I used to have a lhasa mix I taught to do this myself, he was a pro. But my new puppy can't do it! Help! she seems like she was abused when she was little and is so shy of doing threw my legs like I'm going to hit her or something. Shes a boston/rat mix. How can I get her to not be so shy? I've had her since she was 3 and a half months, now shes nine months. I work w/her a lot.

cool! I started this today with my dog before I hit youtube. She'll follow lures around my legs and doesn't expect clicks/treats everytime, but I wasn't sure how to fade the signal though. Then I found this video. I didn't think to use your body and leaning as the cue! Awesome! Can't wait until next training session to try it out.

THANK YOU! Just had a 1st lesson on weaving, and it's looking promising already! Will do a little every day! I have a sweet JRT. Lucy. She knows several tricks and loves training. Short attention span for new things, I just do enough to keep her wanting more, repeat a couple times a day till she learns it. We review all tricks often enough to make sure she doesn't forget.

After this, I'm anxious to try walking backward, and then a backward weave. Hope I can do it.

My dog rubs himself against my legs and pretty much does that...just really oddly. I didn't really train him, he's just weird because he randomly started doing that a while ago. So...why does he go in between my legs??

I am a really short person, and my dog is about as high as my hips. I think she feels intimidated by going between my legs. she absolutely won't allow it. I can't even lure her through. Any tips?

Check out the video 'Dog Training Super Stars in Spain' and at 3.13 you can see for a couple of seconds my friend Emi with Meghan doing a version of weaving where she lifts her leg up high as the dog goes under it. This looks really cool and can be used for extra tall dogs and fearful dogs.

Any consistant sound will work. You could even whistle when a dog does something right. It should work fine.

tottaly going to try this! My dog isn't timid, she just doesn't learn quite as fast on some things as on others. I've tried this, but she'd much rather sit still untill I tell her to do somthing else.

..That brings a question.

My dog will often do a trick, though after a while, or at the begining, she'll stop and wait or refuse to do it untill I make her do somthing else that she knows. How can I change that?

Yeah, I had the music too loud, I was trying to drown out the noise of the loud freeway. Its a bit of a brain information overload! I think this is the crappiest of all the videos Ive made, because I just threw it together in a rush. It was taken on a High Def. camera, which made it problematic to edit. So I just gave up and smashed it all together (you can tell). Im not going to use High Def again until I get a new computer...

the music is better than the freeway noise, so you did the right thing. plus for me it added a flow to the video and made the weave training sort of like a dance. you have a talent for movement, and for narration. a training artiste!

Thanks, I've had trouble fading the lure with treats and my dog will do it if I have a toy but he won't do it if I don't have anything. Fading the lure has been tough for me.

I know how it goes! One way to do it is do around 10 reps, and then just stand there. Click or say "yes!" to any slight movement towards going between. Then do a few more easy reps, then just stand and wait, with a hand signal, and throw a big party. It is possible! It's just a matter of treating it like its a whole new trick.

This is a great video! Would you please make one on how to teach weaving backwards through legs? We know the frontwards version and we know how to "back" but are having a really hard time with the backwards weaving! It's harder to lure and target!
