, so my style 3 is a dreadnaught, indeed. You can hear me noodling about on it elsewhere on my channel.
wininboy 2 years ago
Oops! It´s dreadnought, I didn`t noticed that before :D somehow I thought that bodyshape is more differend that on those 8-shaped martins...

Fabulous video, Dr. Ditson! Your collection is very cool, with only mahogany Ditsons and koa Martins. Beautiful!
And yes, a sound comparison would be great.

Yes, lovely old corny tune, although the ukulele is curiously absent??!!
Since we didn't take the time to enjoy these ukes together in person, I thought you might appreciate this video, Terry.
But we'll make up for it next time, right?
Right?

Waarom mochten de meisjes deze keer niet meedoen...

Wow. How old is the 5K? Lovely collection. I'd love to hear a sound comparison. (I own 1 style 0)
UKISOCIETY 2 years ago
Yessir, a sound comparison would be fun!
I guess the 5K is about 80-85 years old.
Congrats on the style 0!! Isn't it just the greatest?
wininboy 2 years ago
Again, WOW! That 5k looks brand-new! Yes, my Style 0 is amazing. Can't date it but probably from 60's..?
UKISOCIETY 2 years ago
Thanks. The 5K looks wonderful, indeed.
Is your style 0 stamped "Made in the USA"? A "Made in the USA" 1960's style 0 incidently was the very first Martin ukulele I ever played.
As you can tell, I was hooked there and then... Amazing little ukes! Love 'em!!!
Again, congratulations!
(Also, keep posting those vids. I'm enjoying them every time.)
