Good point. I think in the post-modernist era (i.e. now) we're accepting that everything is gradated. In the case of sexuality, this means that no one is either a hetero- or homosexual. Instead we each have varying degrees of attraction to various aspects of other people, be they physical or not. So, when people say "I'm a heterosexual," it's to be understood that the aspects they find attractive are more frequently found in the opposite sex.
