so you make the output Stack/return with ur traynor amp and tweak the global EQ and use the Line/phones for recordings and through home speakers only right ?
if im right would you plz share ur global eq settings through the Traynor...and is that a Flat mic ?
hey buddy for your whole solo thing around 4:45, can you possibly send me a list of songs with that style soloing? and rythym guitar. i love playing stuff like that it help lots thnks
@patdel92 Best thing you can do if you want to learn that style is go out and buy Queensryche Operation Mindcrime if you don't already have it. It's full of stuff like that.
I have a fender hotrod deluxe with a celestion v-30 and i love de clean tone.
I use mi audio pedals in front of it and it's realy nice.
But I need a delay and chorus and a boost etc.
I also have a gt-10 for recording and using with a keyboardamp.
But I like this video. I wish I could get real analoge sounds with the gt-10 in the front of the fender. But I'm messing around with tone suck. How to solve with that?
When I bypass the gt-10 it's not the same. Output level?? Tips?
@emmathijs I am only using the GT-10 stomps and effects. I have my GT-10 set in output mode Stack/Return. If you haven't already i would suggest you load my AMP ONLY GT-10 sounds into your GT-10 and try them out. My AMP ONLY patches were designed to use in front of an amp. I made a tutorial video on how to load my patches into your Gt-10 in case you need help with that. You can download my patches from my blog.

@pakblueman Yes Mike, Stack/Return into the front of the amp. I usually set my GT-10 volume at about 10 or 11 o'clock. You will have to set that setting yourself because I have a ver very loud amp so I can't turn the GT-10 up too loud. Right now I am using a Dr. Z MAZ 30 SR 2x12 with a 2x12 extension cabinet. and the GT-10 as well.
Hello Glen. First question. How does the YCS50 compare to the YCV50(blue) in tone. I have that amp and a Fender Blues Deville and Deluxe. I thought the YCV50 was to edgy and brittle compared to the other two amps. (and not a lively) Next, do you like the Boss GT 10 or the Digitech GSP 1101 for adding to a live rig to keep your amp tone. Your thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
@chshamus3xw I have never tried the YCV50 so I can't really say but the YSC50 sounds very smooth. As far as the GT-10 or Digitech I would have to go with the GT-10. The thing is to keep your amp tone you must only use the FX in these things, not the amp models. They are great for chorus, flanger, phaser, delay, reverb, etc..and some descent stomp box models as well.
Well I got myself a GT-10 (thanks largely to your inspirational vids!) I have a question though..... How do you EQ your Traynor? everything right in the middle? And when you make a patch, do you design them at gigging volume? or bedroom volume...
Hey again I just purchased the ycs50 and have begun to use it with the Boss gt10 and your patches but for some reason all of the sound coming out of the amp sounds as if it is coming from behind a wall or from another room over. Unfortunatley he cleans are also still pretty dirty and rough. I'm sure its just a user error but any ideas on how to remedy the situation?

@extremevideopro I should have mentioned i'm in the market for an all tube amp. I currently have a vox ad30vt which can produce a lot of tones, but it's not a tube amp as you know. thanks for the suggestion though
@rocketmanab yeah thats what im looking to spend. I was gonna get a YCV50 blue for around $400 but that fell through. How is the distortion on the YC40?
@cbappa1 I'd say its good for hard rock, Blues, etc. I wouldnt try to do Metallica or anything with it. But thats what pedals are for I guess...I'm running the GT-10 into mine
@extremevideopro I got one on rent right now and they want $915 for it used (canadian). What made you want to make a video for this amp do you work for traynor? Great demos by the way
Awesome! Thank you so much for the quick and very helpful reply you blew me away with such a prompt response! I can't wait to try this combo out! I have checked out your site and patch download area and i really love the easy to follow layout, is there any way to know which of your patches were created especially for the ycs50? And your guitar you created the patches for have passive pickups right, I heard passive and active pickups can react very differently to the same patch. Thanks again!
@Soccerspike1 Yes, if you watch my tutorial the patches are separated into two parts. The first patches starting at bank1 are the ones for the amp. Yes all of my guitars have passive pick-ups except my EPS but I didn't use that for creating my tones. I used my PRS and Ibanez Jem mostly.
Hey Glenn thank you so much for both your music and your immensely helpful YouTube videos. I am looking to try and achieve your beautiful lead tone and I can not decide between the two amps you have demoed for us, the Traynor YCS50 and the K4. I am just using the amp, gt 10 combo for my own entertainment at home so I am not micing or using a PA but I did not know which of these two amps would be a better fit for me given my situation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!
@Soccerspike1 Hey bro, the GT-10 and the Traynor YCS50 make a very very good match. After I did this video I actually got better tones from the amp. I have the GT-10 patches for download that were created specifically for the Traynor YCS50. I would highly recommend it.

