  • It's true, it doesn't have to be a competition. But Maya is still the best.

  • What a beautiful, graceful talented woman! ... She is flawless! ...

  • OMG, the black swan variation was AMAZING!!!!! Maya is perfect. This perfomance is the best i ever seen

  • I have been at this performance - 1977. One of the last Maya's performances in the Swan Lake. She was 52.

  • How can people compare Ms Plisetskaya to Ms Alonso! Two very different dancers!!! Alonso strikes me as more of an Adiagio dancer. Maya is a virtuoso! At her early days, she jumped higher than men and had a kitri jump that still rivals dancers today. I've been videos of when Alonso danced Balanchine's mozart dance with the yellow tutus.... Pure adagio and beautiful! Ps Plisetkaya was how old here? And what year was this? Please don't compare to dancers today.... Different generation!

  • Que placer verlos bailar.

  • I like her but not her walk on the stage, she walks lke a duck and her poses are not very artistic and delicate . This was the first imprtession I got from her when I first saw her in Washington DC many moons ago. I see she did not do the 32 foutees on this video. Dissapointing! No a days I see their own interpretation and do not follow coreagrapy as it was intended.

I still think she was one of the best of the 20th century

  • I have my doubts concerning Maya's Black Swan better than Alonso.... Technically

Maya never was as the same level as Alonso's Odile. She was an actress in the

role of Odile; but I saw her many times finishing her codas a demie-pointe and her

turn out was not that great either. At the Bolshoi everybody knows she used to dance

with fake cous-du-pied (fake arches)...... Thanks!

  • I. Don't. Like. It. Just my opinion.

  • She lost weight here.

  • @113CXIII

check out @2:48 she does the same thing. but they continue clapping for another two minutes, so i guess she is doing something right!!

  • ALL prima ballerinas are amazing, each with their own unique qualities. I love Maya, Alicia, Margot, Galina...it doesn't need to be a competition.

  • Maya siempre ha sido una revolucionaroa y una aventada, pero eso si una diva del la danza, digna del bolshoi

  • I didn't see Alonso at her best, and Maya only in videos, but I can assure you Rosario Suarez "Charin"'s Swann's Lake and Death of the Swann are far better than Plisetskaya's and Alonso's combined!. Even Aurora Bosch can compete with them! Charin dances with every part of her body, while Maya and Alicia, only with some!

  • Плисецкой здесь 51 год!

  • @lanabella44 fonteyn is the queen ballet

  • RUBBISH! they're all good, my personal favorite is fonteyn though!

  • I have to say I like Alicia Alonso more. She was simply better that Maya. She was blind and she could still dance like a godess. Watch her videos and her portrayl of Odette/Odile. And Margot Fonteyn was just amazing!

  • Ballet is always so beautiful and elegant, whether it is Chreographed or not, Professional or amatuer :)

  • I love her so much! But why did she stand so pedestrian at 2:48 after her circle of piques? Was that common in the times. It seems like nowadays, no ballerina would ever be caught in such a position. But I still loved it.

  • @ballet81895

You just have realized about one of the very facts that distinguish the Cuban ballerina from her peers-(included the Russians AND the Americans...). One of the points that gets very emphasized in the Cuban training for the execution of pirouettes-(and piques, chainees, fouetees and so on)-is to finish on pointe-(in pose after fouetees or by arabesque after chainees). Most ballerinas around the world kind of "force" their stopping by "trabando" the final flat pose.

  • federicoxx. Why say this? You know that Maya is a great great dancer. Alicia Alonso is also as you say, a true ballerina. Both ladies are in the top tier. That's why they are both prima ballerina assolutas, and rightly so. Plisetskaya, Alonso, Ulanova and Fonteyn all possess that special magic.

  • I love this Odile choreography :) It's perfect. And she dances reeeeeally well :)

  • Come on!! Alicia Alonso was great but how can you compare her to Maya? Maya is and will always be the inspiration for all dancers to start dancing!! If you don't agree, you haven't watched her enough!!

  • her turns r really amazine..

  • I love how Maya was Odile throughout this whole clip... she is the ideal Odile whom she portrays effortlessly as a cruel seductress. She's just so amazing - I'm starting to understand why she was and still is respected as one of the greatest ballerinas.

  • Absolutely!!

  • she had so many standing ovations
