BIG BOSS, because his character development far surpassed solid snakes. From MGS3, he had an internal conflict between what was right and what had to be done. His loyalty to his country, or to his old mentor. Then you see how he still was struggling through MGS PO and Peace walker while trying to see what path was right. then you see how he becomes the character he is in MG and MG2. Then he gets the best ending of all the characters in MGS4. Naked snake for the win