hey glenn, my guitar's sustain has gone far down hill. there is almost no sustain on my higher frets anymore. Its an old Washburn WI64. got any advice?
wow thanks alot!!!...its funny because i have that ac/dc shirt that says the name of the song and did not even kno...same on me hahah..any way thanks man!!...hey another thing i was thinking about a POD x3 live for Christmas..would it be a good investment?..i kno it sound kick donkey but u kno all the settings
Dude, c'mon, That's AC/DC "For Those About To Rock". You should go right away and buy AC/DC "Back & Black" and "For Those About To Rock" Both are Classics
Thanks for the making this Video...loved the "Waiting for 22" improv you did! btw...trying to find a vendor near me in colorado...would you recommend any online dealer selling Traynor? BTW, the sustain sounds awesome with this amp.
So when the text "Plexi Rhythm" comes on screen, that's just the name you've given the tone? Not the Plexi pre-amp from the GT-10? Still just the Traynor?
Yes, these are my custom patches. None of these are using any of the GT-10 preamps, only the GT-10 OD stomps. Think of it this way: What you are hearing is the Traynor amp with a Tube Screamer pedal in front of it, the Tube Screamer pedal is inside of the GT-10.
OHHH a variax? I'm gonna buy one! what do you think about it? Its a good guitar? Please make a video with your variax and your pod x3 live!!! please!?!?! thanks glen!
Only multi-track layering on the AC/DC intro part. I used 4 mono tracks for that with the same amp & mic. The rest of the sounds are all single mono track right from the mic into my recording software. you can actually see the track on my monitor screens at the end of the video at 9:19
Forgot ask ... what output setting is your GT on ??
I wish tube amps were a little cheaper. I would love to buy one and try it out, but if I am not happy I don't want to be stuck with a high cost amp that I have to try to re-sell
I read your other message that you removed. Yes the GT-10 output mode is set to Line/Phones but I have no speaker simulation on. All of the Amp simms & speaker simms are turned off.
lovin' the playing, lovin' the knowledge, always a pleasure to watch you do your stuff. also love the queensryche feel to that first improv with the clean arpeggios in the background, definitely hear the waiting for 22 in there. keep 'em coming man!
Great video as all your videos are. I have this amp and love it. I also have the X3L and am having trouble getting the nice amp tone to come through while trying to bypass the sims in the X3. Any thoughts? Thanks.
You mentioned the master volume... the harmonics are are talking about are a result of the overdriven tubes, correct? Not a result of feedback from the guitar as a result of the high volume? Just making sure I understand what you're describing.
Yes absolutely, feedback from the amp tubes. Actually I can get it to feedback at much lower volumes. That also has alot to do with the pick-ups in that guitar. Those are Dimarzio Breeds.
I really don't like one more than the other. The X3 has some patches in it that I think are better than the GT-10. For example I use the X3 to record bass and acoustic all the time. The GT-10 not so good for that. Boss does make a GT-10B for bass though.
Well, first off, I've tried the 4CM with this amp. It does not sound as good as going into the front. That said, the difference or "benefits" would be that in the 4CM the modulation & reverb effects could be place after the amplifiers pre-amp section therefore theoretically giving you a cleaner mod , reverb & delay effect. I think it sounds pretty good though the way I am running it now as you can hear from the video.
Glenn, at the end you do a clean Flange sound on "Hear About It Later". How did you achieve that? Any other effects used...Delay, etc? That sound is dead on!
I have been firmly in the POD X3 camp for several years, having owned it since the week it was released... but as of late, I am leaning more & more toward the GT-10. Not that one has to choose one or the other, I'm just saying...
Hey they are both great units. I think both of them are geared toward folks that do alot of direct recording. For that they are great. When using a real amplifier however it's harder to get a good sound (no matter which unit you use) but it is possible as you can see from this video and my X3 demo videos where I use an amp.
Great video Glenn! Are these tones available in your download pack? By the way, I used your Vai Vai tone for my latest video - "Christmas Time Is Here". Thanks for making those available.
Glenn forgive me for being a bit slow here but for the 'plexi' example here are you playing through the o/d channel on the Traynor and 'modulating' using a OD stomp on the GT 10?
Hey, that's a good question!! For the Plexi patch I am using the GT-10 Blues OD stomp and the amp is set to the clean channel. Then I change to amp channel 2 which has more drive.
I think it's actually better and I 'll tell you why. The stomps in the GT-10 have way more parameters to control and the GT-10 has about 20 stomp pedal models to choose from. Now granted I think only about 5 or 6 of them sound good but when you combine the EQ and all of the other controls in the GT-10 they sound quite good with an amp.
It's really the amp here that sounds good. Keep in mind that I am only using the GT-10 for the OD stomps and effects. No amp modeling or cab simms. The Traynor amplifier is providing that.
It's well, 'cause i will record through my M-audio audiophile 192 (at current time i have marshall mg15cdr combo and haven't good microphone at all...so, choice is obvious)))
And another question - how do you think, what better way to record: through USB or through analog stereo wire input (there is no delay)?
Excellent, Excellent Demo!!!! Superb playing, a real pleasure to watch!!!

