I've read Levon's book and heard all about his fight with Robbie but what stands out in this video and even more so in the music is just how much these guys cared about and appreciated one another. They were, are and always will be brothers.
It is baffling to me why Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Band never had a song that went #1 on the U.S. Billboard. The highest CCR's songs ever went was #2. It is a big crime and waste because both CCR and The Band had better Songs in 1969 and 1970 a lot better than Other Singers/Groups overrated Songs that went #1 on the U.S. Billboard in 1969 and 1970.
@lapat202: Don't be so defensive. Your Canadian inferiority complex is showing. They play American roots music. You know it and everyone else knows it. Don't be so damn provincial.
@The60sMusicman: Haha, I'm partially Arabic so the beard growth came up early with me (around 15/16), but when I try and let my beard grow long I look like a Muslim terrorist ;D
Sad to think Levon was with Richard Manuel (well, down the hall in the hotel) when the latter committed suicide. It must be bittersweet for him to go through these old tapes.
Well bless you Nathan, it made me cry when I was 14 too...40 years ago. You obviously have good taste and make me happy knowing that the music will be taken care of by folks like you , son.
It's funny. I'm not a musician & I have trouble hearing the instruments separately, but when I got the Endless Highways tribute album, the #1 thing I missed was Levon's drums. Nobody else sounds as good.
Look at Pop Staples rockin' that Jazzmaster!! Haha, I love it. I've seen Levon live several times, but I gotta say nothing compares to Mavis Staples in concert. Holy smokes, the pipes on that woman!
@NathanIsReallyBored I'm 39 and "discovered" The Band when I was 17...and Rockin' Chair never ceases to make me emotional....Richard Manuel was such an amazing guy...
@NathanIsReallyBored And it takes a mature young man to not only be so moved by such beauty, but to also freely admit how it brought tears to your eyes. That shows not only maturity of emotion, it also demonstrates a wisdom rarely found in the splendid youth that Id gladly return to, even if I wasn't as wise at 13 as you. Cheers!

I was a US Navy Sailor back in the early 90s. This song always reminds me of pulling into Norfolk Virgina after 6 months at sea.

@Free1108 I agree. It's great to see Levon being blown away by Richard's singing. Time hasn't faded his admiration.
