Yes - I started him... this is the "starting process" you are seeing. I always begin with ground work (loose in round pen) then when the horse is ready, move to the saddle. This video was taken within the first 30 days of riding on this colt.

This is a 3 year old stallion, though, and not a mare... He is sired by our senior stallion YOR High Noon. There is a bridle-less reining video on you-tube of him or you can see it at our website at reining-appaloosa dot com

No, there are few modern Appaloosas with "short" or sparse tails anymore.
This colt is only coming-3 years old in this video, so his tail is not short for that age of horse.