Thanks for helping. I will download the patches for using with an amp.
Do you mean the bundle on the right? For using in live situation?
And your output setting is: stack / return, even when using in front of the amp?
And how do you set the output knob on the gt-10 (12 o'clock?) I mean for a true bypass sound when I will have only my amp sound without tone suck.
Thanks, Mike

@extremevideopro Hey Glenn..any insight on where I can find one? Perhaps online?
jef1rok 2 years ago
I'll try to get an answer for you directly from Traynor. If you don't hear from my by next Tuesday give me a shout..
extremevideopro 2 years ago
So when the text "Plexi Rhythm" comes on screen, that's just the name you've given the tone? Not the Plexi pre-amp from the GT-10? Still just the Traynor?
Sorry for being confused, loved the video :)
Zhukov101 2 years ago
Yes, these are my custom patches. None of these are using any of the GT-10 preamps, only the GT-10 OD stomps. Think of it this way: What you are hearing is the Traynor amp with a Tube Screamer pedal in front of it, the Tube Screamer pedal is inside of the GT-10.

OHHH a variax? I'm gonna buy one! what do you think about it? Its a good guitar? Please make a video with your variax and your pod x3 live!!! please!?!?! thanks glen!
youshit666 2 years ago
Awsome!!!
BOSS GT10 or POD x3 LIVE? BOSS IS BETTER?
youshit666 2 years ago
in my opinion pod x3 live
marcoattarko91 2 years ago
I've got the POD X3 Pro rack and to be honest it sounds better, but the GT10 has a thicker lower end, unless you tweak the X3 properly.
It's sort of expected you hook up a low-end heavy AMP I guess.
PHeMoX 2 years ago
I had both and kept my GT .. returned my X3
MikeyGee001 2 years ago
LAST question ... in the recording on this vid is is obvious the guitar has Stereo Separation but you are running out in MONO ...
I assume multi-track layering ??
MikeyGee001 2 years ago
Only multi-track layering on the AC/DC intro part. I used 4 mono tracks for that with the same amp & mic. The rest of the sounds are all single mono track right from the mic into my recording software. you can actually see the track on my monitor screens at the end of the video at 9:19
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Forgot ask ... what output setting is your GT on ??
I wish tube amps were a little cheaper. I would love to buy one and try it out, but if I am not happy I don't want to be stuck with a high cost amp that I have to try to re-sell
MikeyGee001 2 years ago
My GT-10 is set to Line/Phones output mode. That gives me the fullest tone.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Hmmm ... interesting.
I would have thought it would have been something else. Just goes to show that you need to try ALL outputs and see what sounds best.
Thanks for the info
MikeyGee001 2 years ago
I read your other message that you removed. Yes the GT-10 output mode is set to Line/Phones but I have no speaker simulation on. All of the Amp simms & speaker simms are turned off.

