  • Here is another bloke that has worn this album out - and is still wearing it out.

  • anyone who had this album wore it out...i still got it

  • All the modern shredders don't get this feel do they. Fantastic phrasing & tone. I wore my vinyl copy of this out !

  • @pobinr got to be one of the best live albums ever i put it in the top ten

  • @pobinr johnny winter was one of a few who could switch from blues to rock great player

  • I never heard there was an unedited version of these recordings! I will hunt it down till the day I die. If I uncover it I'll either post it or try my best to get a copy to you petricpl. I hope you'll do the same for me. We have our work cut out for us. The quest begins! Thanks for the info on the unedited version of my favorite Winter live recording. I may be able to get through to Derringer and see if he has it or knows where to find it. Thanks!

  • Somewhere someone must have a copy of the unedited version of this concert, I only heard it once in my life from a friend of Rick Derringer. The jams are all 20 - 30 minutes long, Mean Town Blues is unbelievable. About 30 minutes of non-stop bass pedal. I hope to hear that recording again someday.

  • ...fall on my knees, raise up my right hand....going try to do better, better .. you know i'm a doing the best i can.....my fault baby treat me the way yo want to.

  • I saw Johnny last year, doing a show in a pasture up in the North Georgia mountains.......Un-Fuckin' believable !!!!! LOUD as Hell !!! And this tune is about the rawest and meanest hardcore blues in the world !

  • one of the coolest tuens in history !

  • where the fuck is super like button

  • it is impossible. that is correct. it literally is impossible to play that well. mr. winter seems to have transvered the simple orbit of our planets. You cannot play that well... it is impossible. ask eric, ask keith... they are not my rules.

  • while it'strue that partof this album was recorded at Pirates World .The Fillmore East was in New York.

  • @bobilly1492 fuck you asshole. who cares? who fucking cares............? who fucking cares?

  • I was at this concert. It was at Pirates World in Dania, Florida circa 1971. I did not know at the time it was AKA "Bill Graham's Fillmore East" but I don't believe it was that name always. The concert area was adjacent to an amusement park. Strange that the LP cover they used was a pic. NOT taken at Pirates World! The LP credits state "Cover photo taken at Howard Stein's Capital Theatre". Inside liner notes also state "Johnny B. Goode" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash" mixed at Criteria Studios-MiamiB

  • I want to be buried with this album along with Captured Live!!!!!! This song starts off at 5 MPH and ends at Nascar speeds!!!!

  • Is that Derringer on the second solo?

  • @Staggerbaroque yes that is Derringer on the second solo. I saw them play Oct 30 1970 at the Electric Factory in Philly and was so blown away I went to the second show the next night. I was unfamiliar with Winter prior to that concert. I wore this album out.

  • @denparrish Rapid! Thanks for the info. I saw Johnny do Jumpin Jack Flash in 75 at a stadium concert in Pittsburgh. Derrigner not there, but he and second guitarist burned the place down with their double leads on the song. Great version of "Highway 61," too.

  • Best slow blues ever been played and sung , king of the blues Johnny Winter at his best .

  • remains my favorite JW tune since buying progressive blues experiment album...a good long time ago...and seeing JW live in Newport, jammin with BB...will never be forgotten...ahhh the days

  • One of the best blues tunes ever done by two white boys. (Winter, Derringer)

  • john dawson winter.. that's all i'm saying.

  • still as pleasing to listen to after 40 years as when the album came out. 'shout outs' to my ma for all the times she heard me jamming along with this as i worked thru each phrase and never once said 'turn that sh1t down'!

  • @SammSquamch Man, 40 years already... Bought the album after great reviews came out here in France back in 78... What a shock it was! Unsurpassed guitar I'd say!

  • I bought this album soooo long ago. I lent it to someone and never saw it again. Thanks for posting this.

  • Out of all of JW'S albums I always thought this one was one of his finest. These guys were young, hot, on top of their game and had a whole bunch of ducks, all of them in a row!!!

  • Better than sex...well at least lately..lol JDW is to the Blues what Earnhardt was to nascar!!

  • Second best 'LIVE ' album ever recorded . The interplay between Johnny & Rick was top notch . I was introduced to Johnny by this album . I played it till the grooves wore out . Second only to 'Band of Gypsys ' by Hendrix . I've always thought of live albums as being inferior to the original recordings and a cheap way for bands to make money . The two recordings I've mentioned are in my humble opinion exceptions to the rule . Johnny never got the recognition he deserved .

  • @bobilly1492 Hendrix in the West, released posthumously was, I think, better, but not from one concert ( but then again neither was Johnny Winter And.) In MOHO Hendrix in the West, Get yer yah yah's and JWA are unsurpassed.

  • this cat is the real deal...he was stevie before there was a stevie, no offense to stevie

  • The BADDEST albino on the planet! Hands Down!!

  • There are four slow blues songs that IMO are the best recordings in the genre. Jimi's "Red House", Zep's "Since I've Been Loving You", SRV's "Tin Pan Alley" ('live' radio version from "In The Beginning..."), and this. Simply awesome!

  • @musicaldun1 - so in agreement

  • @musicaldun1 - and adding Allman Brothers' "Stormy Monday" (Live @ Fillmore East)

  • @musicaldun1 "Sittin On Top of the World" Cream Wheels of Fire live makes the list for me. Was fortunate to see Clapton with Cream Nov 3 68, and Jimi May 16 69 (he did a great Red House). At Laurel Pop Fest July 69 saw Winter, Page with Zep, Beck with Rod Stewart, Alvin Lee, Frank Zappa, Buddy Guy. Tickets were $20 total for two nights for box seats. Fans tore down the fences and went to the stage, and burned the seats the night it was rainy and chilly. Johnny Winter tore it up.

  • @guitar1067 Great googly mooglies! What a show! Sure ain't gonna argue about adding that Cream song to the list! Since typing that post I've come up with a couple more myself...The Allman Brothers Band "Not My Cross To Bear" and The James Gang's "You're Gonne Need Me" (live).

  • Jesus FIng Christ if that doesn't cut to your soul your already dead NONE BETTER EVER NONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Best blues song ever recorded HAnds down ! I saw him play this live in 73 at a small club is Asbury NJ from about 20 ft away with Derringer Ill never forget it My ears were almost bleeding but it was worth it. Changed the way i played for the rest of my life ( still cant play it :) But have stolen lots of sweet licks from it He was simply AMAZING in his prime No one could play like him and i saw almost all of them except SRV & Hendrix

  • This is great - Makes me wanna practice again

  • the GREAT!!!! John D. Winter

  • I recall listening to this and thinking, can anyone transpose that for me please

  • How does he do it? Unreal!

  • it was never this good again.
