@Didbuggyy The first book is Flowers In The Attic, but the series is called The Dollanganger series by V.C. Andrews. There are five books to the series:
I really enjoyed this movie. I didn't read the book and now I'm scared to for fear that it will ruin how much I like the movie based on the comments of those who have read the book and didn't like the movie. The scene that always gives me the chills is when the groundskeeper is burying Cory and the camera pans to the other 3 graves. With the music in the background it is such a chilling scene.
I hate the grandmother enough but I ABSOLUTELY HATE THAT STUPID TWISTED HORRIBLE MOTHER WHO CARES MORE ABOUT HERSELF THAN THE SAFETY AND HEALTH OF HER CHILDREN!!!
dam you you to hell mother if you don't take cory to a hospital right now! That bitch slap was worth it! You go girl!!!!!!!! Whooowhooo slap that mother fucking bitch. and the grandmother if just a fucking bitching sinner of god. locking kids in an attic and poisoning a little boy. fucking ass hole bitch! and the mother two!
that mother...just no. i hate her. she is twisted and horrible. how dare she poison her own children when it is a mother's job to protect her children?!
why would any mother want to kill her own children? money? that makes no sence? she is greedy!! she could have gotten a job after her husband died to support the kids and herself but she is a lazy bitch.
The grandmother's just as nutty as Corinne & helped kill her grandson. I wouldn't have stopped at two hits upside her head. I'd cut all HER hair off, & snatch those diamonds as payback. And she woulda told me where the rest of her jewelry was or else. ^_^
I love it when Cathy dresses up in the dress she had custom made to look like Corinnes and just walks in at foxworth hall and ruins the christmas party! I love the way she elegantly walks down the stairs ^^ But then Corinne kinda killed Bart (and her mom but that was a kinda good thing when you think about it) and Cathy's just miserable again... Poor Cathy!
Holy s**t , isn't the acting gruesome ! Especially the freaky lookin' little boy. The butler is the only credible actor .... helped by the non-speaking nature of his role ....Is this a comedy ?
The kids are definately the victims in this movie but the mother is also a victim. she was raised in that household and brainwashed by her mother. I have no pity for the grandmother, only for the children...and slight pity for the mother. The grandmother corrupted the mothers mind...why else do you think she had to run away with her own uncle? to escape from that messed up situation.
@clumpft Oh hell that is so typical, IF he had "taken his mom and the grandmother" as you said, then you'd be saying, "Hey he's a guy he's got no business hitting women, especially an old woman and his MOTHER!, what a coward!". I hate when people put all kinds of expectation on someone b/c of their sex. As far as that goes the teen girl could probably take the grandma. And some people just aren't fighters. It's a shame in 2011 we still force people into gender roles.
@clumpft And yeah I'm sure a teen guy could take on 3 people *rolls eyes* His mom, the grandma AND a grown man. You must think he's freakin superman or something.
YEA KILL THAT EVIL BITCH! In the book the children find out that their mum is poisoning them bit she says that she was trying to make them sick and sneak them out, the evil bitch
I can see the resemblance as to this based on a true story. The mother is full of greed and fortune and do what it takes to hide her children away - is how Virginia met the young doctor she devloped a crush on and he and his siblings got locked up because of greeds and fortune. Except Virginia redesigned the story in a different moral but excatly alike in so many ways that are hidden. Christopher wanted to study in medical school excatly like the young doctor at Virginia Uni Medical school.
The mother is trying to regain her parent's love again by doing what evils thing she can do as long as she is loved again. Yet she forget that her children needs her most especially when the dad died in a car accident. The grandmother is an evil woman yes but the mother is worse - she is heartless allowing her child to die...is just so wrong. She didn't have any love for her children at all. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree - so true.
there are 5 books in the Dollanganger Family series. I already finished the first 2 books and im shooting for the 3rd and 4th! Man, these books are pretty amazing (:
@SymphoniaFan101: Because they still are trying to defend the mother. They are starting to see that their mom is being as bitchy as her mother, but they think it's the grandmother's fault.
@SymphoniaFan101 The almighty dollar has a way of changing people!! Just like the song goes" For the love of money, who'll kill their own brother. for the love of money who rob their own mother. dont let money change you, almighty dollar" mother is willing to commit genocide on her own kids!! Ignorance to get rich..She killing her own children..GEEZ!!!