OUTSTANDING TONE
Another great video

Another great video Glen. Thanks for a look into the studio. Great sounds, too, I love both your JEM and the PRS.
MeltedProphet71 2 years ago
lovin' the playing, lovin' the knowledge, always a pleasure to watch you do your stuff. also love the queensryche feel to that first improv with the clean arpeggios in the background, definitely hear the waiting for 22 in there. keep 'em coming man!
goatgoesbahhhhhh 2 years ago
Thanks, Yes that's where I got that riff from. It's not exactly like it but yes it is from Mindcrime.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Nice to see your studio! Thanks
I have a Yamaha TX-802...like a DX7ii in a rack unit,and also a Yamaha KX-88 Master Keyboard.Remember those? hehe
MusicMan20061210 2 years ago
Thank you, I hadn't tried that one yet. Your work here has been so helpful.
sdchbdog 2 years ago
Whats your AC/DC setting here Glenn? It sounds pretty convincing.
ste528 2 years ago
It's just the Blues OD stomp from the GT-10 and a little EQ. Nothing else.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Great video as all your videos are. I have this amp and love it. I also have the X3L and am having trouble getting the nice amp tone to come through while trying to bypass the sims in the X3. Any thoughts? Thanks.
sdchbdog 2 years ago
You might try the 4 Cable Method. I have a description on my blog.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
are u using the preamp of the gt10? or using the gt10 just for the effects and clean plus overdrive from the amp?
gasb72 2 years ago
Using the GT-10 for FX & stomps only! No GT-10 preamps at all!!
extremevideopro 2 years ago
dude man, you're awesome i wish i could play half as good as u
anyday82 2 years ago
You mentioned the master volume... the harmonics are are talking about are a result of the overdriven tubes, correct? Not a result of feedback from the guitar as a result of the high volume? Just making sure I understand what you're describing.
MeltedProphet71 2 years ago
Yes absolutely, feedback from the amp tubes. Actually I can get it to feedback at much lower volumes. That also has alot to do with the pick-ups in that guitar. Those are Dimarzio Breeds.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
i miss patches for the x3 //_- lol but good tone :) did u sell the x3 ?
elsepulcro 2 years ago
Nope, still got my POD 2.0, XT-Live and X3-Live. I never sell anything.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
What song is that first song in this video? Great playing and great tone. :) . Always like your videos.

extremevideopro 2 years ago
do you like the GT-10 more than the pod X3?
patdel92 2 years ago
I really don't like one more than the other. The X3 has some patches in it that I think are better than the GT-10. For example I use the X3 to record bass and acoustic all the time. The GT-10 not so good for that. Boss does make a GT-10B for bass though.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Glenn what benefits would you get by using the 4 cable method instead of this connection?
ste528 2 years ago
Well, first off, I've tried the 4CM with this amp. It does not sound as good as going into the front. That said, the difference or "benefits" would be that in the 4CM the modulation & reverb effects could be place after the amplifiers pre-amp section therefore theoretically giving you a cleaner mod , reverb & delay effect. I think it sounds pretty good though the way I am running it now as you can hear from the video.

great tones, great guitar and great studio too. you have all the toys to rock on and on !!!!!!

