Though Ultima Online was a few years before EQ and I played both.

UO in my opinion was fun but alas it also went the way of the care bears.

I used to love the early days of UO and the rep system.

I used to play this game years ago. I started around 2002 and quit around 2005

I came back to play the game this year for a month.. wow how much the game has changed and how badly it has fallen into a dumbed down twinky game. EQ 1 was great from 1999 to 2005 Way I heard it it really started going down hill around 2007

I think the game that started the MMORPG craze was Ultima Online. Everquest came afterwards. Yeah, it was way more successful, but Ultima Online was a big reason why Everquest existed in the first place.

@diLuca77 yeah, sony is the reason this game has failed today. everything verant did was incredibly EPIC as fuck, in contrast to how soe slowly killed the game with bad ideas, poor execution, and wacky concepts

He introduced Sony Online Entertainment as the creator of Everquest. SOE did not create Everquest, they bought Everquest out and caused it to roll downhill rapidly.