@cowbells4u And sadly it is not that rare, you see mothers killing their children all the time. And what's really sick is when they're little babies, the law doesn't care too much about it. It's like if a father killed the baby then yes execute him, but if a mother did it well let's not be too hard on her, it's not that big a deal. SICK.
@AngeliaClaire I am, but I was actually talking about when mothers kill their already born children. There have been quite a few stories in past months about mothers throwing their babies out of windows and strangling them with their underwear, and they get like maybe a year, or probation, what is that? Not only how do you put a price on a life but a price so low?
@AngeliaClaire I can't even figure out HOW such ideas occur to these women, these are your CHILDREN, you are supposed to protect them, and if you don't want them, give them to somebody who does because there are plenty of women in this country who want children and can't have them. And I'm sorry, I don't buy postpartum depression, I'm a woman, and I think with those women the only thing they're depressed about is they have to be mommies and be responsible now, like Casey Anthony.
This is so wrong. It is found out in book 2 that Corrine actually stuffed Cory in a closet when he died. Cathy smelled a dead odor as an adult. And john doesnt know the kids. And the grandma brings a basket of food not a dang wheelie thing.
@deareman My thought exactly. I said to myself, "Ooh, a sensible scene." Lol. This movie blows. I like the actors but I don't think of them as 12 and 14 and the script is just awful. I had high hopes, but whatever.
This movie really sucks (no offense). They atleast should have kept the moment where Cody starts to cry saying he doesn't have a mom anymore and Cathy responds she can be his mother before Cody asks her to put him in bed or something calling her mom.
So, is the Grandmother in on this whole plan to poison the children? Or is this the moment where we realise that, although she's a bitch, she's no murderer ... and that it's actually the mother who wants the children dead? I don't get it ...
@wickedexpert yeah i think its the turnaround point that corinne is actually the one that takes it too far. the grandmother was just planning to hide them away
i LOVE that grave scene though; wish that had been in the book (not that cathy would've known since it was in her POV)..in the series Cathy says later that she discovered a hidden room in the mansion that smelled like "something dead and rotting" which I really liked..showed the mother's evil! I too would rather watch a 5 hr movie that was completely loyal to the book!!!
I'll bet they never even took corey to the hospital. they probably just took him to another part of the house and waited until he died. They didn't give a rats ass about any of those kids. Bitches.
Wow, You can even see the Grandmother Is worried about Cory, Though she'd Never admit it, Its okay for her to do the things she does because she admits shes horrible but Corrine pretends shes a Fantastic mother when she is the Cause of The twins Deaths! She Poisend Poor Kori and She Caused Carrie to Kill Herself And the grandmother as awful as she is Jumped A Little when Corrine slapped Cathy
@bulletproof134 The butler, John, is related to the grandmother and is the one who made her so religious in the first place. I'm sure he was quite in on the planning. So yes, definately as twisted.
@bulletproof134 Honey, read Garden Of Shadows which is a Prequel to Flowers In The Attic. It is the Story narrarated by Olivia Foxworth aka The Grandmother who tells "her" side of the story 35 Years before FITA. When you read The Book, you'll understand why The Grandmother did what she did. You don't excuse her but you will sympathize with her.
Books are always better than the movie. Its redundant to keep repeating yourselves when this is a known fact. I've never read the book and this is one of the best movies I've ever seen, yet I'd like to read the book, but the movie angers me and makes me sad. I can only imagine how much more graphic and detail the book is.
I hate how the mother is expressionless when she tells the children she used to love that her son has died. one day (If this were a true story) That mother is going to be looking up at her children feeling sorry for her self while she burns. that's what she deserves
Wow, no one here surprisingly mentioned Chris beating the heck out of the grandmother at 8:22. I was expecting people would comment about that as well besides Corrine getting slapped by Cathy at the beginning of this video.
What are the name of the books,/,books? Just flowers in the attic or what?

Despite the Grandmother's dispicable nature, even she had some decency to see that her grandson was taken to the hospital.

@bulletproof134 cause locking the kids up was originally the butters idea according to the books. Besides John Amos needs to keep his job.

@bulletproof134 He's a relative of the grandmothers. If you read the books, all 5, you kind of get to know John better.
