  • Trailer says...worth download......

  • This is a unique masterpiece... all and everything about it is a piece of art... it will talk right to your heart, and conquer you before you realize why your tears start rolling down your face... more and more, tears of redemption and relief... There is nothing you will not adore about this film... actually i think no other film has ever talked so intensively about all and each one of us... when you see it, you' ll see what i mean, i promise......

  • @philipposathina i agree 100% 8)

  • This film blew me away. I adore it :-)

  • nice mouvie, it´s a must !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TokyoMewMewCherry i agree 100%!!!!!

  • Most amazing film I'ver ever seen. Period

  • cried 4 times in 2 hours . in half year i dont cry 4 times...

  • 4 people dislike this video is evil

  • a little manipulative i thought, but i still loved it ^__^

  • Joe Hisaishi is the composer of this movie. He also created the music to Spirited Away and other Studio Ghibli films. This is why the music is so emotionally powerful in this film :).

  • This movie, represent how the Japanese treat their love ones...This time, i think only few of them are still doing this kind of preservation...

Anyway this film is one of my most favorite....

  • One of the greatest movies I've ever seen period. And I even had the honor of shaking the director's hand.

  • I can't recall seing a film that touched me more than this one. I watched it with a beautiful girl who was 2000 miles away in another state. Its a good thing, because she wasn't able to see me cry lol

  • The power of this movie is the music. It's very wonderful theme song! :)

  • Absolutely, stunningly beautiful

  • Amazing.... to be honest i only watched it cause it was made in japan-i stayed up untill 1 in the morning just to see how it ends it was amazing

  • When this film ended, I felt like giving the screen a standing ovation. Just beautiful, touching, poignant, human, heart-warming.

  • its on tonight, excited

  • @Broskybrosk Haha, I just watched it :3

  • @IamNikkzScreams did you cry? i seriously went from laughing to crying to laughing to crying, it was ridiculous

  • @Broskybrosk Yeah, I did! ; A ;

    I actually cried twice.

    I laughed too though xD

This movie was by far the best I've seen :3

  • Just finished watching this beautiful masterpiece! Even the soundtrack is just as wonderful as the movie. It truly deserved an Oscar!

  • I will watch this for free on Eiga Sai 2011 this July 2.. so excited :)

  • @mikachu0929 The lines in Eiga sai in Shang Ri La was long for the two screening, it was the only anticipated film in the filmfest...was not able to enter, I'm searching to just watch it online...

  • @artriff11 was able to download it through isohunt. You should too. well worth "the trouble".

  • i love it. NYOMI

  • It is a masterpiece. I have a lot to cry during the movie, it is very moving!!

The music is very beauty !!

  • That film was like a rollercoaster. Brilliant.

  • Does anyone know the piece that the orchestra was playing at the beginning?

  • @Ilionabebe Beethoven's 9th !_!

  • @MackoDarlack Thank you so much for your kind response. I must buy a CD with that! :)

  • @Ilionabebe xDDD sorry, it's a must-know xD and me being fan of Beethoven...u.u xD try to find a version by Karajan (Y)

  • @MackoDarlack Thank you for the recommendation! :)

  • oh my god comments are so positive i must give it a try :D

  • One of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. Seriously..

  • I wanna watch it! Where do i watch it?

  • @Chibigu007 download it in ARES...it´s beautiful....really beatiful

  • very great movie. make people think of death and the real meaning of death.

  • This is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. I adore it!

  • one of the greatest,,imaginative, most sensitively rendered motion pictures I've ever seen. what some deadhead hollywood jackass pollute it by making an american version of it.

  • Maybe I'm super anal for saying this but...it kind of bothers me that they show the father's face unblurred in this trailer, seeing as that's such a fundamental scene in the ending of the movie. It's like, visual spoiler alert.

  • @ChroniclesofDreams if you've never seen the movie. How would you know it's his farther's face. You are making a comment based on having seen the movie.

  • Cinema perfected....in my opinion!

  • beautiful film, I think everyone should see this,I mean everyone in the world, it makes one think profoundly about what is important in life, and set aside all things trivial that we get so caught up in, we live such a short time, we should live and love far better than we usually do

  • an excellent film. thats all i have to say.

  • amazingly beautiful movie...it indeed made me cry! :')

  • this was one of the most profound movies I've ever seen. About the life in death, and the death in life.

  • Even the trailer makes me cry. Goddamn.

