Fell in love with this song while watching each week's episode. Love the song; loved the show. Wish I could still watch it. Al did another song for the show that I know of 'cuz I saw the episode. The song is "Since I Fell for You".
this was a great show but ya know it has really (to me anyway) been mostly forgotten... and that is funny because it had Bruce WIllis on it who is a HUGE movie star now. Was this show ever on syndication? It just seems to have fallen off of the earth. They had great chemistry on this show really funny cutting edge direction and dialogue.
@uneedtherapy42 I don't think it's on syndication anywhere in North America, not that I'm aware of anyway. Nowadays people mostly remembers this show for the wrong reason unfortunately for the "Moonlighting" curse. It started great, but ended pretty badly therefore it kind of disappeared.
I wouldn't think so. Sad to say, a lot of older programs are not being shown in syndication. Instead of showing older programs like Moonlighting, there is nothing but reality shows and current day sitcoms that are so unpopular they will end up not having many seasons made. This show is, however, available on DVD. I had also watched this show back in the 80s and it was wonderful. I still like it a lot even though I haven't seen it since then.
@uneedtherapy42 It's now on DVD. As for syndication, hour long shows don't do big just like comedy shows that are 30 minutes. It appeared on Cable a couple of times.
I can't say forgotten because it was one of the most original shows ever. They don't make them like they used to anymore.
Hollywood, if your reading this, please don't fuck up another good 80's show by remaking it like you did with knight rider, miami vice and soon charlies angels.
The show starred Cybill Shepherd with a then relatively unknown Bruce Willis. Both were great with their supporting cast BUT I think this theme song was as much a part of the shows success as the writing and acting.
Ahhh... all the COOL (at heart) people watched this show and recognized its greatness. A classy classic...
One of my top 10 TV theme songs of all time. The total vibe and mood it put you in. Very 80s, dreamy, kind of melancholy, LA, haunting and longing...beautiful!
This is what growing up in the 1980's is all about! I used to watch MOONLIGHTING every Tuesday night, and the theme song is so amazing, even today! I own Seasons One and Two on DVD (I bought the set when it came out), and I will be getting the other 3 seasons to relive my childhood!
One of the rare tv shows which hat a fantastic title song. These were the 80s with a lot of glitz and litte content in mainstream music. I am forever grateful to the person who had the power and taste to chose real music for the openig credits. Al Jarreau: who doesn't love him?! Beautiful choice.
I ache just watching this. Something about this show completely captivated me when I was 12. I was a suburban kid, and this was a completely different world. Seeing men and women interacting in these complex relationships seemed so much more interesting than anything going on in my life. Why would you love somebody you fought with constantly? I didn't understand it completely, but it fascinated me. Love all the night/city scenes in the credits.
@chiefbrody73 I totally agree w/ you. I'd see MOONLIGHTING here and there, but I never really watched this show until the following year in '86 when I was 11 years old, just about the time I had entered middle school. I too, have this...ache; reminiscing of the time when things had suddenly went from a time of good friendship, recess, and playtime to a world of competition, toughness, and a more attention (and attraction) to girls. To me, the theme song was my first love song I ever understood.
Not long ago, I used to think today's shows suck too but I've given many a chance and I actually like some of them very much. I personally love Bones, quite reminiscent of Moonlighting with a touch of The X-Files. For comedies, The Office and 30 Rock are hilarious. Community and Modern Family are not too bad also. The '80s shows will always have a special place in my heart though.
I remember we had a babysitter come every week on the same night Moonlighting was on. I would have been 12 at the time & my mom would have freaked but the 'sitter let me stay up & watch it with her! I still remember the finale!
jeez,i get friggin goose bumbs every single time i listen and watch this theme on youtube, god i swear its one of the best tv series theme song ever! Al jarreau nailed it!
I am 36 years old and i remember watching this tv show when i was just a little boy back in 1985 at 12 years old,i loved it and i admit,i had the biggest crush on maddie(cybil sheperd) and i am a african american man,i had no clue what black and white meant but all i knew is i liked the pretty blonde haired woman that was mean
@d21lewis yeah man,all we got is our memories,we will never see the likes of the 80's era, ever again,in a way,i wish i were older in the 80's,so i could have really took advantage of the night life and everything that was the 80's but there were some things i liked about being a kid in the 80's though. The 80's had something for everyone at every age. The cartoons were awesome for kids,TV shows and movies were great for kids and adults. Everyone just thank God,you still have the memories!!!!!
@morpheousx how dare you look at a white woman with lust! That's OUR property! Didn't you get the handbook?? In an unrelated topic: Al Jerreau can kiss my white ass!
@dkthg I'm sure you were joking and are were just having a bout of "arrested evelopment".
But yes --- we got the handbook, we read it --- but your women just refuse to leave our black 6'2" bald headed manly Mandinka asses alone. Please tell them to LAY OFF. Of course I am joking --- just like you!
