@wsigo the sound you hear is the turbo spooling up boost then you let off the throttle, the throttle body then closes. not allowing then bost to go in to the motor so it goes back in to the turbo and spins the turbo backwards. @ssilva1999 and he sold it a month later locally for 26500, in all honesty you dont take a diesel truck offroad that often unless your a kid or mentally handicapped, in my opinion this year model had the power and sound and even the fx4 model w/rancho shocks were great but when it came to towing it could haul our 13000lb boat, but the trailer brakes did not respond greatly, and the brakes, leafsprings and every thing else imaginiable screeched and shimmied on it tremendously

you dont need any of that, its the after market intake that makes that noise cause it sucks so much air from the turbo when you have the gas slammed then you let off and its just the blow back.. so no nothing bad
The early 03 6.0 yes. 04-07 there were good. I would still add. ARP head studs and differnt head gaskets. I tow alot with my truck. So there is Performance add on and ARP head studs and wire loc gaskets.

@60POWERSTROKE73 That noise is caused from air getting backed up into the intake as you let off the throttle quickly.... it's sucking air so fast that, when you let off quickly, it has no where to go, and it flutters like that... it's actually pretty bad for the turbo as it puts a bit of strain on it. i wouldn't suggest wanting to do it on purpose and i'm sure your 97 will do it with a good intake and exhaust setup, as it'll more a lot more air then.

i had a 07 powerstroke and it made that noice when you let off the gas fast. my local diesel performance shop said that its not good for it, if you let off the gas gradually it won't do that.
My god people are ignorant! I owned a 6 liter powerstroke. They do not have a blow off valve on a stock setup. They have a single variable vein turbo. The noise is normal on all super dutys equipped with the 6.0 liter PSD in a stock configuration.
Yes, the noise is the turbo baking back through through the intake. All that built up pressure has to go somewhere, when you let up off the accelerator quickly under load, the pressure goes out back through the intake. Mine did the same. NICE TRUCK!
