Obviously the interviewer hasn't listend to accents very closely (or even paid much attention in the movie), clearly in the movie the guy has an Irish accent, and even if you don't read accents well, it makes it more than obvious in the movie that he's Irish (his last name is Connely for freakin sake).
The Irish, Welsh,Scots and English are all British, because it's the British Isles...
Scotland, Wales and England make up Great Britain (because it's the physically bigger one) , but all the islands are part of the British Isles, a name of Celtic origin, from when us Celts had the whole thing (I'm Welsh)... then the Romans/Vikings/French/Germans all piled in and made England.
No, saying British is NOT legit. It is actually offensive to most Irish people to call them British. From Wikipedia:
"The term 'British Isles' is controversial in relation to Ireland, where there are objections to the use of the phrase and the government of Ireland discourages its use. Britain and Ireland' is a frequently used alternative name for the group."
It seems only Irish Americans take umbrage about it, probably because Americans themselves confuse 'England' or 'the United Kingdom' or 'Great Britain' with the 'British Isles'
In the British Isles themselves, where the current Irish, Scots, Welsh, Cornish and English live, we can tell the difference! :)
Me and my family are Welsh, Irish and Cornish... pure celt... I am British, but I'm not English...
Eire (Ireland is the English name)is part of the British Isles... Britons are the celts!
I agree that Britons are Celts, but from a political stance, the Irish are not British.
Maybe you're right and they don't take umbrage about it, but I'm sure they would prefer to be called Irish. Just like Canadians prefer to be called Canadian instead of American even though they live on the continent of North America.
That I can't fault sky7tree, I'd certainly rather be called Welsh than British, but 'British' is a lot better than being called English, as it's just a different nation... quite a nice nation, but not mine :)
Politically, all the Celtic nations have some kind of devolved government... Wales is likely to get an upgrade to a Scottish style parliament... a lot has changed in the last 10 years or so,
No we take offence with being called British - we're Irish!!! It's a different country, different culture, different lifestyle, different accents and theres a bloody ocean between us!!!
mccreed2, you're a Celt like me, we used to live in the entire of the British Isles (well apart from the Picts... where did they come from?)
In theory, the people who should be most offended by the term 'British' are the English, as they are not in anyway Celtic Britons from the British Isles.
When I've been to Ireland, the people are an open, friendly bunch, with a dark sense of humour... a lot like being home in Wales, just the accent's different and the Guinness is great :)
I totally understand. I'm american but I'd be offended if someone called me Canadian or something...and btw even though I'm American I could totally tell they guy in the movie was supposed to be Irish. The interviewer is dumb. LOL.
I totally understand. I too would be deeply offended if someone called me American "or something"...That would seem ignorant. Wait a minute - "or something" IS ignorant! That's nice. I'm proud to be a Canadian. (I know - you don't care)
I loved the whole movie especially how it ended. When August turned around and looked at Johnny and Kerry, he knew that they were his parents. I always believe that "LESS IS MORE". To end it the way they did was just awesome. It was a long journey for everyone involved (10 + yrs) and nothing had to be said at the end 'cause everything came to together. Hollywierd would have ended with the three crying, etc. 'cause they would want a sequel: "August Rush 2". There's no need for a sequel.
A mi si me gustó mucho la película, no era necesario que le dijeran que ellos eran sus padres puesto que quedó sobreentendido, el se guiaba por los sentimientos supongo que por eso no llevaron la película más allá.
mmm i'd have loved to have seen what happened after the concert to the 3 of them.,...amazing film though.i do like that you can kind of make up ytour own story as to what happened after it though
August Rush!!!!!!!!!! Gosh,i just bought this movie from hmv and i'm really hooked,i was sobbing, excited and all and i've been watching like 10x already since day 1 and that was 2 days ago, i got lots of goose bumps when he started playing the guitar(Highmore). I wish i was a music prodigy too,i only play the flute but i want to be versatile. I just love this story, its superb, fantastic, and everything!!!!
That's true; any musician would spot her faking right away, but you have to give her credit on how hard she worked anyway. I'm impressed that she was determined to learn the chords and notes properly instead of just barreling through it and faking horribly.
I agree with abooeboo. I mean, i play violin and in the very beggining i knew that she was faking it. But she was great, i dont know if she knew a note before that movie.
This is such a fantastic movie! WOW ! It is so original and the litle boy plays so well his role!
A very inspiring feel good movie. I love Kerri Russell and Freddie Highmore. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was great also. Robin Williams was great although I do not like him as a bad guy!
yeah critics are just so used to looking for stupid things like inner artistic quality and smart character development blah blah blah.. all that bull shit. but honestly, if the movie is able to move you inside, then that's all that matters.
but my mum is irish and also calls herself british because it really doesn´t matter because it´s the UK and Ireland and Great Britain are in this, but whatever you say...
this was an AMAZING movie! the acting was great, the characters were very diverse and perfect, and the music... there are no words to describe how amazing the music is. its absolutely breath taking.
Seen it earlier today. Loved every moment of it. My friends and I were literally shouting at the screen why JRM and Kerri Russel were standing in the crowd, we were all like, 'TURN AROUND!!!' Lol. Loved it <3 and Jrm... :P
Thank you. OMG, I had like no idea how I felt about the ending. Its 'Irish not English',

So saying British is legit, though Irish closer.

I think the ending was perfect.
August knew who his parents were when he turned around.
They knew he was theres.
You could just feel it.
If they had added more to that, it would of ruined it, in my opinion.
