  • Does the art remind anyone of Aeon Flux?

  • Thats quite a disturbing picture of his girl construction at the end..

  • もう20年以上前の作品なんですよね。

    当時観たときはホントに衝撃的でした。間違いなく名作の1つだと思います。

  • Grandpa got lost in the backyard and wandered around until he fell in a leaf pile. He... he couldn't get back up.

  • So the grandfather's some kind of Treize Kuschrenada butter monster?

  • I first saw Robot Carnival on tv years and years ago. I don't remember much about the movie but I never forgot some of the images and feelings from Presence. Thank you for putting the whole thing on YouTube.

  • Oh this is terrific thank you for posting this! I love the music at teh end when they disappear. BTW the subtitles are all wrong around 4:00; she doesn't say, "Boss Boss a storm came - WTF?!?" She said, Grandpa, Grandpa, you'll catch a cold.

  • maybe the same people who translated the menu at a vietnamese restaurant where i live. Idk wtf a fish on a pancake with sour cream is but i hope its a misprint ;/

  • Thanks!!! its been ages since I found this by accident, and I was as grateful for that, as I'm for this.

  • I always have thought that at the end he never rebuilds her, but that his love for her and her love for hime finally connect with his death. That is why he disappears at the end, and she is a sort of angel that comes to take him away to a better place, thus showing the angel toy of her at the end. Beautiful story though, best story in the movie.

  • yeahh... indid

  • the subtitling is terrible; translations are all off

  • Incidentally, go and check out the Chobits episodes linked to these. They're hilarious, but I think ultimately they end up in the same direction...from the droid's point of view (Ep. 4).

  • He destroys her because he doesnt want to admit his love for her and at the same time is ashamed and guilty of the what he has done in creating a child so to speak with emotions just like his, lonely, despair. he is ashamed that she is able to think beyond the barrier and see how they can help one another through love - yet like all good stories he learns the lesson and breaks free of the barriers that held him lonely, a prisoner by opening up to love - allowing her to love him.

  • Well said. Bravo.

  • Thank you!!

  • A true masterpiece.

  • Beautiful. Absolutely stunning.

  • sooooo cute in a dark erie way

  • The robot's body lying there forgotten in the shed resembles Mia Farrow at the end of "Full Circle: The Haunting of Julia" (1977).

  • is that movie any good? im recently a huge young mia farrow fan. i saw rosemarys baby, great gatsy, and secret ceremony with her and elisabeth taylor. she was so cute when she was young.

  • Yes, it's pretty good.

Farrow plays a mother whose daughter chokes to death after attempting to save her thru an emergency tracheotomy, and while recovering from her nervous breakdown, moves into a house haunted by the spirit of a bad seed child, whom she allows to do her in by slitting her throat, hence the robot's body.

  • The song that plays when he sees her falling apart doesnt seem to be on the soundtrack.. :/

  • i still have to order the soundtrack myself. good to know its not in it. do you have it? if you do what do you think of it.

  • I like it. It has most of the songs, but my favorite song is the soft-sounding Presence theme that plays when the robot it breaking down and when she says she wants to be with others. I don't know why it wasn't included but it fits really well with the emotion in the movie/

  • Throughout the whole movie he keeps rejecting her because she is a robot and isn't real and she keeps coming back and he finally gives in. After he finishes building her he doesn't even notice that he built her with the same exact lonely emotions that he has had for so long. He doesn't want to admit that she is everything he wants, doesn't want to admit that it's true love he is feeling so he destroys her just to make everything stop.

  • Wow. That is like the best explaination. I knew what was going on -- but you put it into words for me. Thanks. <333

And fifty cool points for uploading this!

  • Kinda wondering how this was meant to be implied (or if the writers wanted us to make up our own mind) did he repair her when he went back to the workshop or did she appear to him a second time regardless of that?

  • ¡Qué gran anime este Robot Carnival, que pese a los años, sigue con gran vigencia! La calidad se impone. Es eterna. Atemporal. Esto es el buen anime, de colección.

    De primera línea.

  • just wonderful thank u,the lttl toy looks like the robot

  • It's a wonderful episode... tnxs!!
