@merolo12 He's Simon Philips, one of the best drummer in the world. This is his style, there aren't mistake at 0:56, his fill in it's perfect, it could't sound good for you, but nothing it's wrong.
@smilzomagro ok, but I felt a thing like a song's end, and is not perfect for Gimour's solos! In fact, this is the first time I've see this drummer. Why?!
@merolo12 probably because you're not used to listening to drummers like him, especially in a piece of Pink Floyd. The fact that you have never heard it before does not mean anything, a musician is not a star, but I can assure you, because I play drums for 20 years, he is absolutely one of the best.

I don't agree James, I would say that God has everything to do with it! It's not called a God given Talent for nothing. But, if you don't believe in God...then that's cool! Yes Clapton, Knopfler, Hendrix, Gary Moore, Brain May, Rod Price...I love it all as well!! :)
Well...I wouldn't say that I just saw GOD playing the guitar. What I did see was a very talented David Gilmour playing one of the best guitar solo's I have heard! The man is exquisitely talented...and GOD really doesn't make them like that any longer! I keep praying for another Hendrix, Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher. I haven't seen one or heard one yet....so I'll just keep on praying!!
He plays it quite boring sometimes. I thought I'd found a couple of covers that were better than the original.....then I found this. The king regains his crown. That drummer's blistering as well.
That is so slack.... Who sent this link to the 4 Justin Bieber fans???? No wonder they disliked it, they've never heard REAL music before. It must've hurt their under developed ears. Poor losers!!!!!
Those where the days! When musicians actually could play!!! I take comfort to that i´m not gonna live forever. Go listen to Justin b or the babelin rap-shit!! Makes me puke....
Todays bands have no creativity, no growth in music experimentation and knowledge. Todays bands are simple chords, simple lyrics, simple musical themes. The greatest bands are from 30, 40 years ago. Its sad what the music industry has done to itself, and it artists chasing the the smash hit, and quick profit.
@LYoder3 there are absolutely bands today just as good as any in history. arcade fire, sigur ros, dispatch, radiohead, fleet foxes, etc, are all hugely innovative, creative, and influential with musicians just as good as any in the last 60 years.
if you pay attention to the top 40, of course you're not going to find anything worthwhile.
@LYoder3 I don't think it's the bands that are the problem, I think it's recording on computers. As much as they have enhanced are lives, computers are diminishing the quality of music by their very nature.
@LYoder3 THAT is not true at all.... I agree Pink Floyd being one of the finest bands ever, however, there are still other good bands coming out nowadays, coming up with nice creative output aswell, it is just hidden, because it is not favoured by the music industry, but it's there... Not to mention the growing amount of people becoming ever better instrumentalists! Good music will return and even in mainstream, you find a gem every here and there, so look ahead into a BRIGHT FUTURE, not back!
@sharan696 Well, I don't :P Believe me, Pink Floyd is my favorite Band, lately I listened to outrageous amounts of albums, but what I meant is like when I sometimes browse YT, I discover talents everywhere... And looking at myself, I'm a fanatic guitarist and one of these days, I will have my own Prog band :) I was just disagreeing that today's music is total crap, because it isn't...
@RitchieDiamond There is always room for improvement. Nevertheless, there will also always be maestros....perfectionists of their art if you will.....and David Gilmour is well practiced and I believe has certainly mastered his art. Doubtless others will join him in the Pantheon of Greats, but to still have a musical influence after nearly 50 years is very rare in these modern times of fickle youth. More to say but not enough characters to say it with...anyway nuff said Mr gilmour 1 o the greats
@LYoder3 by the way there are bands like opeth, porcupine tree, tool, orphaned land they are awesome ..they are inspired by the bands of 70s and 80s...do hear them.. :)
@sabyspeaksonline The music industry is in its death throws, the Internet has created a new venue for "artists'". I praise Google Music/Player for giving me the chance to have my music heard. They merely charge a one time fee ($25) for life, allowing musicians the unique opportunity to have a place post their music forever (granted that they do take 30% of the cut for maintenance). It has inspired me to bring back to life my favorite Black Sabbath songs, albeit loosely covered by myself.
@LYoder3 the rock and metal scene are kind of dead now at days... but the indie scene with the arctic monkeys or the white stripes, they are very experimental. it's sad that metalcore bands and shit are destroying the metal scene. they all sound the same and they are more famous than great bands like in flames or those indie bands i called befor.
@harnois75 jezus- this is the same exact thing I was thinking too.. hell yes. bring the big half time beat with the false ending at the beginning- ride the crash after the fill. YESSSSSS
Loved you in the 70's, and I still love you. Thank you for all these years you guys kept me young.Missed the ones that left us...rock on guys in heaven. love from Abadan, Iran.
I think his playing on Earls court is better but still, he's the fuckin man, no one can touch him. Clapton seems like nothing compared to this guy imo
Now flip over and check out Confortably Numb at Knebworth Live 1990. They closed out the concert with Gilmour playing this solo in pouring rain, You see the rain hitting the guitar while he just makes the guitar scream. Not going to argue which solo is better, think we all agree that this is the finest guitar solo ever no matter where and when it is played.
There is not anyone who can 'stretch some strings' like Mr Gilmour, I saw his play Comfortably Numb on top of The Wall at Earls Court, that is something I will never, ever, forget. Just brilliant, the man is a genius.
@rclobo1980 Yep, the comment below is correct - Colombian Volcano Disaster benefit concert at the Royal Albert Hall, 9th Feb 86, Simon Phillips on drums, Chucho Merchan (who organised the concert) on bass, Jody Linscott on percussion, Rabbit (John Bundrick) on keys and Mick Ralphs on 2nd guitar. I was the stage manager. Dave's beautiful playing brought tears to my eyes on the night and to this day still does.
Two throw in my two cents to the 'what guitar' debate. I believe it's a Charvel (You can just make out the Charvel logo at 1:16). This style of single humbucker non floyd guitar was common from Charvel in the 70s / early 80s and were of impeccable quality. It's a very very nice guitar.
Thanks God, I have lived the best times.....what a rubbish cold senseless music we are having now adays ....with my all respect for the new generation!!!
@SkyValleySpaceCadet : I like the way u thinking, positive, for certain extend I agree, but back in 80's 90's the album to just being classified as a hit all the tracks (10 or so) each one of them must be a HIT!!!! while nowadays u should really look hard to find a track which might come along with u!!! Wrong. Playing solo means without other band members. Playing a solo or soloing means a featured instrumental performance.
