@bnizzio Yeah, it's great on piano, an all time classic & all that, but it doesn't quite kick ass on piano. To have it kick some ass it needs the invention of electric guitar. The question is do you want to kick some ass or not ? The whole history of hard-rock guitar, no matter how complicated it gets, is basically at bottom about kicking more ass than music by other methods & that's why in the category of using the medium of music to convey an ass-kicking electric guitar reigns supreme.
@metamorphosis67 Gotta disagree wholeheartedly. Ron for me is #1, the greatest and most diverse artist I've ever heard. but this tune is better as it's intended, on the piano. Not that this version isn't incredible... just that that it doesn't reach the dizzying heights of what Chopin intended.
@Hardysamnin Dizzying heights? Dude, what does dizzying heights have to do with kicking ass? Dizzying heights is good but ass-kicking surely also has a purpose in human existence, no? ha ha ha. It's only because ass-kicking has a function in human evolution that hard-rock guitar even exists. You could say some written poetry kicks ass if someone can understand it & it's true but the whole function of hard-rock of any sort is to amplify poetry & drill it into the souls of the masses.
Weak and fizzy? BS, this tone kicks ass. I think it fits the piece perfectly and it suits what Bumblefoot does in general. It's unique, but goofy, and it also suits many styles of guitar playing. ITts a great tone and it's far from weak or fizzy.
And I swear. If I see one more crappy band with generic 0-8 riffs and crappy tritone breakdowns dare to call themselves the next big thing, I'll piss all over their homes.
This is dood is incredible. I hate to say it though, but I'm really not a fan of this. I guess I'm just old fashion but I love this piece on just piano. Props to this cat though. At least he knows how to actually play music unlike all those metalcore faggots.
@Scratch47 Thats so typical bumblefoot, my gf always says, wow this guy cant play for shit hes just hitting his fingers on the guitar... Well Darling, if u would know ANYTHING u would realize that Ron Thal is probably one of the best guitarists and musicians that will ever walk this planet....
Ive never senn or heard him play a note that wasnt inteded to be exactly where it is...
@HastOsth Some people don't understand atonal playing - when they get it's deliberately designed to shock the listener with joyous, alien sounds they've never heard before their tune (ba-doom) might change. Besides, when did listening to something you've never heard before become such an unspeakable act? Anyway, this is Chopin at the core, and if you can't appreciate that, I pity your taste.
@Scratch47 I think u misunderstood me, my girlfriend says its crap, i always try to make her understand the pure genoiusness behind compositions like this and this one in particular. Personally i love both chopin and Bumblefoot. Ive listened to him since the mid 90´ and for me there isnt a better musician out there. Its like Mr guthrie govan says, if u want to see a genious on guitar dont look at me look at ron thal... :)
where did you get this photo? I know where and when it was taken cause I was there. Ron came and played in my booth for me since I was working for that company at the time. Dam pictures changed. I'm talking about the opening photo
every time i hear him sweep all i hear is little jeff loomis bits haha (they both like to use diminished arpeggios i guess). I know we argued earlier, but musicians should be able to get along. And please, upload yourself playing, i've been meaning to record the first 3 min of far beyond the sun for a bajillion years (can't memorize the 4th solo haha). Hope we can be friends, i was just pissed earlier because i didn't get my sleep. After venting on my guitar im fine now.
This burns my ears to listen to. It may not be the reason Immuntocrap2 hates it, but I can't stand it because of how it destroyed the original song... in fact... this ISN'T the song.
Songs like this make me sad. . . Chopin is my hero and I bet no one from here really looked into him until after they heard a remake; his life was tragic, and from his music came emotion. This is not that song. This song is a cheap mock of the notes.
@ekat06 I'm really sorry that you cant hear the emotion in this, cause you're missing out. And why does it matter HOW we got exposed to a genius like Chopin? I, for one, am very glad that MY hero, Bumblefoot, introduced me to such a spectacular composer like Chopin. You should be glad that musicians in other, more current, genres are making Chopin more accessible to music lovers of all kinds. Chill the fuck out.
@ibanezbloke...another absolutely '''amazing''' bumblefoot song not on his albums was ''love soup''' on guitar for the practising musicians vol 3 I believe...and I lloaned iout (and never got back) a ''long version of guitars suck'' with ron in a spanish voice intro...man where can i get that??...i need to know ,,any ideas?
Once you have reached a certain level on an instrument, the who is better than who arguement is obsolete. These arguements are laughable. It's down to personal preference not who can out shred who. How do you define it? Who is fastest?
He is most likely second in the world - right after Matthias IA Eklundh.
I Guess Ron would say so himself ^^
By the way....he sang as a guest and played a fretless-Guitar-solo for Eklundhs Band (Freak Kitchen). The Name of the song is "speak when spoken to". You can see Ron in the Video too ^^
However...Bumblefoot is a monster. I think both him and Eklundh have surpassed Vai, Satriani, Petrucci and the likes by far.
well...i iknow ^^ I have heard some of this stuff before. And actually i really like it. And if i would want to make a good nlist, there would be about 10-20 more names on it ^^
@TheVergile - Ironically, i only heard of Bumblefoot via Guthrie. He plays a fretless solo on Guthrie's album version of Rhode Island Shred and it's amazing. Funny how guys like those 2 are pretty much unknowns. Well it's not funny......it's actually kinda sad that they dont get the credit they truely deserve.
Yes I understand that. Paul Gilbert and Petrucci are some of the greatest guitarists on the planet, Eklundh though, I will give him this, has the greatest ear for tone and note that I have ever seen.
@TheVergile LOL. Thumbs Fuckin Down. Mattias Eklundh's shit is easy. He fucks around with a whammy bar and taps.. Thats like saying Bucketheads shit is hard (im sure youre a fan so let me explain, 8 finger tapping and brief knowledge of shredding is all you need to know to play any of his shit). The most uneducated thing ive heard in a while. Petrucci, better.
1. i am -as i have mentioned - more a DT-Fan, than i am a fan of Eklunhdh.
2. if you say eklundhs shit is easy you obviously are no guitarist. Period. ^^
Seriously - its a lot more easy to play a Dream theater or Symphony X song, than playing eklundhs stuff.
3. knowing how techniques work isnt the same as actually being able to play ^^ If you say "fucks around with whammy bar and taps" and "8 finger tapping and a brief knowledge of shredding" it sounds like knowing it would make it easier ^^
@Omega1987 If I'm not mistaken, we're thinking of the same album. I think that "Ominous..." was an album put together by Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records to promote their young talent.
