Just briefly read through the Wikipedia entry on this film. Found it odd that the meaning of the ritual didn't seem to be addressed much at all in the entire entry. The ritual jumped out at me as being very enigmatic, and a very important part of the film. It seems obvious to me that Kubrick is conveying a message here. I applaud your reading of the film, its clear that the xmas tree is a recurring symbol and under/end the rainbow is a clearing recurring theme. The costume shop scene in the film is very very uncanny. Its is all very surreal and has a distinct dream like quality. Its very ambiguous and this scene and the whole narrative has the ethereal quality of an actual rainbow (which is of course an illusion of nature), I don't buy the Illuminati theory but you do illustrate how complex this film is.

Just briefly read through the Wikipedia entry on this film. Found it odd that the meaning of the ritual didn't seem to be addressed much at all in the entire entry. The ritual jumped out at me as being very enigmatic, and a very important part of the film. It seems obvious to me that Kubrick is conveying a message here. In one scene, Zeigler says that if Bill knew the names of the people at the ritual, he wouldn't be able to sleep so easily. An expose of the private life of world public figures?

I applaud your reading of the film, its clear that the xmas tree is a recurring symbol and under/end the rainbow is a clearing recurring theme. The costume shop scene in the film is very very uncanny. Its is all very surreal and has a distinct dream like quality. Its very ambiguous and this scene and the whole narrative has the ethereal quality of an actual rainbow (which is of course an illusion of nature), I don't buy the Illuminati theory but you do illustrate how complex this film is.

As to the day of December 25th, that was the Roman holiday of Sol Ivictus, Yule for the Celts and Anglo-Saxon Germanic tribes and they did use a decorated tree brought into their houses for the celebration. Kubrick didn't reveal a top secret or anything new. How come they didnt kill Tom Cruise & the rest of the cast for "daring" to participate in such a "revealing film"? Why only Kubrick? It makes no sense to believe he was killed beacuse of this movie...Illuminati (assuming they exist) are just a political group that focuses on putting friends and allies at high places so they can continue milking the cow... that's called "political group strategy 101"... He know too much about some things associated with "illuminati" and had public and secret connections with NASA. Masons try to keep their image clean and don't want for example these orgy things to come to public. And Kubrick was known to have feared kidnappers (or assassins) for quite long time. I don't believe he moved to England just because of paranoia.

There is no debate on whether or not Krubrikc used these symbols deliberately; anyone who knows anything about Krubrikc, and for that matter theater, will know that every prop is significant.
So the Christmas Tree, lights, the wardrobe colors/or with animal print, stuffed animals all have significances with fertility and the Winter Solstice.
The movie is about secret societies and how everyday people live to feed into their games. For example, we think we are celebrating Christ's Birthday,

Wasn't Kubrick kind of retired for a number of years and then decided to make this film. didn't he die before it was even released theatrically? This is what I've heard. I know he was old but not that old. Old people are kind of easy to assassinate. "Oh, he was 70 and had a heart attack" is a real easy way to make sure no one questions it. I'm not saying he was assassinated. Just seems like a lot of people who try to show this subject to a large audience wind up dying. Just food for thought.

Scorsese is a great student of KUBRICK and film as a tool to awaken consciousness that the title SHUTter I (EYE) sland could easily be homage to the master.

@ssallen1s This movie was set during Christmas. It's mentioned many times thru out the film. Like in the scene where Alice asks Bill if he wants to wrap the presents now? He answers let's wait until tomorrow. There is a scene which shows Alice and her daughter wrapping gifts at a table...in another scene Dr. Bill asks his patient (little boy) if he is ready for Xmas...look closely at the eye chart in that particular scene. It ends with Alice and Bill taking their lil girl Christmas shopping. :)

The Christmas Trees with colored lights(in almost everyroom/apartment) may represent the "last bulb on the christmas tree" illuminati ritual sacrifice thats happens around Christmas time in December which invovles kids and etc and it ties into what this video is talking about.
