I wonder if it's 'name' association that makes a piano by a 'Detroit' producer sound less cheesy. I know there is the element of raw talent, but there is plenty of that elsewhere. Sometimes I catch myself being a Detroit snob, yet I don't know the place, never been and unlikely to ever make it there. Detroit's a feeling (fo-sho!), but sometimes that feeling isn't for a better musical structure or sound, but for snobbery! Marketing to snobs, it bothers me that I pander to it.
