Lucky you! We had another outage for a few hours a couple of weeks ago. Our high-speed Internet acess was all good. I think the problem is that I live in a high-density area and their gateway gets over subscribed.
@chvrles That sucks, I guess here in Iowa we don't have enough subscribers to cause that. I have had a few times that I had internet but the phone system was down, but I reset my router and it came back on just fine. Since then I have upgraded to an Apple Time Machine and have not had a single problem with any of my devices connecting.
It is nice that most folks have a good experience. I have Ooma for about two years. I got lucky and my first hardware failure was in less than a year. Overall the service has been unreliable. The latest was I could only make 1 800 and 1 866 calls. No local or long distance. It took them weeks to fix it. The customer service response time ranges between 48 - 72 hours - than they ask you the same questions over and over.
If you don't have a cell phone - this isn't for you. You can't trust it.
@chvrles Hmm....I am 2 years in now and I can honestly say that everything depends on your internet connection. After 2 years, I can say that I like using a standard phone over their Telo Handset as the range isn't the best, but as for the service, nothing but great things to say. It only goes out when my internet goes out...as with any other Voip service.
@chvrles So weird, because unless my internet is out...I have never yet had a problem...not in the almost 2 years of owning it. To each their own...but it was the smartest decision ever to rid myself of a home phone bill...that said, I agree that it should not be your only phone!
@mushroomhill When you purchase the unit, you setup your account online using the information on the box. Once that it done, you get a phone number for your box. If you wish to port an existing number, it takes a few weeks, at which time you will swap your old one for the one that you registered with the box.
I looked everywhere for reviews and videos for the Ooma Telo. I found that yours was actually the most helpful out of all that research. You should work for them, lol. Anywho- I bought mine about 4 Months ago, best purchase ever. Easy to install, clear sound and very cheap. Thanks for the video.
Just a note on Ooma, there is a 5000 minute a month limit to their service, Skype also has a limit as does Vonage. So if you need the service to work from home like my wife does you only get 2.75 hrs service a day, and she requires 8 or more. So in other words looks like its POTS for work at home call center personnel. Or multiple Skype accounts, too bad Skype sucks so bad.
@fritze01 Ooma is a service for residential customers and small business owners and was not intended for call centers. They do have a 5000 minute outgoing limit, as with most other VoIP service do, but they enforce it on a case by case basis and say they will not terminate a user if the calls were made for residential purposes. I would say if you were running a call center, look elsewhere!
@vongminds Sounds like the phone number isn't setup right. Either that, or there is just something wrong. Haven't had that problem, I would contact Ooma!
@erminthon Yes, but that is only for the second instant line. If you have an Ooma Telo Handset with the Ooma Premier service, you can actually make 2 phone calls at the same time from the Telo Handset and another handset in the house. Without the Premier service, the instant second line is incoming only and can only be reveived if you have an Ooma Telo Handset paired with your Ooma Telo. Nice and complicated but basically if you buy one of their handsets, you can receive 2 calls at the same time
According to the OOMA setup manual the setup you have should not even be working! They say you have to disconnect the incoming phone line from to the house and then connect the Telo.
@RLHoldenSr I do not have the incoming lines connected actually. While the phone lines do have power, they are disconnected from our local phone provider. From there, jacking into the Ooma works flawlessly!
@techgooch I did some more research and found that you can hook the base phone of a wireless set to the OOMA Telo and stay off the phone grid entirely! I just have to say that the OOMA instructions are AWFUL! They need to revise them ASAP or I think a lot of the units will be returned by frustrated customers.
Thanks for the input, saw one of these again today wasn't sure about 6 months ago about the investment, kinda helped sell me on the idea. Would you happen to know if you get a lot of telemarketers on it after 2 years of service, or is there a way to keep your line unlisted to avoid those annoying calls?

@techgooch Roger that, but it sucks as some state Unlimited access yet there are limits, thanks for the reply and the great review.
