Edmonton does such a wonderful job with these ceremonies honoring the Oiler Greats!
So much is said about Kurri being in the shadow of Gretzky. That's a load of crap!
None of the other dynamic duo's of the league were scrutinized in such a way: Hull/Oates, Trottier/Bossy, Esposito/Orr, Lindros/LaClair, Jagr/Lemieux, Yzerman/Federov...the list goes on!
In fact, how many times throughout Gretzky's career was he paired up with someone that couldn't "Finnish" the job!

No, he is not the best European ever. When the Soviet Union still existed, they didn't let anyone leave the country, because they were afraid the travellers would tell about the misery of the Soviets. There was a chain back then, that kicked butt harder than Selänne & Kariya and Gretzky & Kurri combined. They were the best Europeans eevr, maybe the best of the whole world. Also, I respect Dominating Dominik Hasek more than Kurri.
Kimmo: That is total bs. According to Gretzky he would have never broken so many records without Kurri. After Gretzky was sold to La, Kurri still made over 100 points in Edmonton.
Wow, this brought back lots of memories of growing up on the prairies, watching the oilers play. Seeing Jari Kurri retire his number 17 is like watching an old warrior retire. The game of hockey will miss his great playing
who gives a fuck, does edmonton even matter?

Kurri and Gretzky is the best duo in hockey, ever. Probably Gretzky is the number one, but Kurri was his right hand.
karieero57 3 years ago 27
yes, Gretzky was obiviously the best in the world. But I believe all of us know that out of the Europeans, Kurri was THE ultimate player.
Superpizzabros 3 years ago 22
@Superpizzabros Somewhat true, but I would put Jagr ahead of him.

Dominik Hasek is nice though...

Kurri was gretzky's back-checker and defensive conscience.
The Wayner's over-rated (and I'm a Canadian saying this).
Orr #1
