@overbrookXXX Go take your meds, i do not require straitening...you are a fairly new comer to this obviously and are trying to get folks to you by being a total prick to me...frankly I really do not care about this and this is why I deleted you in the first place as far as Don goes I won't bother him with your ranting ,but I will ask all the same.
i own several guitars etc. and play when i can , so now you are the liar ...down me some more ,show the world what you really are.
@overbrookXXX the problem with you is you don't believe anything anyone tells you I would love to see the look on your face if you were to meet what you call poser and far as your twenty something albums...you and a million others ,I personally have 147 albums ,56 CD's and a handful of old tapes and have been a fan since 1969...so your pointless psycho-babble is at an end with me.
Oh yes & for your info. i am in contact with 7 Ventures past and present so guru...perhaps.
Hey I dont want to get in the middle of anything here, but I looked on my Ventures albums and it didnt say who played the lead parts. None of them stated who played lead. The album this song is from is Another Smash, and it doesnt say either.
@overbrookXXX probably from the guy that was lining to you...It's "A lie told a thousand times makes no truth at the last lie" no lie becomes truth...next time you would like to call me a liar ,try saying it to my face...oh. but your too busy hiding behind Nokie's wife and del's books ,I almost forgot.
I meant Nokie. Sorry about that. I was also told by him.
There's lots of people who think Bob played the lead on Rawhide, Trambone, Night Train, etc.. That being said, I did'nt need Nokie to tell me; my ears did.
It's refreshing to know there's someone else who knows the real deal.
They are so seriously talented...imagine, having them have to share the Rock and Rool Hall of Fame with those who neither do not rock, do not roll and have not a grain of sand of talent...I love them and always will, they are classic and timeless!
Nokie Edwards did the lead on this one. Although many people think Bob Bogle did all the leads on the first 4 LPs, Nokie did a few. He also did No Trespassing and Night Train, from the 1st LP.
It is also worth noting that Howard Johnson's drumming is superb here. Having great drummers back to back is a blessing only given to a few bands. Howard Johnson then Mel Taylor to the Ventures then Tony Meehan and Brian Bennett to the Shadows. But then again in Pearl Jam they got Dave Krusen then Dave Abbruzzeese then Jack Irons then Matt Cameron - they seem to get all the great grunge drummers in their ranks! Hehehehehe.....
This was taken from the Ventures 3rd LP "Another Smash!" I used to play this in high school. This tune made me a fan of the Ventures - way back in 1986 - a very young 13year old. Being a fan of the Ramones, Clash, Sex Pistols, The Smiths, The Cure, U2, Wire Train during that time, The Ventures and a host of other 60s bands sounds very Punk and New Wave to me. I play records by The Ventures, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Zombies alongside the other bands mentioned! Great post ulit!
@bpabustan Jonny Ramone also used a Mosrite guitar. That was the signature sound for the Ventures and the Raomones though strangely enough, the guitar was conceived with country music in mind in Bakersfield CA. Jonny liked it because the neck was not very wide and the frets were quite low which fit perfectly for his style of playing the guitar.
the video does not mach the music!

Too wimpy. Ya gotta attack the guitar with your pick to play Link's stuff. Like the Ventures own songs tho, Walk Don't Run, Perfidia etc.

Yes, I like the way Howie Johnson played on the first 4 Ventures Lps. He had a style that fit exactly, like the rolls he does.
