My opinion is that, even if this game is based in a real place, and real events, you can´t just search for a logical or direct explanation. As a japanese game it is, you just have to feel it: feel the story of each character, feel each noise and every dark room. That´s how you will love Silent Hill series.

@jofrenegger I like how it's based off a real place and real events, though. The town Silent Hill is based off Centralia, West Virginia, but the events are based off the events of Centralia, Pennsylvania. It's weird that the towns are both Centralia.

I read a lot of comments that the movie sucked. How far from the trueth is that? Quite a bit. In my opinion, it is the best game to movie translation I have ever seen. It truely captures the spirit of the game.

Also, I like the movie's theme of motherhood (I won't go further to spoil those who have not seen it), so I am glad it took its own story. By the way, why would I want a carbon copy of the game when I know all the plot twists?

Making a movie that follows the exact same plot as a video game is really pointless... stories do not translate well in different types of mediums. If they are going to make a good SH than all they should do is find a new plot that takes place in the same setting. That way a new audience and old time game players can enjoy it.

I agree that they couldn't have made it exact from an old game, but it would've been nice if they'd kept the psychological stuff the same. I mean, turning the snow into ash? Sure, creepy for anything else-- but I didn't like the fact that they'd changed it. Just small stuff like that's really important.

Actually, it's ash in the game. It's ash because what's falling from the sky is white claudia in the first game. Which is why Silent Hill is manifested like it is.

it makes sense to have it ash, though, since it's based on Centralia, Pennsylvania. There's an underground coal fire there burning out of control and here you find it's caused due to burning Alessa. It makes sense for ash to be falling since...snow and fire don't really mix. I think for the context it does make sense is all :)

That and the movie makes a bit more sense the way it is. The game is amazing and the movie is good.. All there really is to it.

if the movie stayed Too close to the game, the ending would be expected by the audience. So, slight alters like: a different protagonist, changing from cheryl to sharron, & adding pyramid head, made the movie a little more original.

& the directors were originally going to have the dad look for sharron, but apparently people complained: "there are not enough female characters." & now, there were only 2 main guys, & a few minor male parts haha.

i totally agree with you jaytee1792. the silent hill movie had lots of potential due to its setting: they could have achieved something great if they had created a new story in the s.h. universe instead of simply mixing a few plots out of the games together. there is also the possibility that the theme works only as a game, where immersion is far more easily and deeply achieved. oh... and try not to spoil the game plot for newcomers ;)

I think one of the flaws was the the movie was completely misunderstood by those who never played the games. I thought they did an ok job with the storyline, but could have done way better. But i agree the probably should have had a new story that went along with the silent hill theme. But the one thing they need to do is put Room Of Angel in the next one, that would be AWSOME!!!
