@151tdawg first, do you have AutoCAD? you need to select Import from File and choose the CAD file you want to import. be sure the file type is ACAD Files like in 1:14.

i cant import dwg files to sketch up...im looking in the dropdown menu the "dwg" type but i couldnt find one...im using autocad 2007 and sketchup 8...can you pls help me sir
@chekeredheartfelt you have to download AND install the plugin. i think it's called dwg import. if you can't find it online you can msg me and i could e-mail it to you. i couldn't get it to work in sUP 8 though, i still use 7.
ok please tell me how to get floor plans cuz i used smart draw but it dont work cuz when i save a floor flan i cant put it in GSU (google sketch up) please tell me why and where to get floor plans like the ones in the video thanks XD
I have AutoCad 2006 and Sketchup 7.1 but when I download the Plugin for windows, for importing dwg/dwn files, Sketchup doesn't see the dwg/dwn files...
They removed the ability to import DWG files in free version. Google search Patch Sketchup DWG for the free patch. or download Sketchup 6! Without the ability to import CAD files Sketchup is not as easy to use!
Hi, I'm a beginner to this stuff but always been interested. I was wondering about the relationships of these two programs. I thought AutoCAD was also a program for 3D architectual design. Is there things you can do in Sketchup that you can't in AutoCAD. What are the differences between the two? Thanks
Sketchup is a very easy to learn and to use as a modelling tool. AutoCAD is far more complex, especially for rendering and is generally used for high-end 3D work, specifically in mechanical engineering. For architectural use, AutoCAD is very clumsy. AutoCAD is a very good 2D drafting programme and it's usually a good idea to complete your drafting in AutoCAD and then import into Sketchup for modelling. AutoCAD is also ridiculously expensive.
AutoCAD does have a 3D program. Actually it's very hard to draw 3D CAD. Sketch up is a very easy program to make easy drawings, and besides that it won't cost a lot.
If you want to draw 3D so you really have an offical drawing you might try AllPlan.
AllPlan and AutoCAD are very expensive. So if you are a beginner i would recommend drawing in SketchUp
When you import from Sketchup, try changing the setting "TYPE OF FILE" in the dropdown menu at the bottom of the import box, from "Sketchup files (*.skp)" to "ACAD files(*.dwg.*dxf)" and your .dwg file should then appear.
Adrian, to RESIZE ie rescale your model: take a measurement on any known feature. This may be a wall length or other element on plan, and which might measure 60 feet (or 60 metres), but should perhaps be 6 feet (or 6 metres) say. Using the tape measure, click at each end of the element, and then type in the dimension you want it to be, either smaller or larger. You will be asked 'do you want to resize the model?', answer yes, and the plan will be re-sized to the dimension you have entered.
I have the free version. I have imported a floorplan but can't seem to scale the plan. I use the tape measure tool but can't see where to adjust the dimension...Help please
You can try measuring one on-site using e.g. OrthoGraph, and then import the resulting DWG into SketchUp. It reads it in perfectly. You can start working from it very easily.
fantastic video, i tried making a sketchup model before watching this but struggled. this video addressed every single point i was having issues with. the second video in your series is just as good. many thanks!!!
When I import my .dwg file, the drawing isn't in 1:1 scale. Why does SketchUp doesn't respect my previous measures? And how can I fix this?

When you import CAD file into any existing sketching model; we call it "Component". It is crucial because "Component" is different from "Group".

@RomeBoarderr Kindly check this steps:
1. Ctrl+Shift+E to zoom all the model your imported
2. Make sure all layer is turn on
3. Certain computer graphic doesn't suit with sketchup 7, simply go to WINDOW, PREFERENCES, OPENGL, unselect the USE HARDWARE ACCELERATION
4. Make sure while importing check the options, either your drawing in metric or etc.
