If this farm is anything like ones I've seen, the machine in the background is used to hold the turkey still when he cuts its neck. The turkey was probably shaking for the same reason chickens with their head cut off run around. In other words, it looks worse than it is.

What is that machine anyways? My parents have chopped a turkeys head off before but we just used the old knife or axe to do it. This method on the video looks like a much slower process.
Looks like a wood chipper to me. Personally, I think the hammer and axe method is much more efficient. Stun them with the hammer, and then chop the head off. Not this stuffing it into a machine. That looks inefficient, overly painful, and much more messy than I'd ever want do that.

This was a bizarre interview - supposedly Palin was a journalism student and in TV and should have known that the set-up for her interview was critical. (fyi - The turkey was not actually 'stuffed' into a machine - (I took poultry sci in college) - it was being bled out (a part of the brain is destroyed and the throat cut). Listening to Sarah Palin saying "this was fun" and watching the bird die is unbelievable. Guess that turkey wasn't lucky enough to be pardoned.

What is that machine anyways? My parents have chopped a turkeys head off before but we just used the old knife or axe to do it. This method on the video looks like a much slower process.

Looks like a wood chipper to me. Personally, I think the hammer and axe method is much more efficient. Stun them with the hammer, and then chop the head off. Not this stuffing it into a machine. That looks inefficient, overly painful, and much more messy than I'd ever want do that.
