One of the biggest mistakes the USSR made was to boycott the UNSC in 1950. Had they been present, they could have vetoed the resolution for imperialist intervention in Korea, and Korea could have become a united Socialist state. The division of Korea was incredibly stupid, because the north is a barren, mountainous region with no resources and little farmland. Under siege as it is now, it means poverty and food shortages are inevitable. A united Socialist Korea wouldn't have this problem.

Why don't you go and fuck yourself... North Korea was the industrialized part following the Japanese occupation. It also had far more resources such as coal and gold. In 1950, North Korea's GNI per capita was twice as high as South Korea, and North Korea was richer than South Korea until 1974.

So your thing about how North was destined to be poor is a load of bullshit. North is poor because it chose all the wrong policies. South would be too, if it lost the Korean War.

@cpsunnyrain. You do realize that one of the biggest holdups to a ceasefire was that so many chinese POWs didn't want to go back. The Chinese were insisting they be sent back and Truman thought it was wrong. eventually, they settled on nobody had to go back unless they wanted and thousands of chinese stayed a couple of michael moores stayed in china.

my grandfather served for over 30 years in the US army and fought and lived through this war. told me some crazy stories of 3 foot rats festing on dead soldiers which they later had to use the flamethrowers to clear out bunkers filled with them.

A. Somehow the Koreans from the North were using Guns (From USSR).

B. Somehow China was Supporting North Korea.

C. Somehow the Koreans fought.

D. Somehow all of a sudden there are two Korean Governments.

B. The USSR broke Alliance compact with the United States and Took over Korea.

MacArthur was a genius to land at Inchon and should have been given total freedom of action and support for his plans. Instead, the American government took the cowards way out with a compromise 'solution' similar to in Vietnam. Modern American military policy is based on appeasement of enemies rather than victory over them. As the years go on, apathy grows. Patton must be having a fit of cussing and yelling in his grave.
