Boston, North Shore, South Shore, Cape, Central, Western. 6 Massachusetts accents. And subsets in each of those. Some people can actually tell what town you live in just from how you say certain words or how you phrase things. This goes for pretty much EVERY accent in American English. What they (television) decided is the 'baseline' American accent?: Midwest (Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin)
also, on the FYI tip, if an out of towner ever asked me to say "park the car in harvard yard" they'd be looking for their teeth over on Queer Street. sorry..."Queeah Street."
everybody's making a big deal acting like the idea of you having a Boston accent is a joke. anyone whose actually from Boston knows that not everyone from Boston speaks with the "pahhk the cahh". that's just the epitome of the boston accent. on top of that, the boston accent isn't all about "pahhk the cahh"...that's just what it's most famous for. there's a lotttt of other little things
i can definitely see a tint of the boston accent in your voice yeah.
I could've heard it better if you didn't have music playing. You say ow'uh = hour and Bawstin like I do and I'm from Taunton, MA. Other than that, the music, I couldn't make it out. I don't pronounce R's, but sometimes put R's where they don't belong. Like arsk = ask. Larst - last. And I was born and raised 40 miles south of Boston.
HAHAHAHAHA I actually started to smile when i was listening to him. To people from not Ma. it sound to them like we all have an accent, but to us from around here u don't.
You've picked up how people from MA/New England say "Boston" with that lovely softer o sound for the intial o, but that's it. You don't have it at all otherwise. Why would someone presumably not from MA who's now moved to NC be qualified to judge if it's a Boston accent? She's probably just heard some adjustments to your speech and subconsciously assumed that it must be a Boston accent because you're near Boston and a lot of us speak "neutrally" - e.g. Damon and Affleck for outsiders.
You don't. We just can't tell where the fuck to put our R's. We subtract them from words like 'car' and some people just tack them right on to words like 'idea.'
I live in New Hampshire where a lot of people have a new england accent, which is basically the same thing as a boston accent, and i don't hear one at all in this video..
I'm from around Boston and have lived here all my life. And I have to say you don't have a Boston accent to my ears you sound southern. But you pronuce your r's so you don't have a Boston accent.
Im in Fitchburg ,MA and you do not have our accent... tell her to "getovait" one word four syllables "get over it" for the people of the world that need more -= letta's=- to communicate....
Nah, you really don't. Not that I can hear anyway. But, that said, I live all the way down in Maryland. And I don't have a full on accent, but I do inflect a couple words really heavily. Like "awn" for "on", "foiine" for "fine", and "ahranges". I was JUST informed of this xDD
I don't hear a Boston accent but you have some accent. That being said I grew up an hour from Boston and have one of the thickest Boston accents around so you never know.
No accent. Your voice might've changed a bit, which isn't unheard of, but you have too much of the "r" in your voice. Instead of argument, it woulda sounded like "ahgument" , etc.
im from ma too and your dialect is simalar to mine. but ive been auditioning for college recently and people always ask if im from boston because of my accent.
you have to say some new england phrases like "get out of here" aka "getadahea" and how do you say "retarded" cause then we could really tell, im a fellow New Englander (new hampshire) and you sound like you have a slight accent but its not that bad.
you posted this so long ago but i'll still tell you that i don't think you have a boston accent.. "computerrrrrrr.... arrrrrguments" there was way too much R sounds in those words.. western mass maybe.. but not in or around the city

@kristophyne My best friend is from Jersey and he sounds nothing like him. I say daw'da = daughter... Jersey says door'der. I say Waw'da = water. Jersey Woor'der. I don't hear a Jersey accent at all.
I live very close, and no you don't. If your friends don't live near Boston than there probably not use to it so they just say you have the Boston accent, I would know almost everyone who I live with and knows has one.
you live 1 1/2 outside boston. i live like less than half an hour away in a North Shore city and alot of ppl have it. They have the accent big time in Swampscott, Beverly, Danvers, Peabody, Saugas, & Salem
The way you said "developed" is Bostonian. Definitely. You said "duh-velupped." Other than that, not really.
If you look at my videos, I have no sign of an accent as far as I know. My friend who moved to Alabama 4 years ago seems to think otherwise. You be the judge.

Living in southie my whole life and hearing just this video i can say you dont have an accent not anywhere near the kind i have and people around here have. So id say no
You had to have grown up here to really have a "true" Boston accent. There are only a few Hollywood actors that can pull off the accent, for instance, Alec Baldwin in the "Departed" sounded totally forced. We can easily sniff out somebody trying to pull it off. It is not just about dropping the R'S in your sentences. By the way , you have NO Boston accent, nor would anybody living an hour away from the city. GO SOX!!!!!!!
No Way man... trust me i'm from massachusetts, I don't have much of an accent though (unfortunently) but i go to boston alot and there is no accent there, you need to pronounce your r's like ah, for example Nomar is Nomah
you sound like someone from sienfield.. or just someone generally in the new york area or where ever the baseball team Cubs are from. thats your accent. :)
its probably the audio quality, but it seems like something's funky with your nasals...like sometimes it sounds like you have a cold and sometimes it sounds like you're being too nasal. but that's not really boston. i didn't hear anything definitely bostony... heck, maybe she's comparing you to southern speakers and noticed something different.
no i have an accent listen to my videos because i am from maine!!!

you sound like someone from sienfield.. or just someone generally in the new york area or where ever the baseball team Cubs are from. thats your accent. :)

Definitely zero accent whatsoever. Meanwhile, why do you want people NOT from MA to respond? They wouldn't know what a genuine accent sounds like.
Anyway, at least you're not one of those people who fake an accent; it's obvious and annoying.

You don't even sound like you're from anywhere in New England to me. You've got a hell of a long way before you're saying "larr enfoacement."

its probably the audio quality, but it seems like something's funky with your nasals...like sometimes it sounds like you have a cold and sometimes it sounds like you're being too nasal. but that's not really boston. i didn't hear anything definitely bostony... heck, maybe she's comparing you to southern speakers and noticed something different.