  • This is full of emotion. The script is typical, acting is typical. I mean it doesn't have the cheesy dramatic lines or the excessive crying. But the movie has successfully let me cry buckets. Ahhhhhh.

  • I cried 4 times in the movie. everytime when he did the ceremonie, it was so emotional

  • Tears of happiness, mourning, laughter, hope, daily life experience as never filmed before...

  • Death is just the beginning ^^

  • A Poem... never seen a more beautiful and sweet movie.

  • just a masterpiece !

  • i'm such a movie fanatic... i love discovering films like these... i never met someone who's such a movie fanatic than me.... I haven't seen the film yet but reading all these somments for sure i'll watch it soon... for anyone who have twitter share your thoughts about your fave movies with me.. follow me @pinkhippome.

  • Just watched it on Netflix. Beautiful movie!!!

  • el mejor film que no se veia desde hace tiempo muy buena pelicula

    the best

  • Loved it.

  • I never cry. But i cried when i saw this movie.

  • How come every single Asian movie I watch has such a powerful soundtrack? Tokyo Sonata, Oldboy, House of Flying Daggers, Marathon.. I could go on and on and on and there's never a soundtrack that doesn't suit the story. I dare to say that Asian cinema is gradually taking over the leading role in World cinema from the US.

  • I laughed, and I cried, and I laughed, and I cried, and I laughed, and I cried...

  • @reydawg27 I cried, and I cried harder, and I cried, and I cried much harder...

  • @reydawg27 i agree to that, it was an awesome movie, very touching

  • I watched this and through this, I realized every job is meaningful in its own way. We should not judge people based on their jobs. Nokanji made the departed to another journey dignified, and beautiful.

This movie deserves the award, very well done.

  • could there be a worse trailer to this film?

  • @Latlast

    No

  • I LOVEEE this movie! I cried like 15 times during the whole time!

only thing is I HATE the way this american Trailer made it!! It makes it seem like its a Happy I got a werid job and now im gonna throw up on the body! haha.

.. damn amercian and thier happy enddings.

this film was BEATUIFUL and it talked about the values of life and the beauty of death itself. that was the main key of the movie

  • We watched this movie in my Japanese class, for some reason, i have fallen in love with every Japanese movie he has shown us. Like "Always", "Shall we dance", "My neighbor Totoro,". He even has the movie Godzilla vs King Kong

  • One of the best films I have ever seen. I can't get over just how absolutely wonderful it was.

  • I cried too. Love it!

  • I cryed pretty much every 10 minutes of this movie..

    Simply Briliant

  • Just too powerful !

    I watched it 3 times !

    I love the music !

  • I loved this movie since my first sight on one private TV station in Indonesia,,so touching,,so Japanese

  • I am a movie geek, this is THE MOST beautiful movie I have ever experienced. Simply GORGEOUS

  • btw before u watch the movie u need to know the history...

in japan they have the different class as in hindu..(brahma and etc but in japan samurai and etc)

and the job that the guy doing is only for lowest class people...and no one will do that kind of job, that is why his friends dont even want to speak with him anymore when he knew his friend doing this job,and his wife wanted to leave him...

hahaha too long to explain..find it on google...

  • @li3gibson

In Japan, we do not have "class" like in India, everyone treatd same....and no more samuri in Japan too. Anyways, job like this is just a normal job. Reason why his friends and wife do not like is that Digo have to deal with dead body.

  • and i heard that story from my japanese friends and my friends working in japanese as well...even in japanese some of department store written ETHA clan is prohibited in this area/ not allowed to get in to the department store...

sorry if i got wrong information hahaha as im not japanese...XD

  • @tokyocityrat if not wrong it calls ETA/ETHA clan, sometime they calls it BURAKUMIN clan.

    search is on wikipedia

and i heard that story from my japanese friends and my friends working in japanese as well...even in japanese some of department store written ETHA clan is prohibited in this area/ not allowed to get in to the department store...

sorry if i got information hahaha as im not japanese...XD

  • @li3gibson Eta/Hinin means "no human" these social classes actually created Shogunage during edo period to boost out or off set farmers stress under heavy taxation. Today, there are no such class exist and no social barrier exist but I admit there are some old generation people in very specific places have some wrong feeling toward these people. And department store thing is totally wrong information.

  • I have never cried during a movie. Everything from "Terms of Endearment" to "Saving Private Ryan" didn't even put a lump in my throat and some tear-jerkers are so formulaic that you know what's going to happen 5 minutes into it so it becomes boring and predictable. But this movie moved the hell out of me. I had to wipe my eyes repeatedly towards the end. Never been moved by a film that way before.

