I see it as the commoditization of stuff that people will watch as opposed to democratization of culture - crap is still crap and now there is more crap for people who are not as concerned with culture to ingest as entertainment, self-medication, diversion, boredom relief, whatever....on the other hand, putting fil making tools in the hands of more creative thinkers should result in some great visual art that might not have seen the light of day
Not only digital arts but for all art mediums. If you are to read the "true" history of the past you will learn that in the times similar to those we live in are the times were artist rose from the dust to fame. Right now truly is the time to rise up especially in these times of revolts. but if you are to lazy then the times will change again and those who wait for to long will be left to try to re change what those already did.
@retroIight u still have fundamentally failed to answer my question. im asking what THEY the people featured in the film are trying to say or what side they support. u fuckin suck at explaining shit and im probably older than you
@Cre8iveStudios Why's this so confusing? It's clearly talking about the modern digital age in which any person can be a known celebrity nationwide just based on a short home video they make of themselves. It's probably going to talk about the music scene as well, and how the record labels are being cut out of the game.
is this another one of those group masturbation about how great digital culture is? well, digital culture gave us Rebecca Black so fuck no. not everyone can be a writer, artist or musician and no, not everything the human race make is interesting. most of it is trash and shit. digital or no.
@kornino that's true, which is why there is never any true merit in putting any form of media on a goddamn self-jerk pedestal. back when they made TV and radio, it was the best goddamn thing on earth, and it went to shit tonnes of crap for decades, guess what's the best goddamn thing on earth now.
also, we're now in the age of parading our incompetence and hailing it as individuality, who's to judge what's what.
@kornino the internet gives us the pretense that each of us is so goddamn special. we have our profiles, our emails, our blogs, our websites, ultimately, none of it means anything. we revert back to the idiotic popularity contest of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and this time, instead of having some half-wit biz-dick telling you what's good and what's not, every goddamn one of us has a say. has digital culture push forward the way we assert our culture? no. in fact, it has punched us backwards.
just watched this documentary over the weekend in Singapore (Design Film Festival). wat a well put together piece. thoroughly enjoyed the content and the message.
Saw it tonight on swedish TV. Amazing, especially if you're one of these "wanna-be-artist" people. Makes you think about life again, makes you cry somehow.
When will the predictions of the digital future STOP!!! I have been listening to this promise of the digital future for twenty fuckin years now...JUST FUCKIN STOP IT...
Just because you graduated from college last year doesnt make the digital age one fuckin year old...
Christ I am sick of everyone chiming in on the FUTURE...there is no god damn future. You are living in it from the predictions 15 years ago and only some of it came true..but in ways no one expected...
On that note while Seth Godin does in fact offer a lot a great deal of good advice in his books for sale and talks, he is often again placed as some sort of demi-god of the 'get-your-shit-together-and-just-make-stuff' attitude. Bottom line is thats not so easy for everyone.
I'm still going to see the film and will be very curious to see what some of respected views are but I have a feeling its going to be very one sided (as most modern 'docs' seem to be these days.
I think a lot of creatives live in a bubble of what their outer world view really is. All around us there is poverty, class separation and a lack of education that is continuing to grow at an alarming rate. With less time and energy to focus on free time education a large percentage of people are barely scrapping by.
Ughhhh the irony is that in my opinion the discussion that is going to take place in the film (as far as one can predict based off of the trailer and press kit) is already being discussed to death right now.
Its totally naive to think that ANYONE can become an artist can create content that people can consume. The reality is that just because 2 hip middle-class white kids who came out of advertising make a documentary that doesn't mean that everyone can afford the time and resources to do so.
@DemSlackers We start with the premiere at South by South West in Austin, TX, March 11th. Stay tuned for updates on future distribution on our site . Thanks!
My audio-visual collaboration with Alex Gardenberg and Ola Syste is featured here (pink bubbly stuff :) Would love to connect with other artists featured in the documentary. Looks like a great film!