Glenn! you should check out my little vids! specially the 2 new ones. I would really feel honored if you left a comment or something :D

What's that second song you played? That was beautiful, very nicely done!
garydupuis 2 years ago
Well the slow chords or somewhat of a Queesryche song but not exactly. Just noodling around really.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Well, it sounds beautiful nevertheless! Bravo!
garydupuis 2 years ago
nice studio :D
moiguitarrock 2 years ago
Glenn, at the end you do a clean Flange sound on "Hear About It Later". How did you achieve that? Any other effects used...Delay, etc? That sound is dead on!
I love that!
cooley23 2 years ago
yeah, it's just a little compression and a flanger. The amp is set on the clean channel. That's it!!
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Even more impressive than your rig is your playing.. Really a big fan of all your videos, keep em coming dude!
alexismmef 2 years ago
I have been firmly in the POD X3 camp for several years, having owned it since the week it was released... but as of late, I am leaning more & more toward the GT-10. Not that one has to choose one or the other, I'm just saying...
tony93666 2 years ago
Hey they are both great units. I think both of them are geared toward folks that do alot of direct recording. For that they are great. When using a real amplifier however it's harder to get a good sound (no matter which unit you use) but it is possible as you can see from this video and my X3 demo videos where I use an amp.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Great video Glenn! Are these tones available in your download pack? By the way, I used your Vai Vai tone for my latest video - "Christmas Time Is Here". Thanks for making those available.
cingram72 2 years ago
They will be available soon.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Glenn forgive me for being a bit slow here but for the 'plexi' example here are you playing through the o/d channel on the Traynor and 'modulating' using a OD stomp on the GT 10?
ste528 2 years ago
Hey, that's a good question!! For the Plexi patch I am using the GT-10 Blues OD stomp and the amp is set to the clean channel. Then I change to amp channel 2 which has more drive.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
hmm..
GT-10 is good for a multi-effects...
but it won't be as good as stompbox man..
EndlessMagic 2 years ago
I think it's actually better and I 'll tell you why. The stomps in the GT-10 have way more parameters to control and the GT-10 has about 20 stomp pedal models to choose from. Now granted I think only about 5 or 6 of them sound good but when you combine the EQ and all of the other controls in the GT-10 they sound quite good with an amp.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Now i really know that BOSS GT-10 is a good choice) And i will get it next week xD
Thx to you and your good demos!
7thsonofa7son 2 years ago
It's really the amp here that sounds good. Keep in mind that I am only using the GT-10 for the OD stomps and effects. No amp modeling or cab simms. The Traynor amplifier is providing that.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Yes, of course! But i think, that the boss amp-modelling is not bad, too)))
Traynor's sound is really taaaaaaasty =)
7thsonofa7son 2 years ago
Oh yes the Boss modeling is great and i use it all the time for direct recording.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
It's well, 'cause i will record through my M-audio audiophile 192 (at current time i have marshall mg15cdr combo and haven't good microphone at all...so, choice is obvious)))
And another question - how do you think, what better way to record: through USB or through analog stereo wire input (there is no delay)?
7thsonofa7son 2 years ago
When I'm recording direct I just use the analog stereo input. It's quicker, easier and alot less trouble. I guess I'm lazy LOL
extremevideopro 2 years ago
So, if there are not any troubles - why not? xD
7thsonofa7son 2 years ago
Exactly!!
extremevideopro 2 years ago
love the blues lead and clean flange (i'm a sucker for modulations)
Really nice tones (and of course, nice playing ;) ) !
slicer789 2 years ago
Thanks guys. :)
extremevideopro 2 years ago
simply the best!!!
psofoss 2 years ago
Are you making a loop on the board?
Because if you do that, how do you get it to start so fast off again. Its like, when I record to it, it stops up for 1 sec and its all out of rythm
guitarmaster123456 2 years ago
You have to time it right. Keep trying, you'll get it.