  • @Kirke182 same for me. :)

  • This trailer doesn't do justice to the movie, obscuring the more tender and thoughtful moments in it. Departures is a story about a man who learns to prepare the dead for burial and in the process learns to over come his own deep disdain for his long out of his life father. In Departures the director is never heavy handed, using an almost documentary form to tell a story of loss, longing and regret.

  • this movie is a masterpiece of sensibility and delicacy. Impossible to get indifferent to it

  • PRIMOROSAMENTE, ENCANTADOR!!! VERDADEIRA POESIA FEITA EM IMAGENS!!!

  • "She has a thing"

  • nihongooooooooooooooo

    lo maximooooooooooooo

    OKURIBITO

  • nihongooooooooooooooo

    lo maximooooooooooooo

  • wait a minute, its international movie (japan), and from "here!" production? is that for american gay movie production?

btw his wife is cute :)

  • @newflava89AGAIN Gee, I wouldn't know. Is it?

  • Moving film!

  • This is one of the best movies I've ever seen... and I've seen my fear share... Simply Great! A must see!!!

  • I cried for this film, every good film.

  • I havent seen the film yet, but it must be just extrodinary from what i heard. Only the fact, that it has beaten my favourite movie "Waltz with Bashir" at the 2008 Oscars, makes me looking forward to watching it.

  • I want DVD of Yojiro Takita's "The Yen Family (1988)".

My VHS was worn out. Please put DVD on the market.

    ---Japanese---

    滝田洋二郎の「木村家の人びと(1988年)」のDVDが欲しい。

    僕のVHSは擦り切れました。DVDを発売してくれ!

  • Good movie overall, but I did not like the ending.

  • The trailer does not do any justice to this magnificent film.

  • One of the best films I ever watched ever.

  • Oustanding movie. Japanese culture is so fascinating....

  • Amazing.

Me encanto esta movie.... rei, reflexione, llore....

    Super recomendable.

  • I cried at the end

  • @Maginoodley8

    Buy the film soundtrack

  • WHATS THE NAME OF THE SONG STARTING AT 00:49???????? I LOOOVE IT BUT I CANT FIGURE OUT WHAT ITS CALLED!!!!! UGHHHH

  • @Maginoodley8 It's the main theme from the movie composed by Joe Hisaishi.

  • @Maginoodley8 : the song is Memory, composed by Joe Hisaishi. Okuribito OST - Memory

  • 0:16 looks like the singer of Number Girl/Zazen Boys to the left of the main character.

  • This truly is a wonderful movie... I just got it on dvd the other day, and let's just say that I didn't have it for even 5 minutes before it went into the dvd-player! I love love love it!

  • I've just received my DVD today! Can not wait to sit down and watch with the wife later tonight with a tub of Haagen Dazs!

  • I loved all the actors... what a touching story... the letters... I instinctively gave them when I was young, as well as shell and flower letters. I'm adding this to my all-time favorites.

  • @RoseyinWonderland If you were moved by this one, see Nobody Knows or Grave of the Fireflies (animated). I challenge anyone to watch one of these films dry-eyed. I'm glad to see that more people are watching great Japanese movies.

  • this trailer also spoiled daigo's father face. one of the best scene in the movie

  • Daigo looks like a Japanese Lou Diamond Phillips.

  • I loved this movie... very touching!

  • Even if you absolutely hate wating movies with subtitles, WATCH THIS MOVIE! It is worth it. It is now available on Netflix On Demand. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

  • Sublime!

  • i tried my best not to cry.....but when it came to the last part of the film, when Daigo discovered a stone in his father's palm, he now realized that his father always remembered him until the death. Daigo then, prepared his father's body with ultimate care and love....at the moment his tears went down, i could feel my own tears running down my cheeks....

  • @kgdangar2 i totally agree but way to ruin the end for anyone else who hasnt seen this before lol

  • @HindsiteTV

Ooooppsss...sorry if i'm being the spoiler.

but this film is brilliant anyway^^

  • I just watch this movie, and it has become an instant favorite! It was moving, and the actor who played Daigo Kobayashi did an excellent job!!!! I laughed, cried to my heart

's content. It made my morning watching this movie.

  • dis is those kind of movies which you will remember for a long time after u watch . it really touched my heart .

  • very nice music....very touching film....

  • very moving piece of art

    "No, we bury people alive."
