Rhode Island reds are very hardy chickens. They don't require really extravagant care, and if they are free range then they don't require much feeding either, able to get most of their needed nutrients from bugs and plants.

I have a Rhode Island red hen, Gladys, who I raised from a hatchling. I love her! :D
