AWA was a dying organization... and the IC title was almost always placed in the midcard (Hart/Bulldog lone exception I believe). As far as I know he never main evented a WWF or WCW PPV. That's the pure definition of midcarder... which isn't a shot against him. If he would've stayed healthy I couldn't imagine Vince avoiding a Bret/Perfect WWF title feud sometime after Hogan left.
