WOW! I just happened upon this...and found Rodef Shalom! I LOVE this place. I used to attend when I lived in Pittsburgh (Mt. Washington) several years ago. Such a beautiful place and lovely congregation. And the music! This music gave me goose bumps. So glad this was posted.
@radam238 Check out on my videos "Hallel" and "Torah Service" - they have the newest renovations - we lowered the bimah - is now handicapped accessible and gorgeous Rowna
Thank you for these wonderful photos of such a beautiful and historic Temple, but don't you think something like Lewandowski or Sulzer might have been better suited as background music for this than a niggun? I am rather puzzled and troubled by the growing nostalgia for old-world music traditions in the Reform movement. We as a People certainly ought to respect such traditions and keep them alive through the ages, but I don't see their place in Reform Judaism.
@baroqueboy Thank you for viewing my video. You bring up a great point. I could choose of any music to set as a background. I chose a niggun.I have brought nigguns into the services of my Rodef. I get complaints but also get beautiful smiling faces. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Keeping nigguns OUT of reform movement is not something I would agree with. I have seen Reform Jews argue over how much Hebrew is appropriate in services - so there seems to be no agreement on everything.
@Herur22 I just removed, by accident, your last comment because I made a huge errorin my reply about when the new year starts . . . - the first of the year is the month of tishri - not elul - I am so focused on the beginning of elul because for me that is when we START to think about changing our music to the modes of our high holy days - and then we arrive in Tishri
Of all the photos, I like the ones of your synagogue the best. I'm something of a fan of architecture and of symbolic art, and your synagogue's architect did a brilliant job. I wish I had the money to come by and visit it.
@rakkav The singer is Rabbi Yair Kalev from Israel. Yes, the music is wordless - is called a niggun (pronounced by many jews as nigGUN or mor traditional jews say NIGgun). I meant to write a commentary in the description part but ran out of time as i made this past my bedtime. These wordless songs are part of the Jewish heritage, but as you can imagine, there are many "niggunim" that have words! thanks for your comments.

What is the title (and if possible the meaning) of the song? It seems almost wordless.
